I was thinking the same but I think once you get used to it it will be much better.
Instead of diving through menus now, I just have to look down.

How so?
Tell me how you use your open MBP so you can see/use the Touch Bar AND use that nifty 5k monitor? MBP off to the side? Monitor off to the side? OR clamshell and pass on the Touch Bar?

Touch Bar seems like it makes things harder. Why do I need to take my eyes of the screen to crop a photo?

I guess Apple is so desperate to make it look like they have something new and just came up with a gimmick.

Let me get this straight. To use your iPhone with your new MacBook Pro, you have to buy a USB-C to Lightning cable for $35? Apple didn't include that?

Also: RIP, MagSafe. You saved my MBP more times than I can count.

Apple charges $200 more for the bump from 256 to 512, which is fairly reasonable. From 256 to 1 TB is $600. That's also fairly reasonable. Yes, it's expensive but if you really need to store a lot of data, buy an external drive or use cloud storage.

I am a psychologist so it does tell me something. ;-)

Oh, so you live in the Green Zone.

I didn't believe all the naysayers through all these events this year, then I watched this one.

There is literally no reason for anyone to upgrade to this thing unless you like shiny new toys or Apple's 5000th version of "Space Gray".

I'm also not happy Apple is sticking with ATI. OpenCL support in the apps I use is generally lacking or behind CUDA. Windows drivers (for when I'm in Bootcamp) suck and haven't been updated in months. The ATI cards are the worst part of my Mac Pro.

Neither nvidia nor AMD offer official or unofficial drivers in Bootcamp. They're all written (or at least adapted) by Apple for Bootcamp and they rarely compare to the real thing - i.e. authentic drivers on a supported PC setup. Which is why Bootcamp is a fine shunt, but it is not a PC replacement.

Also if you didn't get the memo, Apple does not support CUDA. Only OpenCL is supported by Apple and it's not Apple's fault nvidia can't make a decent OpenCL GPU. You seem to be quite the fanboi, why haven't you sent the Mothership complaints about their lackluster OpenCL support?

Basically in this department Nvidia sucks rocks compared to AMD, the parallel computing power of AMD GPUs is a magnitude over Nvidia. Kinda lackluster in games, but they put Nvidia to shame when it comes to compute.

edit: referring to AMD as ATI, what does that even mean?

Can anyone explain the difference between Radion Pro 455, 450 and 460? I have no clue and can't even find it on their website! Im looking at maybe getting the 460... are these graphics top of the line? outdated ....???

http://www.nasdaq.com/press-release...hics-processors-20161027-01262#/ixzz4OJrVvDaX

It's very much new and it is top-of-the-line actually professional series GPUs (as one never knows with Apple what they consider "pro")

The Radeon Pro line is a rebranding of their Fire Pro line, and equivalent of Nvidia Quattro GPUs. These GPUs are *not* made for gaming.

I should be able to it the pause buttom without cycling through various Touch Bar screens.

Of all the things to ditch, MagSafe...that is just crazy.

But they kept the Audio Jack?

What are these people thinking? I use the Audio Jack on my iPhone almost every day. On my laptop, pretty much never.

I guess I am one of the crazy ones...but not crazy like that.

I do not see the justification for a base model price increase.

Everything from China is going up.

Of course, there will be no cost of living increases for Americans. Harpers magazine did an article about six years back that revealed the corrupt US government inflation figures that if not so rigged would have Social Security checks going out that were three times larger than they are now.

Retina touch bar, well if the mighty mouse wanted competition for worst new feature it has it. This idea is just horrid. I never ever look at my keyboard. Never. What a usability joke.
And of course, your needs/habits are everyone's needs/habits.

I for one think it's pretty damned cool. In fact, me and my non-retina 2013 MBP are pretty jealous.

I guess it's kind of petty but I just made an account to have my say.

And that say is that my next laptop will not be a Mac.

The Apple we knew and loved is gone.

An emoji bar at the expense of being able to plug LITERALLY ANYTHING in to a 'pro' machine that starts at $1500.

Laughable.

I know nobody cares, least of all Apple, but my next laptop is now going to be a PC. And that's just sad, because they've forced me and so many others into this. None of us wanted it.

