I will say: if you have the 15 Pro, take some of the spatial video now of the people you care about. Or places you go. You don't have to do a lot, but take some now because even with the 1st generation, it is really cool to see our 4 year old from Christmas 2023. I'm sure it will keep improving - it would be nice if it was 4k or 8k for example - but I wish I'd been able to do this of my parents and grandparents. Maybe the 16 Pro will do it in 4k or 8k.

These are irreplaceable moments so take a little of it, if/when you get a AVP or something else to display it, you'll be happy you did. :)
Anyone who has seen the movie Minority Report will know exactly what you mean.

It’s dead in the water and should never had made it out of the R&D lab. I don’t know one single human in RL who is remotely interested even in the concept of it. If it requires Star Trek technology then they should have waited until that technology was available instead of releasing a beta product fifty years early that no one except techies would ever dream of wearing in a million years.

In my opinion 👍

I mean sure a pressure cooker is a technology in the same way a wheel is I wouldn’t say there is anything gimmicky about a pressure cooker something that has been around for many decades.
I am talking about the effing Instant Pot; not pressure cookers generically. (And must you call everything you disagree with "insane?" I guess it is some generational verbal diarrhea like, you know, everything is "awesome"; LMAO triggers very easliy for you - that's gotta hurt).

I could care less about headsets. Once this Apple Vision thing looks like glasses, then call me. I’ll wait.

VisionOS is the product. The devices are just delivery systems.

VisionOS will split into different form factors. One form factor will be like the current model, fully immersive. I am already using the Vision Pro to increase productivity in my writing, where I need full immersion to help me get into a Flow state. The other form factor will be similar to the newly announced glasses by brilliant labs...eyeglasses that provide an AR overlay of the everyday world. This may be called VisionAR or VisionLite. A third option will be something in-between.

While many of you seem to want those glasses-only versions, for my use, I really want the full immersion experience. And I actually don't think I want to walk around with an AR overlay on the world. I want to use my device in my office, and then take it off and go about my daily outside of work. I barely put up with the necessary interruptions that my Apple Watch gives me with notifications. I won't want that on my eyes walking around, no matter how small the form factor.

When I bought the first iPhone, I focused less on what it didn't have and more on what it had that nothing else in the market had. The VisionPro is not the perfect device, but it's the best device available to me right now, and I'm going to get a ton of use out of it now. And that will only improve over time. If you don't have a use for it, then it's not for you yet.

This is what Apple should have done. Make the headset nice and light and have a larger brick for the battery, computing, fans, etc.
Computing and fans are only a minor part of the overall weight. You still need the thick lenses, the motor and mechanical parts for the eye distance adjustment, all the sensors and cameras, the Zeiss lens attachments, and so on.

Not sure if the sub 12 ms pass-through latency would be feasible if all the camera and sensor data needs to be passed forth and the rendered image back over a “remote” connection, with the processing happening in between, all within that time frame. And if that’s feasible, the cable would likely have to be thicker.

I don’t think there is a way to a light-weight headset anytime soon.

You can not like it but it’s absolutely not DOA it’s going to sell out shortly and it’s a very hot topic of conversation everywhere online.

Apple owns over 50% of the tablet market but only about 10% of the PC market. They cannot afford to lose PC marketshare because then the pros will all leave them but they can afford to lose tablet marketshare to their own Macs.
That Mac marketshare has remained at 10% for awhile now. With Qualcomm releasing their Snapdragon X Elite processor that competes with Appoke's M-series, ARM-based Windows PC'S will get exciting later this year. Mac marketshare may not have a chance to go beyond 10%

Just like the Mac Apple Silicon.

wait for the M3 or M4 Chip.

They should have used sn M3 chip instead of an M2 for $3500 bucks.

If Apple's team can resolve those issues over four generations – similar to the progression of the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch – Gurman's take is that the Vision Pro could eventually replace the iPad.
Is this a way of saying the Vision Pro will never reach its ideal form? The iPad has struggled to reach its ideal form as many have argued Apple doesn’t want to crimp on MacBook sales.

Would they do the same here? Not want to crimp iPad sales or try to still keep from crimping MacBook sales?

We’ll have to see I guess what it means.

This tweet makes no sense to me. How many people are regularly taking long flights but can’t afford business class? And if they can’t afford business class Ben’s suggestion is spending $4K for VR googles to watch movies in economy?

Insane the amount of people here who will drop 5k on a laptop but are stunned at spending 3.5k on this. People spend money all the time. The pearl clutching is insane. How many people spend $1500 on a phone every year? Tons, upgrade programs are a huge selling point for providers. People spend hundreds or thousands on clothes and shoes regularly. You personally don’t think this is worth the money. I guarantee you’ve spent money on something that you could’ve gotten a just as useful less expensive version of, why would someone ever pay for a leather interior on their car when a cloth interior gets you to the same place at the same time for less money? The examples go on and on.

You may personally feel this expense isn’t worth it. That’s perfectly fine. I actually agree. But to assume that it’s absurd and no one would ever spend a few thousand dollars on something that wasn’t completely necessary is just being obtuse to get your takes out online.

This thing will get two generations like the iPhone mini did.

For the record, I don’t necessarily dislike it. I actually think it’s a technological marvel. But that’s all it is. Technology. There’s no product in there with mass market appeal and it’s going to take more like forty iterations before there is. If ever. Again, only in my opinion 👍

I agree that Vision devices need to become much smaller, lighter and less expensive to be seriously considered by most people.

As for iPads, the only thing in my workflow I cannot do with my Air 5 is downloading torrent files - all the rest is just fine. People have been speculating for ages how great it could be if Apple allowed iPads to run fully-fledged macOS, instead of iOS with added split-screen modes. Instead Apple gave us rather expensive Magic Keyboards, instead of upping up their iPadOS game. Obviously we end up in a described “limbo”, when iPad Air 5 with its 10.9” screen (599$) + Magic Keyboard (299$) costs just a 100$ less than a 13” MBA.
