How is that so? Laptops, TV'S etc all sell into the mid to high thousands. Have you priced up a quality projector or soundbar? Tech isn't cheap. The price is no different to a specced up iPhone 15 Pro or iPad Pro.
There is a difference between (justifiably) "expensive" and "overpriced". And people show that the AVP is way too "overpriced". - At least for what it's offering.
That same goes for the 8GB MacBook Pro M3. Only dumb people or people with no clue buy that.

I was skeptical as well of the long term success of this thing until there was some sort of killer app that would draw in a lot more paying customers. But it's a 1st generation item. As technology gets better and cheaper I can see this catching on eventually.

It has to be a more social and immersive experience. Like having friends from your area and/or from all over the world attend concerts/sporting events/plays like you're actually there in person and enjoying it together.

One thing I've learned is that at times I am sometimes skeptical about a new Apple device like this, in the long run it's hard to bet against Apple's success. From the iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch, etc., they have a pretty good track record of delivering products that people want.

I'm optimistic about VR in the long term, but the Vision Pro is in a tough spot. It's worse than its $500 competitor in some areas, such as gaming and fitness.
The Vision Pro is better than the Quest for use cases like floating many apps around you simultaneously, but for the same price, you can get a fairly nice multi-monitor system that is even better for most multi-tasking.
Yes, a flat screen is better than a Quest for gaming overall, but at least with VR gaming, you can play new kinds of games that wouldn't be possible on a flat screen.

It's way overpriced for a device that isn't an absolute necessity like your phone or your laptop.

It's a cool little preview of what one day will be mainstream technology, but it's not going to interest most people until it's $1000-ish in price.

Where's MKBHD and iJustine when you need them ? Shouldn't they be wearing the AVP 24/24 ?

Maybe people realized that reality is cooler than being locked wearing an ugly device on their head the size of a truck... Sometimes less is more.
No one is going to wear a headset 24/7, that is just stupid.

Doctors weren’t wearing the Vision Pro themselves, but a scrub nurse reportedly had the VR goggles on during preparations for the surgeries and during the procedures. The Vision Pro was used to view virtual screens imposed on the operating room to select tools and monitor surgery progress.
That doesn't sound very groundbreaking.

To me, it's not even the price that's the issue (though that's a problem in and of itself). I think it's just not good enough. The field of view isn't great, it's heavy, and what you can do with it currently is just a worse experience than using a laptop or your phone.

I'd have bought one if I thought it was a better experience at anything I do. Much rather use my laptop which cost more than an Apple Vision Pro and is much more convenient and efficient to use.

It is mind boggling that Apple didn't have a plan for more custom content for Vision Pro.

If there was a weekly or even month release of jaw-dropping custom content for Vision Pro, it would increase the FOMO of not owning a pair.

As it stands, no one feels like they're missing out on these things.

Might as well wait 5-10 years until they work out the kinks, the price comes down, and there's some actual content to consume.

Like that 5 minute dinosaur video they released last week.

I think I’m the only AVP user that still loves theirs. Lol. Admittedly, Apple hasn’t pushed any new content, well we did get two things: another MLS trailer and Episode 2 of the dinosaur’s episode. But they were both roughly 5 minutes. Heck, some of Apple’s apps aren’t optimized for it yet. Nevertheless, I’m ready for June 10th to get visionOS 2.0.

I don’t know a single person that paid more than 600 euro for a tv in the last 3+ years. An iPhone is also like 1/4 of the price and usually paid monthly on a contract so it doesn’t hurt the wallet as much all at once.

Of course they do but you can get an excellent TV for sub $2000. You can get an excellent Apple Laptop for approx $1500. You can get a fantastic soundbar for $1000.

Your comparisons are not relevant and the associated price points are not comparable.

Also you are ignoring the usability and justification for spending money for most people. Many can justify $2000 on a TV when they watch it every day.

Many things exist at different price points to cater for as many customers as possible. The Vision Pro currently does not.

Someone who has a disposable $3500 can certainly choose to spend that on the VP, or indeed a super expensive laptop or TV but for many they dont have the money to justify the purchase and dont have cheaper alternatives unless you count the Meta Quest 3 which is a fantastic device and a great alternative.

Tech may not be cheap - but the potential audience for a MacBook air is much bigger than the audience for the > $3000 pro models.

Like it or not, and I dont know why you cant see it from another perspective, $3,500 is unaffordable and an unjustifiable purchase for the majority.

Like i didn’t see this coming, an overpriced head piece that has potentially little to no exciting content on its app store, is not available outside the US and causes great discomfort.

My 2cents is that Apple is running out of ideas, as pc sales continue to decline. The ivision pro was its wildcard, but it has failed to draw mainstream interest.

Although I agree I dont think Apple are wrong to try.

The problem is that 'A VR Headset' given the current technological limitations of the hardware will only appeal to a small number of people especially given the $3,500 price point.

Even if there was a fantastic app store and a super compelling killer app - it still relies on people strapping this front heavy device to their head and trailing an external battery pack for it to function. The majority of customers just wouldnt be interested in that.

It is *very* much a gen1 product and a very expensive one at that.

I just cant see the technology in its current guise ever being something of mass adoption like phones and watches and laptops.

Should wearable virtual screens be something that gains traction in the future it will look far more like the AR glasses of today than the current VR headsets form factor.
