I never understood why we can't native NTFS support on OS X and HFS+ on Windows when they have the drivers already working and built into Bootcamp...

Cause Microsoft has right to NTFS, which comes with your windows license. They dont have drivers that can read/write NTFS.

All 3rd party software reading/writing NTFS is reverse engineered.

My update is failing with the error: "The file blah blah...is not a valid installation package for the product Boot Camp Services. Try to find the installation package 'BootCamp.msi' in a folder from which you can install Boot Camp Services"

I've already dug it out and it fails.

NTFS is owned by Microsoft. Apple would have to pay a license to MS for each Mac sold or OS X distributed. I guess it's a similar/reversed situation for HFS+.

I somehow installed Windows 8.1 seemingly without Bootcamp. Not sure what happened but I don't have the bootcamp icon anywhere when I boot into Windows. I wonder if I need this update or not...

nice! no mac pro classic 2009-2012.... whatever....

Just installed Windows 10 on my 2008 Mac Pro and installed BootCamp 4. Works perfectly, no issues. Just have to mark BootCamp64.msi as run in compatibility mode to get around the ridiculous version check.

It was actually unnecessary anyway since Windows 10 worked perfectly fine without BootCamp installed at all.

You can simply run the Apple Software Update on your existing Windows 10 and it will download the Boot Camp 6 Update for Windows 10. Mine was about 1.2GB on my 2012 MBPr.
I was just thinking the same thing. All you need to do run the new Apple drivers and you should be ok for existing installs.

That would be quite dumb at the moment and hit Apple right back in the face. Cos the system now that constantly freezes and has errors is Mac OS X since Yosemite. There are constantly errors and GUI glitches.

And thats on my iMac (late 2013 and the 2015) my MacBook 12" (from this month) - My MacMini runs fine though.
No errors, no glitches on Yosemite.
Running on MacBook Pro mid 2010 and unsupported MacBook early 2008

The cut-off point may be that mid-2012 is 3 years before mid-2015 (present day) so any machine older than that isn't required to be covered by AppleCare.

That said I put Windows 10 on my 2011 MBP and installed the 8.1 bootcamp drivers. Works as well as I need.

Because sometimes an operating system can write to another operating systems drive and screw things up. Even worse is a hacker gets in through Windows and starts writing to your Mac partition.

Typical Microsoft geek-out feature... not well THOUGHT OUT. It makes sense on a phone, not so much on a laptop or desktop.

Cortana works flawlessly on a PC. I'm amazed just how advanced it is compared to Siri and Microsoft have been working on it a fraction of the time compared to how long Apple have been working on Siri since acquiring it. Siri isn't even on the desktop!

Microsoft are doing a demolition job on Apple and showing them the way forward.

I used Macs in school for years but couldn't afford my own until spring 2008. One of the first things I did was install boot camp because I was nervous using a Mac full-time. I fired up boot camp several times over the next year—mostly to play games. Now I haven't had to use it since 2009. I can't think of a single piece of software, aside from some games, that I would ever need Windows to run.

A few years ago when I got my current job I had to use a PC for a few months before getting my fancy 27" iMac. My productivity was terrible during those months. The only Microsoft products that I have to use daily are Outlook and Lync and both are pretty terrible—at least the 2011 versions. Outlook likes to stop fetching my mail during the day and for some reason I can no longer view team calendars, even when they re-invite me. Lync randomly disconnects without telling me so people can't chat with me. Luckily I've got my team using Trello now which helps!

The only Microsoft thing I really liked was my Xbox but the Xbox One has been a cluster. It's so unstable, surprisingly slow for a newer console, and the software is really clunky. First party games like The Master Chief Collection have been a disaster. Even after countless patches I still have to force quit the game about once an hour or so because matchmaking craps the bed or the menus glitch out and I can't navigate anywhere.

yes i have installed windows 10 via bootcamp on lacie 500gb external thunderbolt ssd.

not that then. when i had problems (i deleted bootcamp which lead to a chain of problems so havent reinstalled it yet) it seemed that the crashes and restarts happened when i had 2 usb drives plugged in. subsequently someone has said apple's hfs+ driver for windows isnt compatible with windows 10 and to turn it off.

I love Apple, but I think when my 2011 dies, I'm just going to get a Windows laptop. They are well built now, will have Windows 10 and retina quality screens (XPS 13" for example). I have Windows 10 installed on a 5 year old i7 Quad core desktop that still rocks. El Capitan isn't going to support Metal on anything older than 2012 and I already can't use hand off and all the because of the bluetooth 4.x requirement. Every OS I lose new features. Pfft.

I own a late 2012 Mac Mini Server, with Windows 10 on BootCamp.

The updated BootCamp drivers are not available in software update on the MM, nor when running Apple Software Update within Windows 10.

So what i have to do then? how to delete the bootcamp if i can't get to windows but only in the safe mode? i tried to uninstall the bootcamp in safe mode but doesn't let me.