I'm very disapointed in the new Macs.
I consider myself to be a power user as I develop complex web-based solutions (big databases, numbers chrunching, UX, front and back-end etc.). I run Windows in parallel(s) and I constantly switch between the OS's as part of my daily routine.
I am the happy owner of a mid-2014 RMBP base model which I now appreciate even more.
I went for a laptop as I sometimes work from home, in the weekends or at strange hours and it's complicated to sync all the data.
So now that I described my profile, here are my complaints:
1. 8-10 hours/day (at the office) I use my laptop in clamshell mode hooked up to an external 4K monitor which also acts as a docking station for keyboard, 2nd backup drives etc. While the new touchbar looks cool (to me it seemed laggy and slow-responsive in the live demos) it cannot justify a price increase and definitely will not improve my productivity
2. I have a high-speed SD card of 256GB all the time in the slot. I keep on it all the non-essential, rare-access files. New model: gone!
3. MagSafe!!! At least 3-4 times it saved me from desaster, that's once every 6 months!!!!
4. USB and I am thinking ordinary Sticks. Guess what? My customers use them all the time, I use them all the time (ex: charging my iPhone or iPad with the "right" voltage, as I always confuse the power adaptors)
5. Saved the best for last: PRICE. I always cattered Apple as a company who is providing new hardware every year for the same price (due to tech advancements and price decreases, it's a fair business model). Seems they took some really bad strategic decisions as no power user will improve its productivity not even by 10% due to the touchbar. I know I won't and I am sure 99% also won't. It caters to a user profile which is actually the opposite of the "Pro": messaging, cool, trendy - yes, a pro can do all that but guess what? I'm busy working.
6. I should also mention the lack of RAM upgrade option, the only one which cannot be substituted by external SSDs.

Overall: very disapointed in the new Macs. More money for gimmicks and less options/compatibility "as it is"

Many, me included, feel the same.
Many posts do survive one way or another regarding the way Apple is heading without Jobs.

It's simple, IMHO:
Apple, after Steve, tries to push on with the products and vision Steve introduced, but cannot innovate.

No innovation (apart from a few gimmicks) are introduced after the death of Steve.

All new Apple products are evolutionary, not revolutionary. Newer iPhones are faster and have more features. Newer iPads are faster and have more features. Newer Macs are faster and have more features... etc. etc.
But they still are the same products.

Tim steers Apple into new markets: i.e. new countries. Trying to expand sales by creating new areas of distribution. It's the best thing Tim can do.

He is not a visionary. He knows that. He is not a product guy. He knows that. Tim does what he thinks he can do best for Apple:
Invest in countries and governments make deals, invest in partnerships (IBM, Cisco).

I have endless respect for the capabilities of Tim Cook as the COO. Not as the CEO I'm afraid.

But... who can... actually lead Apple?

The legacy Steve left behind is just too difficult to follow up.
And... TBO.... I think it's the way Steve wanted it. He is sorely missed....

Let Apple buy Tesla ... then put Elon Musk as CEO of Apple .... let the innovation begin !

I'm just looking at the Apple website and this OLED bar is so f'n stupid. In the Photos App you select the picture you want from thumbnails in the bar. But the same thumbnails are on the screen. So to use this p.o.s. you have to stop looking at the screen, find the thumbnail on the bar, then look back at the screen. It's so pointless!!! The mouse or trackpad did this simply, effectively, efficient and at a fraction of the cost - it's classic Apple, just adding expensive shiny pretty junk for the sake of it. Next Macbook Pro is going to have laser machined cup holders with drink detector pad and OLED Retina Validation OLED - "COFFEE'

We are totaly f* in Germany. Non-TouchBar starts at 1.699 Euro!
And then we still need probably different adapters etc. makes another 150-200.
Even for Students the price still pretty high starts from around 1.495 Euro.
I checked the best maschine from the page and endet up with maximum confirguration at 5.000 Euro!
I think I will buy Thinkpad or Dell XPS and add a really nice 25-27" display to work at home on pics and videos.
I think, I'm done with this company. The price just kill it.

There's something extremely beautiful and focusing about having just the art fill the entire screen and keeping all the controls somewhere else.

I couldn't agree with you more. The displays on laptops with touch screen are cluttered with those controls and your hands cover large parts of the screen when clicking.

The coming iMacs will of course be delivered with Touch Bar keyboards.
