You REALLY think that FOUR USB-C/TB3 Ports with 40 Gbps bandwidth are a "Compromise"?!?

Do you have ANY idea exactly how many "traditional" I/O ports you can make out of that much I/O bandwidth???

You just don't get it.
So you think it is perfectly fine to spend so much money on the laptop and then spend more to buy adapters to get basic functionality? Plus the inconvenience of carrying the adapter wherever you go... And you think other people don't get it? What a joke..

Exactly what was expected. Nothing more. Nothing less. I mean, it's a nice laptop and all, but still...
I remember Tim Cook saying people like surprises.

About the RAM... let's keep in mind that RAM is becoming less and less important than it used to be. RAM is not doubling sooner as it used to be. Reason? SSD. The new MacBook Pro is capable of reading and writing at least blazing fast 2GB per second. RAM was created as a response to the limitations of HHD and now with SSD being extremely fast with access and transfer, the importance of RAM is much less emphasized than ever. It makes no sense to keep expanding RAM storage if the performance is not as significant as it used to be. 16GB is likley the provide the most bang for the buck and more than that, it just doesn't give you much added value.

Do not expect RAM to keep doubling quickly anymore. With upcoming 3DXPoint technology, the storage will be just as fast as RAM and they may reduce the RAM footprint as well.

Tell that to some of the photoshop files I open... I mean we are talking about a "PRO" computer right?

In the online Apple Store you can't adjust the SSD Capacity on the 13" with Touchbar...only 256gb is available. You CAN change the capacity on the lower end model without Touchbar, AND on the 15" model. Weird?

Really on the fence here on replacing my 15" 2012 rMBP w/ the new one. Same amount of RAM , but more importantly same amount of storage. I know and accept Apple charges premium prices over the retail cost of components but sheesh 256 for $2k+ 2016/7 machine is bordering on the absurd.

Now, one thing that is still a big deal is the non-user-replaceable battery. We tend to keep computers a lot longer than phones, so not having a replaceable battery will be a huge pain eventually.

No, the new batteries can last you 5 years without losing too much of its juice, totally different from the batteries 10 years ago.

almost 6 years on and still only 16GB of RAM. their courage is really showing.

I use FCPX Professionally. And 16GB is causing this very app in its knees every day all day. I literally have to reboot my Mac 10 times per day, JUST because of this problem. The reboot-concept comes from the Mac Support Hotline. They are aware of the problem... That is why I was quite baffled by them using FCPx to show-off the 2016 MBP. And Adobe too... Right there on stage praising the new touchbar... But behind the scenes, advising folks to use at least 32GB of ram and thus encouraging folks to NOT buy such a product. Its all BS

Does the headphone jack in the new MBP's still include the optical S/PDIF output? Or is it just analogue now?

You clearly don't understand (or don't want to understand) the "Gorilla Arm" syndrome. It is caused by reaching out toward a display that is a couple of FEET in front of you (like a desktop monitor) for extended periods of time. The Tool Bar on the new MacBook Pros is on the same PLANE as the keyboard, and so does not require the "Reach out" sort of action with your arm suspended in the air.

Actually I do and I won't use a touch monitor. Instead I am using a surface pro 3 at work. No gorilla arm. So, if you are going to get a gorilla arm there, you will get one with the touchbar on top of your keyboard next to your screen. Try it for yourself with your function keys. You cannot rest your palm on the normal keys...

So, apple could just have made the screen a touch screen instead of adding the limited touch bar.

???????????????????????????????????????????
80% of mac users use their computer for going to websites like facebook etc and email...none these changes will affect that use one bit.
Yeah, that is why there was entry level Macs and Pro Macs. What Apple farted out today should have been called MacBook Air 2. What we saw today is not a Pro machine.

That is the nature of being a publically traded company. You gotta keep those margins high if you're going to keep your stock prices afloat. If you can't expand forever (you can't), you have to eat your children. The golden age of Apple is long gone. These machines still work great, but each iteration is slightly less satisfying than the last. I will be very, very surprised if most "pro" Mac users are still on a Mac in ten years.

I think they'll lose a lot of the video / motion graphics industry with this iteration. People who don't need the power will still hang around for a long while.

I've been eyeballing Windows convertibles for years now. So have my two future-creative-pro teens.

Yesterday, Microsoft's anouncement of the Surface Studio was strike one.

Then we saw that their dial-tool will be compatible with other Win machines. That was strike two.

This announcement today is strike three.

I'm SICK AND TIRED of Apple removing what I love from their machines, and not giving us something BETTER, while sealing up their machines and jacking their prices ever skyward.

If I can't (or in this case, won't) buy an MBP, then there is no reason for me to stay in the Apple ecosystem at ALL.

The Surface Studio, while pricy as well, would cater to the majority of my family. It really is an iMac killer.

Congratulations Apple: your latest, "greatest" laptop ever made just had a reverse halo effect.

I'm definitely going through the 5 stages of grief here, but I am now also excited to learn and test out all the new hardware and software possibilities that exist outside the Apple garden.

And so, I now must question why I use a Mac. Why not give others a shot now? I chose Apple 15 years ago out of frustration with MS, and because both the hardware aesthetics and software were far beyond ANYTHING else.

But just like with iOS, once I tried Android, I realized that there is NO going back (for me).

It took courage for me to let go of iOS and try something else.

Perhaps it's time to let go of Apple entirely and see what happens.

I guess the last thing Apple will remove from their devices, in this case, will be me.
