People that honestly throught Apple would stick a lightning port onto a laptop make me chuckle. Five bucks says the iPhone 8 comes with a USB-C port.

You are probably right. Talk about a mess though. They use lightning for their airpods, charge remotes, and for sounds, but not sound on laptops.

Some please take Tim outside and lock him out of Apple headquarters!

They made us wait this long for last years Skylake CPU and are still using their antiquated retina display. Come on Apple where is Kaby Lake and 4K? I know Kaby Lake isn't available yet in the 4 core models. They could have stuck an i7-7500u in the 13 inch.

Also we're still stuck at 16GB RAM. I was hoping for 32GB. 16GB is not enough for heavy usage.

On the upside they are probably using the Samsung SM961.

I should have bought when I was about...

About 1.5 years ago, the base 15" MBP was CAD $1999 here in Canada.

Then it went up to $2499 for the same machine due to the dollar.

Now it's $2999 for the base 15" MBP.

rip

16GB Ram is woeful in this day and age.

Apple has never been about value for money. If that was the case, they had clearly lost their way.

I disagree, Apple has always been about value for money. They were never cheap but that's not the same thing. Their higher cost was always justified, as you got what you paid for. I'm no longer convinced that's the case, the price increase over last years model is huge and it's questionable, at least to me (and apparently others), if the extra you get for that increase is worth it.

I don't know if I'm gonna order the 15 inch or not, my god it can cost up to $4299 without tax...
I think the top processor is Core i7-6920HQ...

2TB SSD is good but for that price point, we should get more...(TouchBar is nice add on, but not enough to make this decision)

I really don't know what to do!

I think I'm finally done with Apple. I'm not happy with everything Surface Studio offers (for that price I'd expect SSD-only and current gen graphics), but at least it's truly innovative and something really for pro users. Apple has completely abandoned pro/desktop users. Pathetic.

I'm with you on this one, the prices are exorbitant. I might update a year later to a used one.
Apple products have always been priced in the luxury range, but this is above and beyond what I expected.

The crazy thing about Final Cut Pro X integration is ... this laptop has almost none of the things I'd NEED as a video editor. HDMI, an SD card slot, an easy way to connect external storage ... FCPX is a VIDEO editor, you don't need that software unless you have a high-end camera to capture stuff like a DSLR, stuff like an SD card slot in particular are par for the course with stuff like that, but this computer removes that in favor of 2-4 glorified adapter ports?

WHAT were they THINKING with this!?
They were thinking that, as a VIDEO EDITOR, you'd appreciate having FOUR, 40 Gbps, IDENTICAL, MULTIFUNCTION Ports that can EASILY be turned into every single thing you want and much, much more. In fact, the amount of I/O that this thing is TRULY capable of is nothing short of ASTOUNDING.

And you can get an HDMI adapter for around $15 on Amazon. And SD card reader (with MANY more slots than you would EVER put in a laptop) for around $7!!! FFS, THINK!

This is the biggest reason why lightning headphones are a bust. NOT even apple is committed to lightning earpods!

Personally, I love my Bose wireless headphones, but think the omission of a lightning dock a HUGE fail in my opinion. It's like Apple want's to promote USB-C headphones. You are right, you will have to carry around two freaking headphones or another dongle. But to be honest, you better have a bunch of dongles for the next couple of years if you buy a new macbook pro.

But the whole audio port product misalignment is WHY I HATE Tim. This fool has no attention to detail. Do you know the real reason he doesn't present products? Because he doesn't even bother to know about them. He is too busy promoting some social cause.

Cool laptop though, but you are right, audio is a fail!

More like Apple is promoting 3.5mm headphones with the adapter to use one pair with multiple Apple devices, since they didn't have the courage to remove the antiquated headphone jack from the MBP.

Are there any USB-C headphone options currently available?

They certainly aren't pushing the W1 chip, since there's only one expensive Beats over-the-ear headphone currently available, and it ships with a micro-USB to USB-A cable which is compatible with neither the iPhone nor the new MBP.

So is the performance increase. Plus you get the touch bar, touch ID, larger track pad, and Apple's new custom secure enclave chip.

The function keys are stil available, USB-A is old and is being replaced by USB-C apple is just going to be the driving force behind that migration, and I think Apple hasn't used the standard m.2 connector for a few years now. The 2015 rMBP uses a custom NVME connector that puts sata3 to shame.
No tactile feedback for the bar. I don't need to look at my keyboard for physcial keys.
USB-C might be the future, but I haven't seen a single USB-C to Serial adapter (use them weekly), can't use my thunderbolt Ethernet adapters, and I don't see any wireless mice that I want using USB-C that end up nearly flush with my laptop.

Also, m.2 supports either 2 lane for 4 lane NVME. Samsung has a 2TB m.2 NVME SSD that lists for $1299, but more importantly: I'd be able to buy a 1TB version now, and bump it in 2 years (just like I did for my current Pro Retina)

Guys I have a question:

I need 512gb SSD. If I choose the base 15" and upgrade to 512gb comes at 2529 but the other 15" comes at 2,699 so does it compensate to pay another 150 for the upgraded CPU and GPU? I don't think so... what do you guys thing?
Divide that $150 into how many days you will own your new laptop. You tell me whether it's worth it.

I can state new Mac Pro's, iMac's, and display's have been waiting in the shadows. I posted this explanation yesterday but will trim it down as it's a read.

Intel's missed releases benched new Mac prototypes. Numerous delays prompted the decision to release new MacBook's before the holiday season. Updated desktop systems will be released next year as some models require Intel's improvements in integrated graphics while other models will offer professional level BTO options with dedicated GPU's and server class CPU's. Refreshed displays with possible dedicated GPU's have also been developed. Waiting for CPU and GPU advancements has been a hurdle for production cycles, most notably the "X" nomenclature replacing "E" and "K" CPU's.

Skylake-X and Kaby-X
In June, Intel announced ditching the E and K nomenclature in succeeding the Broadwell-E chips with the introduction of "X" for its Skylake and Kaby Lake processors. Unfortunately, constant delays meant benched Mac's. Primary interests were Thunderbolt 3, improved integrated graphics and 4K+ support, Xeon E3-1500 v5 server chips, etc. We held back as Kaby Lake was on track for a Q2 2016 launch with "X" variants in June promised no later than Q3.

In August, Intel announced Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X would be shelved until late 2017. Some close to the situation claimed Cook channeled Jobs' level of anger as Apple began seeing declines waiting for Intel to get it together. Rumor mills suggest a possible move towards in-house production for crucial components (CPU's) while introducing high-end dedicated GPU display components with new production lines.
Time APPLE dumps INTEL!
