What similarly-priced laptop is as solid (nearly NO flex in the chassis) and has a keyboard that doesn't suck?blisters said:what i'm saying is the macbook is nothing special. an entry level laptop that's incredibly overpriced compared to the rest of the market.
1. The Dell laptop keyboards are, in a word, craptastic.macintel4me said:Compared to the upper end White MacBook, Dell is $100 less expensive. I surprised (somewhat) that Apple isn't more price competitive. The Dell also has a 14" screen versus Apple's 13.3".
EDIT: I forgot about the $40 802.11n wireless card. That makes the difference at $100.
3. SOUND
I'm a musician so i'm pretty dependent on a good sound card. Of course i will use an external Firewire Sound Card at home, but i still want to be able to edit and mix stuff on the go without my projects freezing and messing up when i open em. So are there any differences with the new MB? Better? Worse? Any musicians out there? Comments?
Right now im using a crappy three y old single core 3,4 Mhz Siemens so of course anything will be better. But i don't want to mess up with my first MAC purchase. Thinking about waiting for next gen (LED, maybe lighter etc) but i feel like i've waited long enough just for this bump. And i _do_ like the white color. Would go well with the YAMAHA HS-50 monitirs, the WD PASSPORT 250 GB WHITE, the TC ELECTRONIC KONNEKT-8 sound card and the MILAB DC-196 microphones. (All the stuff are white if ya didnt figure)
But of course, then i'd have to sell almost everything i own.
So the difference is about $140 USD after tax is removed, slighly less than at the Canadian store. The new Macbooks are up on the UK store, still the same prices!
Just look at the conversion price for the UK and US store.
Configuration 1
$1,099 (£527)
Actual UK price
£699 ($1456)
Difference
£172 ($358)
Configuration 2
$1,299 (£623)
Actual UK price
£829 ($1726)
Difference
£206 ($429)
Configuration 3
$1,499 (£719)
Actual UK price
£949 ($1,976)
Difference
£230 ($479)
Its around 25% more expensive in the UK then the US. Ok I understand there is going to be difference due to taxes but £172 ($358) difference in price just for the base model, its just crazy!![]()
Thanks D4F!
Although im not sure i can afford the 4GB. Was thinking about 2GB. But i'll check with my MAC-friends and see if anyone may be able to install the RAM if i buy it somewhere else than Apple.
Running a trial *cough cough* Cubase SX3 on my PC now and tho i'd like to continue using it and easily move my current project i'm having serious thoughts about switching to Logic och Ableton. Gonna do some research - but maybe thats for another forum.
Do not pay Apple for their memory!!
They steal lol
Get the 1MB version and buy RAM somewhere else man.
I payed $201 delivered for 2x2GB sticks and they fly!

Both are good. The generic RAM at macsales would be fine, too.But does it matter if i choose a certain brand of RAM? Or is it all just the same?
What about theese 2 compared:

Is there a difference between the two?
Thanks

No. They probably even use the same chips. And macsales offers a lifetime warranty, just like Crucial. A lot of people on these forums like Crucial, but I don't see why you would pay more for Crucial, just like you wouldn't pay more to buy directly from Apple. From my past experiences with them, OWC (macsales.com) rocks!Crucial is a bit more expensive.. Are there any performance difference or lifetime difference?
Be sure to show this post to the Marriage Counselor when things go sour....
OK, you've got my attention. I haven't seriously looked at Dell laptops since someone I knew went through FIVE of them (one of which actually started to smoke) before getting one that worked well enough to keep.
Anyway, please provide a link to a $500 Dell with the same specs, size, weight, etc as the MacBook. Seriously. I may want to pick one up for a cheap 2nd computer. I'm just too lazy to look it up for myself.
You really have no idea what you are talking about do you. Lets do the comparison.
Mid MacBook - $1299
Dell XPS M1330 (the only Dell that compares to a MacBook)
Add a 2.2GHz processor, Bluetooth, Wireless N card, 56 W/hr battery so you get a comparable machine.
$1449 Total
And that doesnt take into account iLife and Leopard which make the MacBook more attractive.
Face the facts indeed.
I haven't been using my macbook all that long yet, but for basic stuff the battery life is ridiculous!
Wait, ridiculous bad or ridiculous good? You know how when the kids say something is "bad" they really mean it's good?

Has anyone got a new macbook? How does it handle leopard with all the eye candy?
