Back to the past:
1. HDMI - outdated technology
2. SD card - outdated technology
3. MagSafe - bulky, ugly and no future perspective

Nowadays Pro means data transfer speed for big data volume is most important.

John Ivy, please come back.

MagSafe is back in every Apple product. Even the watch hockey puck is a Magsafe deriviative. Nice try though.

1. Still used by the overwhelming majority of external displays.
2. Still used by the overwhelming majority of digital cameras.
3. The same thickness as a USB-C port.

I would prefer the top of the screen to have a thicker bezel. I have my credit card beside me - but apprehensive.
But then people would complain of a thick bezel. There is no way to win here. 🤷🏻‍♂️ My 2015 Pro is on life support so I definitely need an upgrade.

Is no one going to talk about the lack of a discreet GPU?

Yes and on the website most applications are shown in full screen mode and doesn't show the notch either. At least it seems like the notch won't clip into the window itself, which I guess is is a good thing.
That's intriguing me too. If the notch can be all but hidden, this thing is back in the game. On the FaceTime screenshot they've got on there it looks utterly horrendous.

As my current MBP is coming into its vintage phase, I'm due an upgrade at some point, but now I'm thinking "what if I take the plunge on a notch-potch of a design only for it to be removed in the next model"...

A notch, a thick bezel at the bottom, and no Face ID to boot. Beyond belief...

I worry how it’ll look on older applications and games (that won’t get updated). Will we end up with full screen apps in the notch area? Or will macOS register that as unusable space?
I don’t think it’ll be a problem. From the screenshots full screen apps won’t use the notch area as usable window space. Presumable if you mouse over that area the menu bar pops in instead of push everything down like it does right now in full screen.

Which is nuts. Its' the same area where there's currently a bezel. There's a net zero loss of screen real estate. The menu bars shift up.

People are crazy. "more space, bigger screens, better camera"
apple: here you go, we did all that, now it's got a small notch
People: What were you thinking?

This? (Yes it has a 1080p webcam)

Very weird.

Dell was able to have thin bezels with integrated webcam on top but Apple has bezels like this plus a notch? WHY, APPLE, WHY?

I’m amazed by how many people say their purchasing decisions are driven solely by the presence or absence of a notch, rather than the need to get work done.
For these people, the PRO in MBP stands for "promotion", not "Professional", as they buy these things solely as fashion statements, meaning they need it to be 9 mm thick and have no notch anywhere in sight in order to show other people that they got the "promotion" and therefore have disposable cash in order to buy the next shiny they have no idea how to use properly or what the hell it's used for in the first place.

The people who find these notches such a hindrance will be perfectly served by the 8GB MBA. Just get it in space black and they'll never even know the difference.

If you truly need the power of this machine, you would barely notice that it has a notch. You would notice you are freed from dongle hell. You would notice it has dedicated decoders which you had to pay $2K for to get in a Mac Pro a few years ago. You would notice that magsafe is back. There is sooo much done exactly right with this machine, the notch is barely a blip on the radar.

I think it’s only hidden in full screen mode. I don’t think I mind though. They basically made the black space next to the webcam on current models available to the menu bar and nothing else, and we get more space for windows and content. I feel like it’s visually jarring but I appreciate the utility.

Huh. I don't hate this thing. The notch is... I'd have to see it in action. But I'd mostly describe it as gross.

The ports though. The ports.

MagSafe: Glad to see it back because of the implementation. MagSafe to USB-C cables are fantastic. USB-C charging still being available is really nice. This gives us MagSafe without compromising the gains from USB-C charging. I love this. It's also a better setup than the third-party replacements over the years.

This excellent implementation makes the next decision absolutely ridiculous:

HDMI: What? Why!? If you're going to throw in a port that's super handy on the move, USB-A would have been much nicer. If there's a port I use on the go, and have generally experienced as needed on the go, it's USB-A whether it be for USB sticks, mice, or other odds and ends you mess with when in the field. If you wanted something to cut down on dongles, this was the port. (And I carry and adapter for this, something that's never bothered me.)

If you're connected to a monitor or a TV, you're at a legit desk. This is place where adapters matter almost not at all.

I simply do not understand HDMI's presence... at all. Especially since it seems to exist at the cost of a Thunderbolt port. Replacing an "I can do anything" port for HDMI is annoying. With that said, the number of times I have actually needed 4 Thunderbolt ports is... zero. This configuration wouldn't impede on my workflows, but I legitimately do not understand why—of all the ports out there—HDMI is a "pro" feature. I'm interested in some feedback on this from pros—not people who use this to connect to their cheap decidedly not pro monitor without an adapter. You can make the "I don't want an adapter" argument for pretty much every port that exists. That's just not a good reason.

I'm guessing the presence of SD cards is pretty much all about photography, right? This one I get because adapters for that port are, how shall we say, cumbersome. I realize you can use this for something other than photography, but... with the pro moniker there should be a professional workflow this targets.

Memory and SSD upgrades are welcome. 8TB SSDs... wow, lol.

PS: Audio port has been moved to the left. Thank you.

The notch hate is so overblown. It fades into the background with any tool bar. Or will be blacked out in full screen mode because of the 16:10 screen ratio. This thing is awesome on almost every way

People being weird about the notch. Mostly they didn't even watch the keynote when she showed it was integrated with the macOS toolbar.
