is it so important for you guys to have 1080p selfie camera?

i would have preferred no notch and stay on 720p or even less if necessary.
If we stayed no notch and 720p camera then we wouldn’t have gotten more usable screen space. Nothing was taken away.

Missed that, my apology. Most of the pro connection is USB-C. Unfortunately, HDMI 2.0 doesn't support 8k.
How many people need 8k? The minority. 8k monitors won’t be mainstream for a while for the majority, so HDMI still makes sense.

you can still connect an 8k monitor using the TB connectors…

Yes, I'd rather have unobstructed view of the content on my screen than having to constantly look at a black strip housing the webcam. It's a super dumb decision on Apple's part, that's my opinion but you're free to have yours, thank you.

You don’t have to constantly look at it. You can turn your eyes anywhere you like.

Are you aware that there was a black strip housing the webcam on previous MacBooks? There was never any visible content in that area.

You can’t imagine a machine that can edit 8k video wouldn’t have some people plugging it into a 8k screen?

I’ll give you that the TB4 is there, but we lost one in order to have it replaced with a under spec HDMI and a slow UHS 1 slot(not even UHS 2 for the Sony folk still on SD, nor SD Express to gamble on that somehow unseating CF Express).

I think it's hilarious how many people are freaking out about the new MBP.

In 2016, there were ENDLESS threads about how Apple had forgotten Pro users, and come up with an MBP that was so thin and light and bereft of ports that no Real Pro user could possibly make it work for anything.

People hear screamed and cried and tore their clothes over how completely Apple had gone for thin/light/design over everything that really mattered - speed, ports, graphics card power, battery life, MagSafe etc.

The new M1 Pro/max MBP's absolutely are positioned to simply murder any laptop we've seen before on speed, graphics, battery life, etc, (and get us out of dongle hell), and all of a sudden people are crying about 'BUT IT'S CHONKY AND UNSLEEK!!!'

I can't even explain how eager I am to trade in my year-old 2019 16" i9 MBP - It's not that sleek, and has ludicrous thermal design that causes the fans to spin up every time I copy a file or watch a video. It's loud enough under even very modest loads that it's a problem to use the laptop for recording just audio for a narration/lecture in GarageBand, much less recording video.

The M1 13" is still available for anyone wanting the slim/light M1 MBP experience, the M1 Pro/Max MBP sure looks like a massive win for anyone actually wanting a Pro MacBook, rather than one that wants to be a MacBook Air.

Very weird.

Dell was able to have thin bezels with integrated webcam on top but Apple has bezels like this plus a notch? WHY, APPLE, WHY?

evidently the dell does not have the quality of camera that this new Mac does?

With this iteration, Apple didn't focus on form, aesthetics or cool factor because there is a notch, when compared to a 2018 XPS of the same calibre + same 1080p webcam.

IMO Apple focused on function with this iteration, they've brought back ports from my 2012 MacBook Pro. It took nearly a decade but kudos to them.
As an owner of a 2018 Dell XPS I can say the webcam is poor quality and only 720p. It is also below the screen. It is terrible placement so I have to use an external webcam in order to not have it show my hands typing or show an unflattering nasal shot.

Newer XPS laptops moved the webcam above the screen but they are still only 720p.

'Cause it is useless. Considering updated battery longevity there is no point in MagSafe at all. Don't use dongles at all, because each tech has usb-c nowadays, and most of the time use wireless connection.
My laptop stays plugged in 100% of the time.

4 is not enough some times. Just saying.
How often do people need all of them when mobile, though?

That was what bugged me about my 2015, I'd get to my desk:
  • plug in power
  • plug in external monitor 1
  • plug in external monitor 2
  • plug in headphone/speakers
  • plug in usb for hub with drives
  • plug in usb for keyboard/mouse

With my 2018, I get to my desk:
  • plug in single USB-C to dock with everything else already plugged in

Where the extra ports come in handy is when I'm AWAY from my desk, and that's when having ports of the type that actually match the things I'm going to plug into them makes sense.

For most users, the built in SD Card slot will be more than adequate. For those in demanding pro workflows, they’ll simply buy or use an SD Card reader they already own or not care since they use CFast or something proprietary. Video being run out to an Atomos ends up on an SSD, so no worries there since there is now an extra TB4 port for offloading video.
Exactly!

My 2018 MBP on a light day:
2x TB3 CF Express B readers
1x TB3 SSD
1x TB3 external screen.
