The notch hate is so overblown. It fades into the background with any tool bar. Or will be blacked out in full screen mode because of the 16:10 screen ratio. This thing is awesome on almost every way
Please show some software that has a dozen drop down menus. Or more. It’s a real concern here.

La mejor computadora, el mejor teléfono, el mejor reloj, la mejor tableta, el mejor softwareThe best computer the best phone the best watch the best tablet the best operating system all of Apple.

Anybody notice how much time professionals spend using their machines to do work, instead of brooding over fashion points?
It's not a fashion point. The menu bar will have to go around the notch when it's too long, meaning the Window and Help items will be in a strange place. The full screen video will be obscured by the notch. I don't know what will happen when you use two apps in full screen mode side by side, because there's icons and navigation right where the notch will be. That's no fashion, it's functionality.

Fashion point is, however, trying to make bezel super thin for no reason whatsoever. No one gives a **** whether bezel is 3mm or 10mm on a laptop.

You can't claim to be the PRO device for photography and motion pictures without the two most important ports. A lot of us were tired of carrying that dongle around.
Nowadays pro is USB-C, period. All the rest is the crap of the past.

So Apple focuses on form over function and they are "evil". Dell focuses on form over function and they are "prettier".

Yup, definitely not the target market for the new machines. 😝

With this iteration, Apple didn't focus on form, aesthetics or cool factor because there is a notch, when compared to a 2018 XPS of the same calibre + same 1080p webcam.

IMO Apple focused on function with this iteration, they've brought back ports from my 2012 MacBook Pro. It took nearly a decade but kudos to them.

The power they’ve put into those things is astonishing. And I’m glad they added miniLED tech. Hope to see more good HDR content made by pros who buy these. Notch… it’s practical. And for a pro machine - it’s more important to actually bring some practical benefits. Can’t say about Macbook Airs tho. I see apple putting the notch into them with M2 redesign.

And yes, they probably could put FaceID there now, but they want to have something new to make people upgrade to second gen of these.

For me - I feel relieved as I neither need nor want any of these. My wallet might finally recover after buying iPad Pro 12.9 lol... but I’m happy for all those who waited long for such powerful portable machines.

Has anyone tested this or is this just based on Apple's info? I'd be really curious to see real life render tests in non-optimized applications.
reviews will be out shortly. Apple has recently been very honest with their performance comparison so there is no reason to doubt them. The m1 performance comparison were honest.

the M1 pro is 1.7x faster and M1 max is 2.9x than the 5600m in final cut 8k rendering. There are more apps listed here. You have to scroll down. In all cases the 16 core M1 pro is faster than the highest end option of the 16” MacBook Pro

1. Majority uses miniDisplay port, period.
2. SD card isn’t pro world, period.
3. MagSafe doesn’t transfer, data, sound and video, period.
1. Majority includes both miniDisplay and HDMI; some Thunderbolt as well.
2. Regardless of whether you believe SD cards are used by professionals or not, they're present on professional equipment - from cameras to 3D printers.
3. Don't like MagSafe? Use one of the three USB-C ports to charge instead.

Im curious, wouldnt the full screen video have to match the aspect ratio of the screen perfectly in order to be a problem? Last I checked all streaming services and youtube etc all have a black top and bottom letterboxing when you go full screen...

However, there may be some issue with apps that utilize menus in full screen mode, but those are edge cases. And I bet patches will be available almost immediately for this specific issue.

You don’t even need a proprietary charger. 1) you can charge via usb c, 2) you can use the usb c to MagSafe charger with any brick that will support the charging rate.
So what the point of MagSafe in this case? No point, because MagSafe doesn’t transfer data, sound and video, it’s just wastes space, period.

Why was MagSafe in the MBP to being with? Same reason. In this thread you are already seeing folks very happy with its return, myself included.

1. No HDMI is in use due to its major limitation.
2. Nowadays all pro equipment is fully equipped with USB-C ports. If SD card is back, so should be USB-A.
3. So, in this case what is the point of MagSafe? It’s just waste of space.
