this is incredible!
exactly what I needed
back in 2019!
the convenient ports, fast, compact, typing fluidity, nice camera and great battery life
so I purchased a Dell XPS 9380 then.

For once in years, Apple actually takes most pro complaints to heart, creates a beast of a laptop with legacy ports, MagSafe, gorgeous high FPS screen, and (very likely) plenty of horsepower that will last for years, and all the first several pages of this thread have to offer is cynical bitching and moaning about the notch.

Lots of Apple customers, especially the kind that buys $3000 devices, are perfections, on top of their game, intelligent, successful. Precisely because they're perfectionists, they buy Apple and not Acer. The problem with top brands is that they have to get used to demanding users who want NO COMPROMISES. And this notch has the word "compromise" written all over it. Hence the "ugly!" screams. Logical.

ordered mine, replacing my late 2013 Macbook pro, thus ensuring I never went without the magsafe, and proper keyboard. ETD Dec 10-23....

Also got a clever spam call today saying someone has attempted to purchase a Macbook Pro and Apple iPhone 11 on my amazon account... just advising caution!

Notchbook Pro. I can't stop laughing.
At this point in time, it really looks like Apple is engaging in a customer psychology experiment to see just how far they can go with silliness and people still buy and defend.

But those who embrace the notch (and rounded corners) are implicitly admitting that it's about form not function, because missing screen information is not an issue for them. ;)

Not that there would be much information to lose on the typical macOS notebook in the middle of the menu bar.

Make sure you order the $59 MagSafe USB C cable if you want to use the MagSafe charging port. I can’t imagine ever bothering with it honestly with the number of USB C laptop chargers I’ve accumulated over the last 3 years travelling with my Matebook X Pro.

Remains to be seen if a 30w charger can run the 14” model. Unlikely if they’re packing a 60+ watt charger with it.

Can’t wait till Tuesday when my 14” model arrives!

All this angst over the notch. I rarely run macOS apps in full screen mode and like the menu bar across the top, so having a notch in the middle of that bar to house the camera makes perfect sense.

Full screen videos will always have black bars top and bottom anyhow. 99% of the time the notch will be occupying otherwise wasted screen space.

Wish it had FaceID but maybe MS Windows Hello has a patent hold on laptop facial authentication.

Interesting. I was reading and I understood Microsoft wasn't officially supporting Parallels. I'd just like something more “permanent” if I could. Especially since, when I trade in my 2015 MBP for a new one, I'll be giving up Mojave (hence my lifetime Dreamweaver license); I can lose MS-Office (NeoOffice is fine) but Dreamweaver has no replacement and is #*$&(!^! expensive to rent. Also, I do have ancient, and I mean ancient, Windows software I still need.

Microsoft doesn't support it. And if you run the "PC Health Check" - which is Microsoft's "am I ready for W11?" test, the answer is that everything passes except that the "Apple M1" is not a supported processor.

It activated with my (very) old Pro license I believe originally from Windows 8. Whether that was de jure legitimate or not, I don't know. I feel like the spirit of the license is being obeyed because I've only ever had one copy of Windows installed anywhere.

It works with no limitations I have found. Whether it stays that way is a crap shoot, but I am willing to bet that Microsoft would rather have the money from Parallels and Fusion users than not.

The camera clearly won't fit in the top bezel. So Apple would have had to eliminate the camera/keep the same poor quality (people would scream bloody murder), increase the size of the top bezel (people would scream bloody murder), or use a notch. It isn't currently practicable to eliminate bezels.
No, the camera does not have to be under the screen (in the notch) to improve quality. It can fit in the bezel. Just use properly size bezel. Apple paid no attention to bezel size for a long time. Why all of a sudden they started caring now? I would understand 9to a degree0 if they got rid of bezels but they did not.

