Does anyone with a new Macbook know if the iSight is the same as the one in the new iMacs?

Because of the limited upgrade but more because they're gouging Canadian customers, I've gone out and bought a $350 Acer.;)

Seriously. :p

When they decide to price the Macbook at least the same as in the U.S. and offer a competitive value, I'll reexamine getting another Macbook.

Seriously? I'm from Canada and I'd say that's a pretty dumb move.

DO NOT BUY A MACBOOK YET!

They are going to be releasing new MacBooks with 1TB HDD and a 4GHz CPU, 8GB RAM and 1GB Video card, 1/2" titanium case and 21" fiberoptic backlit touchscreen and 24 hour battery within the next 10 years!

If you buy now you will be wasting your money!!!

I am goig to just keep my good old Pentium2 with a 20GB HDD and 128MB of RAM running windows 95 until these come out becasue I dont want something that is going to be obsolete in 12 months!

My PIII266 Thinkpad 770ED is finally getting retired (or consigned to a life of packet sniffing using Frontline software.) It has 120MB, 8.1GB and came with the Windows 95 which I did get to run Windows ME but never could get Windows 2000 or XP to work on it ...

I payed $2500 for that beast. I await my new White SR MB 120GB model apple's still configuring it because I added the stupid DVI connector (like the other guy who posted earlier) so now it's a CTO and I'm afraid if I cancel it I'll still have lost my education discount (one per year) and hey if I wait a couple more weeks they'll be available at MacMall but who wants to wait??

I think I'm going to like the white :), after having the black thinkpad for nearly ten years ...

Yes... he is sure.

You can't do it legally, or with the same stability as a Mac. Hackintoshes are garbage.

There are those who like to spend many hours fiddling a system into running OS X. Hopefully, they're not abandoning their children and trophy wife.

Or am I closer to the truth than I think I am?? The word I'm thinking of begins with "H"...

I like this update. The new intergrated graphics is a bonus in its own right! The old GMA950 was ok with enough Ram, but at the end of the day, it was still only 64mb. the X3100 is more than twice that at 144mb.

That pretty much puts it ahead of the standard MBP. Now I'm sure it wont be as fast as a dedicated card, but, it should be able to handle a whole lot more than the previous MB's.

You know what, I miss the PPC days, you never really knew what Apple would put in their machines CPU wise. Now with Intel, you have their roadmaps outlined and you hear about it more. I dont really remember that with the PPC. Intel are nicer chips and more bang for your buck, but it just causes arguements all the time.

Please people, if you bought a Mac, you bought it for your needs. Not for some popularity contest. If you feel like that, keep it a year or two, then upgrade again, late 2008/2009 brings in a new die shrink.

Still waiting for that G5 Powerbook.........

Still waiting for that G5 Powerbook.........

Amen to that, I'll never forget May 2005 when I checked Macrumors ever single second I could to get more info on my beloved water cooled Powerbook G5 and what happened???? they upgraded the 12" from a 1.33ghz to a 1.5ghz, woohoo 170 more mhz and ya for 167mhz FSB. Honestly though that G5 was an amazing machine and it still is. G5 tower still pushes 1ghz FSB, that's still more than rock solid on a desktop machine.

You know what sucks though, is that we're all such die hard fans that when something new comes out and Apple just jacks over everyone who joined in the past, we just keep on keeping on. Think about it there are still people running Windows 98 applications or even Windows 98 itself, who do you honestly know who runs Mac OS 8.5, or 9.2 you know?? or even Mac OS 10.1? It's just a brutal process that we fall into that keeps us buying the latest and greatest because Apple just leaves you behind if you don't. Like the new nano's don't work with 10.3, or like whatever happened to classic? Watch, soon PPC's are going to be bailed on and all those amazing G5 iMac's and G5 towers and even the best notebook in the world the 12" powerbook are going to be useless, it's just sad how we love apple so much that we just perpetuate this process.

But hey, I love them

We still run 9.2.2 at the newspaper office. It's still plenty fast on the G4 Sawtooth model too. I think it was a pretty good OS having come into Apple in the post 10.1 days. I don't know too many people that run the earlier version of OS X by choice or by charge. I really think it's because the upgrades to the newer versions come with some added features that people know they can't live without. I remember when 10.3 came out and I saw Expose for the first time. I thought to myself, "Man that is a feature I could really use in this day of multitasking and opening many many windows." So I bought the first machine that had 10.3 on it. Dashboard was cute when 10.4 came out, but now with Leopard, Time Machine, Spaces, etc. etc. are going to make people using 10.3 or earlier switch instantly.

I think you're talking about V2000, not betamax. Betamax tapes don't flip over and can record 6 hours (at slow speed) just like VHS.

