I've got Boot Camp 5 software working just fine on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro in Windows 10. The only issues I have are getting the fn keys functional in Win 10. Otherwise, it's pretty good. I just upgraded from Windows 7 within the OS.
Grab an updated download of bootcamp (I grabbed a copy 2wks ago) and then go into the drivers folder in the bootcamp download and run the keyboard driver program and it will install update and it fixed my function key issues go away on my late 2009 13" MBP

did you hear about the new and streamlined and improved and brand new innovative feature of windows 10 that shows ads while your playing windows solitaire???

microsoft wants to charge you $2 a month to get rid of the advertisements.

why would anyone want this feature?

no thank you, I'm not touching windows 10

Ads only show when playing solitaire multiplayer.

Weird, I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (unsupported) on Windows 10 using the previous version of BootCamp, and everything works flawlessly. All I did was install Windows 8.1, install BootCamp drivers, upgrade to Windows 10 using the Upgrade tool, then reinstalled the BootCamp drivers again, as some things weren't working.

Oh how nice, Apple has obviously ditched support for my 2010 MacBook Pro. Funny that as I bet a Windows laptop from 2010 runs With does 10!

How do I go about installing the new boot camp, obviously not through Apple I'm guessing?

EDIT: Oh never mind I see people have it running fine on older machines, a question though, I registered for my free upgrade from my Windows 7 ages ago, yet I have not had any confirmation I can upgrade, how long does it take, or is it better just to install it myself?
My late 2009 13" MBP kept trying through windows update but failing so I gave up and downloaded the windows iso/installer tool and forced it myself.

Its super cool that Apple is still supporting Boot Camp. They could have easily ended development as it is a rarely used feature for the vast majority of Mac users. This is also a damn fast release.

Super bummer about the supported machines list. Hopefully the software still installs on older hardware but may not be listed. There is absolutely no reason i can see not to support the older machines.

I'd urge caution on such sentiments. This is crucial to Apple's marketing, and if I couldn't run windows, I probably wouldn't have a Mac. This harkens back to the 80s, where Apple users were cut off from the rest of the industry, and didn't end until the PPC era came to an end. While few use it, and I almost never use the Windows partition, it is a requirement for me to have assured compatibility between my stuff, work, and Microsoft Office (as bad as Office is). So, boot camp probably won't disappear any time soon.

Well that just stinks. I had Windows 7 SP1 working just fine in Boot Camp on my 2010 Mac Pro, decided to upgrade to Windows 10, got it working perfectly, and now Apple refuses to support the 2010 Mac Pros in Boot Camp?!?
My guess is that Apple is devoting more resources to iOS and OS X than Boot Camp these days. The fact that you got it working on your older Mac suggests that there is a way to get working using a combination of Boot Camp 5 and Windows Update.

It's also possible Apple will expand this list over time. It usually took a lot longer than 2 weeks to get the Boot Camp drivers at all.

Wow.
This is pretty bad.
I'm installing Win10 on a Dell e4300 c2d with a ssd.

This list here... I see Apple being greedy.

So you are telling me my cMP 4,1 dual quad with 48GB of RAM can't run w10?
I hope Parrallels and VMware get THEIR act together.

If it were simply "Apple being greedy" they'd have dropped El Capitan support for older Macs. Instead every Mac that runs Mavericks runs Yosemite and El Capitan.

Parallels 10 won't read a retina MacBook Boot Camp partition. They'll probably make users buy Parallels 11.

I've been running Windows 10 within a virtual machine within Parallels 10 just fine, but couldn't use the update app and instead had to download the ISO because Parallels incorrectly reports that its display driver is out of date.

I've a USB stick for Windows 10 supplied by Microsoft itself and it won't work in Bootcamp, which reports that it needs a 64-bit version of Windows 8. Is this an update for the OS X Boot Camp Assistant, or just a driver update package for Windows itself?

You severely underestimate just how many users DO use Boot Camp. Many, many people are only allowed to use Windows at their workplace or they may be told quite specifically that OS X is not allowed/compatible, therefore people need to use Boot Camp/VM's to get around this issue.

Other users choose to run Windows natively because they want to, and there's an awful lot of users like this!

Of course some systems not mentioned in the list can run Windows 10 without any problems but you'll be on your own and unspported by Apple. Use the latest versions of Boot Camp support and start from there.

They dont need to write drivers for anything apart from their trackpad, keyboard (special key support), and hfs driver (apart from the D700 which seem to be an apple exclusive, but Im sure AMD would be responsible for that). Everything else is stock standard affair, chips and chipsets used in countless other generic windows computers. Thats the reason that those who want to install windows versions on "unsupported" apple models can do so without issues if they just hunt around for the correct drivers from the appropriate chipset manufacturers (broadcom/realtek/intel etc).

I agree with you though, they seemed to draw a line for windows support, which I presume is more to do with testing and validating than anything. Although the cynic in me thinks its just par for the course with Apple and their support for their older machines.

Apple Camera, Various different trackpads, Power drivers, SSD controller, Thunderbolt. Some of the other stuff can be hunted down separately as you quite rightly mention, but even most of those are tested and signed by Apple for Windows not just grouped together with the exception of the graphics cards. Then its a case of building one easy to use package which deploys all these drivers correctly along with the software - its not a simple task and thus I don't blame them for not bothering to support 4 year old computers to be honest.

The older Boot Camp drivers worked just fine on the Windows 10 Preview until I installed a major update. The right click and click to tap survived that but the special function keys did not. I am sure that on a fresh install of RTM or just reinstalling even the old bootcamp drivers after that update it will be smooth sailing.

It is still very annoying how many controllers Apple shoves into their computers. Cirrus Logic Audio? I thought they were dead.

Err, what? You can already run Windows 10 as a VM. I'm doing it right now.

Same here... So u can either pay money to get a windows 10 home to use with Bootcamp, OR u can install windows 7 within a Virtual machine, download the ISO from Microsoft (for free) and upgrade and will have the same effect.

You don't have to completely up to date ... U only need SP1 for Windows /Vista.

I've done this from a complete install of Windows 7 SP1, without running Windows update, downloaded the ISO image from MS, and it upgraded fine.

No Mac Pro 5,1? What a joke. I have it running perfectly on mine, in EFI mode no less.

At least the Windows 8 Bootcamp software works fine in 10.

Well, it does NOT on a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro -- the 8.1 drivers produce multiple blue screens per day. Will be interesting to see if the new drivers fix that.

Windows 10 is as crappy as w in 8.
Can't understand why would anyone with Apple OS want to install this crap on their Macs anyway...

You don't have to understand why people want to do it.
And as for your comment re Win 10, I suggest you actually try it before you comment as you are very wrong. If you can't bring yourself to try it, then I suggest, with all due respect, you keep quiet on the subject.