Well I for one have been waiting for this release since my 2015 MacBook Pro. I bought the 16 with Max 64gb, 2tb.

i am so puzzled by all the people here who should be looking at the Air or the iPad Pro. If you aren’t creating something please don’t buy one of these. These are for creators. You are taking it away from someone who may create the next Facebook or Fall Guys or whatever.

I do iOS dev and enterprise web dev and ethereum dapp dev so thats why I want the fastest cpu. I got 64gb so I can run vms, compile large code bases and also I develop games on Unity and I can use that hdmi port to play the game on my flat screen as god intended for a switch game (Without taking up a T4 slot or my dev screen). The 64gb can be used almost all with the graphics gpu if needed so that makes this thing unbelievable for developing games and 3d.

I also use the adobe creative apps quite a bit so the ML hardware is appreciated. And they use up a lot of cpu and memory as well.

plus I am seriously into music producing so all the cpu and memory I can possibly have will be needed there. The 2tb is probably more than I need, but NI Komplete ultimate takes up 500gb right there, so I don’t want my hd to be crowded right off the bat. I’d rather spend a little more and not have to upgrade again for 5 or 6 years.

plus I really appreciate having an SD card slot cause I always lose the stupid dongles and I like to create backups with them and lock them away just in case. Plus I’m big into external synths and I’ll tell you almost every other synth or sampler has an sd card so that makes it easy for me to move data around when I’m in the producing mood. I haven’t seen this mentioned as a reason but trust me music producers will be pleased here.

I can also tell you sd cards are useful for crypto because there are some things you don’t want on any computer with a internet connection or even in a secure cloud like apples, you know what I mean?

These extra ports all come down to workflow convenience in the end, and I really appreciate them in my day to day.

like I said, if you arent doing **** like this, then this MacBook Pro is unnecessary and you should leave it for someone who will do something useful with it besides browse the web.

Holy **** do Apple's marketing and brand alignment efforts ever work flawlessly.

Is this really the perception you have of the avg Apple MBP target customer?

Sorry to break it to you, but that's what Apple wants its customers to believe. You buy this machine with the aspirations of becoming part of this elusive cast of successful entrepreneurs that have their **** together, carefully watch their carb intake, work out daily, never fear anxiety or self-doubt, and always have their mind on the prize! Onward and forward at all cost!

Give me a break. It'll be purchased by a slew of people who will use it for menial word processing tasks, emailing, and a handful of spreadsheets.

The rest of the working creatives that the machine is intended for will not give two wet ***** about the notch. After a few days of ownership, you'll ignore it just like you've learned to ignore your iPhone notch.

Such a weird product. Tech wise fabulous. But the design is a step back by 10 years. And adding a notch but no FaceID??? Adding a 1080p camera but no 122degree wide (like on all new iPads)???

Heavier, thicker, needs more power (huge power bricks). Huh?!

Just odd.

This MacBook Pro looks incredible. 64 GB of unified memory is insane for a laptop. Even includes HDMI, MagSafe and an SD card slot!

I’m currently using the new M1 iMac as my main computer and it is so much faster than my previous Intel iMac

Once I start going back to traveling, I’m going to need a MacBook Pro so I’m definitely planning on getting one by next fall or whenever there is another update to the MBP

Johnny Srouji is my new Digital Pimp!!

bruh bruh! His work the team just sold me on this performance salivating.

64MB L2 cache?! Jesus the performance is insane!

intel ceo saying they want Apple’s business back nah/uh you’ll be working the foundry streets on the Xmas joy train for Apple lol. 1.7x performance Pro Max chip in the same power envelop?!

wow Apple just took the cosmos!

Mac Pro Apple Silicon is going to be insane!

I'm really glad they abandoned the "as thin as possible" mentality and just gave us the features we want. You can still make a laptop look good, be portable, and give you good options.

Good riddance Jony Ive.
It’s virtually the same thickness, it’s just ugly

So yes the notch is extremely hideous but what's with the black keyboard deck? That is uglier than the previous keyboard too. Huge step back design wise with these.