Yes, they did fix the recording-time issue eventually. But in the beginning Betamax was limited in that area, whereas VHS was not. And by the time they fixed it, it was too late.

Congratulations and welcome to the club of the wise ones; it's good to see yet another individual converting from the dumb side of PC/Windows users; it's always impossible to understand why people choose Windows in the first place...

Hold on a second here.... I am a computer technician (Microsoft Certified) and work with Windoze all day at work... my boss is a mac fan and was showing me actual performance tests he was running on a MacPro we have(That is a BEAUTIFUL machine, too) running Windoze Server 2K3 through VMware on it.
It handled Windoze WAY better (virtually too!) than if we installed it on onother box such as a Dell or something.

The main reason I am now switching over are a few:
1) my current laptop is over 4 years old and is rapidly dying and is too expensive to upgrade so I am in the market anyways.
2) I need to get some hands-on mac experience for my resume
3) They are finally using Intel inside and I plan on IMMEDIATELY running Boot Camp and installing Windoze in another partition.

This justifies my purchase, I am getting 2 computers for the price of one.

So, sorry to tell you, some of the new converts are not leaving windows... just we now have a place to play with both OS's.

Hell... if I could have bought a $500 laptop and installed OS X and have it run without modifing it, I would have.

Wouldnt most people? I think the cost is what is keeping most people from switching to mac.

But dont get me wrong, I am VERY EXCITED about the idea of using mac as my daily driver and I look forward to it.
I just need to be able to support Windoze as well on the same machine (I am also planning on installing Ubuntu on it also... 3 OS deal).

Right guys I need your expertise, I am nearing my decision, I would probably prefer the blackbook but just can’t justify the price. So I am choosing out of configuration 1 and 2. There is a £129 price difference which will get me 40GB more space, a superdrive and 0.2 GHz more processing power.
The more I think about I might not need a superdrive and can just buy an external DVD writer for £20 if needed. The increase in hard drive space is not much and I might just upgrade it myself to 250GB in the future so all that remains is will the 2.2GHz processor be a lot quicker the 2.0GHz to warrant the extra £££?

Thanks

Allright! Can people quit comparing the Dell 1420 to the MB???? Not in the same class... Period!
If you just have to price match across to the dark side, do so with something comparable... the 1330.
Is it lighter than a MB? NO! Spec it with a similar size battery (the 6 cell) and the weight will be about the same (you won't know the difference unless you use a scale).
Is it cheaper than a MB? No! Spec them with the same hardware, and they will be similarly priced!
Not to mention the MB is thinner, and its battery doesn't stick down (making it way thicker).
I won't even get into the build quality too much, but the Dell is VERY flimsy to the touch...
The only thing I can say is better on the Dell, would be the sound... Its at least lud enough to be heard!

Cheers!

So I am confused...when will these be in stores? My local store doesn't have them and seemed to not know what I was talking about. (although I'm sure they KNOW). Is there going to be a "release" on Tues??

Chicago area stores already have them. You can tell just by looking at the keyboard.

Get No. 2, the Superdrive makes for the difference, and every extra ounce of HD is worth buying...combo drives are not really useful nowadays; the Blackbook is kinda overkill given its limited advantages over the best white config; just get it if you REALLY want it in black.

Yep. Those iMac's are really stable at the moment :) .......My collegues Dell running tiger has been up (and used pretty much every day he says) for around a month now.

Personally i like the apple machines too much to do that........Anyway it's wrong to say they are crap when a dell has better reliability than the current iMAC's.

Keeping on

And I know several who are still running OS 9.2.5 on Quadra and PPC macs. All in all, carrying universal codes would make apps very bulky - in a way, Apple has left some behind in the dust, but considering the monumental evolutionary changes we have seen during the past 12 years - [x86 - PPC - Intel] [OS9 - OSX(PPC) - OSX(intel)] they seem to be promoting an evolutionary drive toward growth, refinement, and continuous improvement. How would things have been had they stayed with Copland, running on 6504 chips? It seems most would prefer to run a lean, mean, cutting edge system on up-to-date chips, capable of interacting with modern networks and not bogged down with additional code for archaic compatibility. Sure, it would be nice to run Classic, but not at the expense of carrying piles of additional spaghetti code to run it. However, you are correct - Apple is in the business of making money any way it can. If fanatics are willing to upgrade everytime an announcement is made before, during and after MacWorld Expo and WWDC, then they're more than ready to serve.

what are the chances that new macbooks will be released in macworld? or jan/feb next year?

I find it awefully suspicious about apple's quiet update, and seemingly no advertising, even now that it's released.

Is it because they are going to update it soon?
