If Apple could only...
Release an aluminium macbook, basd on Penryn, that was ultra-portable with a dedicated 3D graphics card that crushed games and had a battery life of 10 hours for $999 most all of the "waiters" would buy. Some will still like to wait just in case.
I just purchased a blackbook which was my 2nd mac in 6 weeks. My first was a 2.8 ghz 24" imac.
Things to think about prior to complaining...
1. The difference between white and black after the hard drive upgrade is $125. It's your choice, Apple makes more money and you get what you want IF YOU WANT IT.. win... win. No one can make you purchase the blackbook. I did because either I'm a pretntious *****... or I just like the black finish. The world can decide.
2. You can compare hardware by various mfg. to Apple all day long. My macbook and my imac both run great. Spend $1500 on a windows based laptop and try to run Vista in all its' glory and make it work with your software/games. Good luck. That's one of the reasons I switched. Apples hardware and software work togehter very well and run windows for my deidicated real estate apps.
3. You can't always get what you want but sometimes you get what you need. It all comes down to that, Any sane computer user knows that. It's give and take. My blacbook is super portable, runs great, and does everything that I need it to do. So many people talk about "well maybe I would want to run some 3D software, so I'll wait." You'll be waiting for current technology to advance itself to what you feel delivers value for your budget and still then the more expensive computer will always do more than yours and you will still more than likely feel slighted. Total cost after I upgraded the RAM to 2GB myself. $1600. And, that aint bad. If I use it for 3 years, my avg. life span for a PC, It will cost me about $50 a month for ownership.
I could be totaly wrong here, but it still seems that on the whole... software/hardware and value/performance... The current "updated" macbook is still a good value.
No, the problem is that you're totally right! So be very careful, those that don't like logic and reason and live in the insane world of (let's compare hardware but not software/let's compare price but leave certain things out) will be flaming you soon.
Professional video editor/photo editor/photographer that knows nothing about web design and needs a website yesterday... get Mac... uses Aperture and masters it... goes to iWeb... Aperture library is there... can make a gallery in seconds, it sucks, but it's online.
Same guy needs to make a slideshow of images... exports photos from Aperture directly to Final Cut Pro with transitions and durations... exports them and chapter markers to DVD Studio Pro... burns DVD. Same guy needs to make a list of folder contents and send to God knows who... opens folder... selects all folders and copies them to clipboard... goes to Pages... pastes contents from clipboard and folder names get inserted with spaces separating them... could never do this in Windows or with Word.
Guy thinks to himself... why the hell did I use Windows before? I love having good hardware, but when it comes down to it hardware ain't s*** without the software, and Apple's software is everything. It keeps me moving at my pace... it doesn't stop unless I do something wrong... and it thinks the way normal people do. Bottom line... it keeps me efficient and productive. Windows did the same thing, but not as smoothly as Mac OS X and iLife and the Pro Apps.
Hmmm... your source must be the crackhead down the street from me. My source says spring, probably March/ April timeframe. Apple wouldn't release another revision of MacBooks a couple months from now. The Mac Pro in a couple weeks, followed by new apple tv and MacBook Pro at MWSF in January.
I hope, and believe there's a good chance that the MBP will get updated before then. The MacPro is a definite for January, the MBP is a hopeful, since the current model just adds the option of a faster processor and HDD. The MacBook has its update, it has Santa Rosa and much better integrated GFX, so if you want one, get one. In some regards it's a great choice over a low end 15" MBP.
If Apple does update the MB, or give it a new case in January, then I would be very surprised, and Apple would have started back on the path of being a real computer company that innovates and designs breathtaking computers, instead of a wannabe Motorola putting all their efforts in a phone.
