hmm, too bad this rumor doesn't include more health sensors.

I think I'll pass again this year

Yeah, my understanding is that it is Water RESISTANT (like you can wear it in the rain and wash your hands with it).

Water PROOF means FULLY SUBMERSIBLE...

So, the guy at Best Buy said that it is "impossible to make the Apple Watch any thinner"...

so much for that...

There's a reason why Apple made their first watch so thick... ;)
There are many many YouTube videos with people swimming with the watch. I wash mine under running water every day, it has been in the lake completely underwater. Can you dive 200 feet with it? Of course not. Swim laps, Yes. Shower, yes...

Great solution for fitting more tech in the current design. They'll need more battery if it's going to have its own LTE radio.

They could make it thinner by leaving out the battery. You can use a little tether cable from the phone whenever you want to use the watch.

As of right now I don't see a good reason to buy anyone's watch. There isn't a must have watch only app for any system, battery life isn't spectacular and right now I think all of them need a phone nearby anyway to access most of their functionality. If (when?) someone develops that watch application to die for I'm sure it will seem like an obvious idea, but no one has done it yet.

It doesn't need LTE. 2G would work fine.

Ok, so the 2g data to stream the music isn't a battery drain. The bluetooth it probably needs for headphones would be. Or the they could put a 3.5 mm jack so you could plug the headphones that won't work in your new iPhone with your new Apple Watch instead.

off topic, but I've always found the digital crown to be a bit of an anachronism for something that is so conspicuously modern. They rejected the round face, either for functionality, or to distance themselves from the concept of a traditional timepiece, yet they maintain a visual cue of analogue watches. Because they've tried to push it as a primary input method, they have to oversize it too.

It kind of feels redundant or at least an unnecessarily fiddly way to interact with the device. I know this product category is more than any other in a state of evolution while companies figure out how people actually want to interact with these things, but I wouldn't mind if they lopped it off altogether in Gen 2. I hate to say it, but the rotating bezel I've seen on some other android powered watches seems a lot more natural and less fiddly for such an already tiny device.

I wonder if in the next 5 years we'll start to see smart watches get supersized, as people lose their attachment to what is seen as a normal watch and we all just end up with pip-boys on our wrists. :D

Sorry, no the difference is that one is huge and fugly, and the other is the Apple Watch

If it's a question of packaging, then the Apple Watch comes packaged with better things like wireless charging, OLED full RGB display, mic, speaker, vibration motor, optical HRM, NFC, etc. Etc. Etc. Yes, it might leave GPS and fugliness behind, but that's a small price to pay.

I see. Your rebuttal is to subjectively label the design "fugly". No need to discuss further.

To be fair, the reason he Watch likely has a low warp ter resistance rating is because of the choices they made in the current assembly. If assembled correctly, the watch will likely have decent water resistance to withstand the water exposure you describe. The problem is, and Apple disclaims it right on their website, is that water resistance is not a permanent condition. It simply wasn't designed or manufactured to withstand the kind of exposure you're describing, over time. There are numerous water failures reported that fall squarely under warranty issues and the watch is replaced. But that's only if the watch exhibits this failure during the warranty period. Some fail the first time they are dipped in water, others anything after that, some over a year later after the warranty has lapsed.

If I had to guess, I'd say this is almost certainly due to the glued on crystal, and poorly fitted gaskets, based on the nature of the failures we've seen. Unlike other watchmakers, Apple was likely expecting to churn out tens of millions of these watches in a year, and didn't want to have to worry about testing them for more rigid water proofing and meet launch demand.

And so, the Watch is glued together with questionably assembled seals. Changing temperatures are enough to expose a minor defect over time, enough to let water into the case, especially with no way to lubricate those gaskets and keep them supple over time. Swimming laps with it then only speeds up what is likely an inevitable process challenging a weak water-resistant design. Showering in a hot shower expanding the metal, glass and rubber at different rates, and then cooling them off again in different envronments also puts a lot of strain on a weak water-resistant design.

While I've been surfing in one and can attest it's held up well, I'd suggest once that warranty expires to be prepared to start avoiding water.

I use a GPS watch for running at this has never ever ever happened to me... And I live in Europe's rainiest capital.

What's the point of having an Apple Watch 2 if Cook won't introduce a new bands that day. I want more bands specially a Tim Cook signature pink band and Hillary 2016 band before the election.

Of course their will be new Watch bands. A lot of Watch owners enjoy customizing their watch. Customers want more options and newer options, what did you expect? We can add your Watch band comment to the thousand other Clever Watch band comments on this site.

Well...we don't what Watch 2 will include this year, that is if released in September. The only rumors at this point is the Watch being thinner, cellular connectivity, internal enhancements and possible addional casing options.

This really is the slippery slope for Apple that they are truly obsessed with thinness. Hardly anyone has said to me the watch has to be thinner. The chunky display is actually one of its strengths as it makes it feel more solid and actually expensive.

Myself and I am sure many others would much rather Apple focus on battery life and use that space they can save to maximise the size of the battery. Also independence from the iPhone is the huge thing as being tethered is not a good thing. Why use my watch in most situations if I have to carry my phone with me.

Still worried about health implications when wearing wifi, Bluetooth, Gps, cellular devices all day long on my skin.

The irony is that a lot of people will use those to monitor their health and sport activities (or even their sleeping habits - don't!) while it's still not clear how it will affect us in the long run.

I personally like the depth and thickness of the Watch. When I spend the amount of money I did, I want something substantial and to be noticed. Look at Invicta and Omega, the Apple Watch is not nearly as thick as those other Watches are.

I could care less if Apple does not make the Watch thinner, but we all know they will, which is expected. Battery life could improve. I think Apple will surprise us with something different. Time will tell. Looking forward to Version 2.
