why do we need proprietary chargers. I am not a fan of the new ports, especially since they removed one usb-c. But could live with those.

but getting back to the magsafe is stupid. Even now that EU pushes towards standards.
You are in luck — you can ditch the USB C-to-MagSafe cable and just charge with USB C. Even the EU doesn't say you can't offer additional means to charge.

The 14" comes with 16GB by default, the 13" came with 8GB RAM, IIRC.

They only inceased the prices by a small amount.
  • The equivalent 13” MBP was $1799, now the 14” is $1999.
  • The 16” went up a little, but not as much as everyone was expecting.

SD card is back because those 10 tech YouTubers really needed it to edit their videos off a SD card.

Do they support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) to reach 2,000 MB/s with external disks, like Kingston XS2000 Portable SSD?
I am wondering the exact same thing. USB 4 doesnt require it to be backwards compatible with 3.2 gen2x2, it is only optional. So if they dont mention it we will have to wait and see.

lol. Those haters saying Apple wouldn’t bring back "legacy" ports
Well, they didn't. USB-A would have been legacy, but there's nothing legacy about HDMI and SDXC. Those are still ubiquitous, useful and prevalent ports.

Having said that, the return of MagSafe was total fan service. At least is a regular USB-C at the other end so it'll be easily replaced when it breaks (which won't be as usual, as it's now a braided cable).

I want this but don’t know if I should get more RAM for the base 14 inch

I don’t do video editing, just a lot of movie watching, some gaming and web browsing

I hate tech Twitter on days like this because people post stupid stuff that they think is clever/funny. Like the WSJ‘s Joanna Stern posting a picture of the HDMI port saying it’s going to be her new wallpaper. Or Nilay Patel joking that Apple’s website is slow because people love buttons and ports. Or of course all the notch jokes. Seriously get new material guys. And honestly what makes these laptops more pro than anything is the silicon, not bringing back an HDMI port.

I love how people complain about wanting thinner bezels but hate the notch. Where should the camera go? Please tell the Apple engineers a better design. And show us. Grace us with your genius.
i don’t like the notch and don’t care about the camera which i would never use.

Be honest with yourself…the notch had absolutely nothing to do with it. You weren’t buying anyway
Yet you failed to recognize my concerns and possibly his by using software that has a dozen dropdowns. I’m quite concerned about it running into the “notch space”. Therefore, I’m at least waiting for reviews to see how it handles it. It was going to be an instant buy for me. I have $3,500 I can spend on it. But now it’s not an instant buy.

Lol the screen is the least important thing and that’s what you’re focusing on?
Least important? it’s literally the thing you look at it’s very important.
Thats like saying a TV’s screen isn’t important.

Why would they? Even the 16 core graphics option is faster than the highest end 5600m in the 16” intel model
Has anyone tested this or is this just based on Apple's info? I'd be really curious to see real life render tests in non-optimized applications.

Everybody likes good silicon, but the problem is Apple was always touted as a leader in industrial design, but with this release it's clearly no longer the case. This is the official end of Jobs' design approach.

That is a fair point. Cinema 4D springs to mind. It's certainly over 2/3 screen on my 30" 4k monitor on my Mac Pro.
The loss of horizontal space for menu items is definitely something that some applications are going to have to account for. What happens now if an app has too many menus or whose names are very long? I'm usually on an Ultra wide monitor where I have never come close to filling up the menu bar but I am curious what MacOS does. Is there an ability to scroll to access menus that don't fit? Do they all wind up in a single menu drop down as sub-menus?

I was going to say the prices were a bit steep but... 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, mini LED display with pro motion in the base M1 Pro MBP?
I paid about the same for my 2020 Intel MBP (upgraded to 16GB RAM) that I'm now trying to sell because my M1 MBA eats it for breakfast.

Do I need this sort of power when that MBA does all I want faster than I need it? Nope. So as long as they keep making the MBA like this, I'm fine.

You can't claim to be the PRO device for photography and motion pictures without the two most important ports. A lot of us were tired of carrying that dongle around.
