You don’t have to constantly look at it. You can turn your eyes anywhere you like.

I'm sure if Apple put an Apple logo in the middle of the screen you'd find some pathetic justification for it.

People told Apple for years that Touch Bar is useless and they finally removed it. They will do the same with this notch. It's way too ugly for the ultimate benefit of having a laptop that's a few mm narrower.

My 2018 MBP on a light day:
2x TB3 CF Express B readers
1x TB3 SSD
1x TB3 external screen.
But are you mobile or at a desk?

If you're at a desk, get a dock and avoid having to plug/unplug all the time. That's what I do so I can have a ton of things connected where I'm doing most of my work.

The cost of the dock isn't much more than the array of dongles you need to convert to all the right types.

Apple: Here's redesigned Macbook Pro with bazillion times better performance, crazy battery life, bigger miniLED screen and a huge price bump.
MR: THE NAAAAAAAAAAATCH!

Apple: Here's a fanless MBA with M1. It has crazy battery life, insane performance per watt, and doesn't even require a fan for Intel beating performance.
MR: The bezeeeeeels !!

Apple could create a MBP, powered by a small arc reactor for unlimited battery life, and people would complain that they didn't use the light to make the Apple logo glow. Doesn't really matter. The pre-order volume was so large that the Apple store servers couldn't keep up. I'm willing to bet the same people complaining were the same ones crushing the servers.

This is when at a desk and how would I plug multiple TB3 devices into a dock that all need the full or near full bandwidth supplies by one port. These aren't USB, they are TB3 and I have more TB3 devices, frankly I was hoping for 6 TB4 ports so I don't have to slow down.

And you’re still whining about the Touch Bar.

Honestly, why do people who hate Apple so much hang out on this website? Can’t you all find a Dell or Intel or Samsung website, where you’d be happier? Or do you all just enjoy being miserable?

Fair enough. I can see how this would be disappointing for your use case.

Why do they even admit they have a notch? Its not a good thing? Anybody?? no one wants this?! Who wants this. who benefits from a notch? ?????

Impressive! Apple is finally listening to its users. The Mac is finally back!!

Very weird.

Dell was able to have thin bezels with integrated webcam on top but Apple has bezels like this plus a notch? WHY, APPLE, WHY?

iSATTdY.jpg
Dell XPS records 720p at 30 fps and from reviews it looks almost like lower resolution upscaled to 720p. Not all 720p webcam are the same either. If you look at the 13inch MBP's webcam it looks very decent especially in comparison with much better colors and details. There is probably something preventing Dell from implementing a higher quality webcam sensor in bezels that thin.

Hmm Bezels, Notch and no Face ID to show for it. How is that notch going to work with applications? Menu bars? Full screen mode?

The benefit isn't from the notch in particular but from moving the menubar above the rest of the screen next to the notch. Obviously no notch is preferable but I think it's an acceptable tradeoff for more screen area.

$1499 was an entirely unrealistic expectation.

I had hoped they would have kept the $1799 price (which is what they used to charge for their upper tier MBP). $1999 is not bad considering what all it includes (also taking into consideration the state of the prices of chip supplies and the like).
Actually, now that I see that the $1999 model has less CPU and GPU cores, that’s quite disappointing for that price tag.

As much as I love my 2015 15” MBP, these new ones just blow it away! At some point, I’m gonna have to get one of these things they are simply way too good to pass up on.

Why do you keep defending Apple's decisions even when Apple clearly agree they were wrong? Apple would have NEVER removed Touch Bar if they thought people use it. People don't use the Touch Bar. Gone.

I have an iPhone Pro, iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, Apple TV, Apple Watch, AirPods Max, AirPods, my kid has an iPad Mini 6, my wife iPhone, MacBook Air. No one is going to tell me I can't criticize Apple's design decisions, so just **** off since you're clearly unable to continue your run of ridiculous non-arguments.

That notch looks ridiculous. Can't believe Crapple are still trying to make it a thing. There goes any hope of the iPhone 14 being notches with a punch-hole camera. Looks like I'm going out tomorrow and buying a Galaxy Flip.
Imagine being the kind of person who frequents this forum and uses terms like ‘Crapple’.

This MacBook Pro looks incredible. 64 GB of unified memory is insane for a laptop. Even includes HDMI, MagSafe and an SD card slot!

I’m currently using the new M1 iMac as my main computer and it is so much faster than my previous Intel iMac

Once I start going back to traveling, I’m going to need a MacBook Pro so I’m definitely planning on getting one by next fall or whenever there is another update to the MBP
You know what else has an HDMI, MagSafe and SD Card slot? The Late 2012 Macbook Pro Retina.

For once in years, Apple actually takes most pro complaints to heart, creates a beast of a laptop with legacy ports, MagSafe, gorgeous high FPS screen, and (very likely) plenty of horsepower that will last for years, and all the first several pages of this thread have to offer is cynical bitching and moaning about the notch.

insert Picard facepalm.

Let me tell you where HDMI makes sense: You're going to hold a presentation at work, at school, at university, or anywhere, and you want to plug in your computer to the local projector or large TV, via HDMI. Then you remember that you left the dongle at home. So for lots of people the lack of HDMI meant that forgetting the dongle caused a huge headache on a daily basis. That's why I hated mini displayport too, I kept having to carry a stupid mini displayport to HDMI adapter to class.

I agree that a normal USB port would have made a lot of sense too but that doesn't make HDMI a bad decision.

Honestly I think there should be one USB-C port and 2 normal USB ports. The USB-C port can be dongled out to do whatever you want, but the normal USB ports would be used all the freaking time since that's STILL the standard today.
This is a ridiculous argument. You should not depend on what the environment has. For example, just two years ago almost, I had to use a projector that had VGA instead of HDMI. Now would I look like a less "professional" if I didn't prepare for this scenario?
