The Dell XPS M1330 with a 4 cell battery weighs 3.9lbs and with a 6 cell battery it weighs 4.3lbs the MB weighs 5lbs. With a 9 cell that protrudes from the back the XPS M1330 weighs 4.7lbs.
The Dell 1420 weighs about 5.4lbs.
The Dell XPS M1330 does have many features of a pro notebook.
When a home user is looking to buy a computer or a student it is often the Dell 1420, the MB or the Sony CR that they look at. These notebooks do compete for the same market.
The MB is still a good consumer laptop though.
Edited to add:
Actually i do find the MB's a bit tempting but the lack of dedicated card puts me of. I also don't think that i would like the KB as well.

Allright! Can people quit comparing the Dell 1420 to the MB???? Not in the same class... Period!
If you just have to price match across to the dark side, do so with something comparable... the 1330.
Is it lighter than a MB? NO! Spec it with a similar size battery (the 6 cell) and the weight will be about the same (you won't know the difference unless you use a scale).
Is it cheaper than a MB? No! Spec them with the same hardware, and they will be similarly priced!
Not to mention the MB is thinner, and its battery doesn't stick down (making it way thicker).
I won't even get into the build quality too much, but the Dell is VERY flimsy to the touch...
The only thing I can say is better on the Dell, would be the sound... Its at least lud enough to be heard!
Cheers!
