GPS inclusion could turn this into the ultimate work out device, however Apple needs to make the music / podcast sync automatic and seamless to the watch.

For what? Ultra low-res selfies that you wouldn't be able to post without the phone on hand anyway?

Wow, in reading your posts, you really come off as an unimaginative cynic. It's to capture a lasting memory to have when your camera is not easily accessible. I've missed many a photo in the time it took just pulling the phone out of my pocket, activating, and swiping to the camera. Just because you aren't interested in something doesn't mean it won't have significant value to everyone else. Fortunately you don't work for Apple.

I don't think that situation has occurred once since I received my day one Apple Watch. If I am going somewhere I'll take a picture, I will definitely have my phone with me.

And since Apple is pushing for cellular independence, that won't always be the case for everyone.

People using phones in restrooms are a bit more obvious than people surreptitiously taking pictures with a camera watch, if/when such a thing comes to be.

No it's not. It's likely much more obvious with a watch than a phone, since they will have to awkwardly point it at their subject in an unnatural way, with two hands on the watch to press the button. With the phone you can literally hold casually at your side, and click a volume button to snap a picture without anyone knowing, or suspecting that is what is happening. Clearly you don't watch any news media since you missed this scandal:

I'd say you weren't the only one who was oblivious, as the victim of the photo was clearly unaware it was being taken with a phone, and uploaded moments later from the gym it was taken in.

Just look at the diameter of the camera on the iPhone whilst holding it next to the watch.. It would have to be thicker to accommodate it in the body of the watch, especially since the band is attached there as well cutting back even more on available room!
The band is attached at the bottom half, not the top half. There's room for a good camera in the upper portion.

I'm glad they aren't adding cellular independence. That's just another data plan for pay for. GPS though is a must and it looks like we'll get it.

Not necessarily. My brother got a free Samsung watch with his S7 on Verizon. He had to pay an extra device fee but the watch has its own phone number for making phone calls and texts and it shares the data pool with his phone. The thing is he hasn't used the phone or text function at all since the one day he activated it. So while people are clamoring for this cellular functionality I gotta wonder who would even need it. How many of us are ever even without our phones? Seems that is Apples current thinking and I would tend to agree. The point of the watch as I understand it is for info at a glance. Not full on 24/7 active use. Hell a cell phone, no matter what brand, can barely handle that and its got a far bigger battery. Unless battery tech and chip power consumption take a gigantic leap cellular connectivity is a total waste.

Cameras take up volume.
As it stands, camera would make the apple watch much worse.

Fortunately, you also don't work for Apple.

I'll get one if it has GPS. Depending on release date I may wait until next spring to get one.

Or you could get a Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire HR, or a Suunto Ambrit 3 with built in GPS and probably many other's. The original and AW2 are awful, plus terrible battery capacity.

I think the Apple Watch 1, 2, 3 are the The Emporers Clothes like many other of their products.

BTW they do make good stuff I currently have iPad Pro 12.9, iPad Mini 3 Retina with Lifeproof case and ball joint as head-up display on my Kayak, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 5S as oversees phone and Emergency phone in Lifproof case for Kayak and OWS, plus MacBoom Pro 15" Retina Oct. 2013 with Paralells and Windows 10. All of these are full spec.

Will replace MacBook with Surface Book 2 when it appears. Got Surface Book full spec and Surface Pro 4 for staff and they are the business, watch out Apple your outdated OSX is going to die. No one uses it and the iPad Pro 12.9, and the other one, are not PC replacements..Apple are kidding themselves.

I think we have now entered the post Jobs, Tim Cook era... Perhaps he can help Pepsi market their sugary drinks.

Cool story, chap!

I wonder how many of of thepeiple who bought stainless and Edition models plan on upgrading? I know I'm not spending $600+ every year.

GPS and better battery does sound nice though.

LTE isn't needed in the watch. Throw a low power EDGE chip in there, problem solved. Can get data like scores, etc, no problem. They are over thinking the cell part.
If I remember reading correctly, AT&T or another major wireless carrier announced they were going to be taking down their Edge network.

Makes sense since they currently have to manage Edge, 3G, 4G, LTE, and soon 5G networks. That's a lot of technology to be sticking on top of cell towers and buildings. Not to mentioned, Edge has been around for over 12 years.

So sure, Apple could release an Edge enabled watch but it won't work on Edge for much longer :D

Apple plans to announce new Apple Watch models this fall with improved health tracking and GPS chips, according to a new Bloomberg report that confirms previous rumors we've heard about the Apple Watch 2.

The upcoming Apple Watch 2 will not, however, feature cellular connectivity to make it less dependent on the iPhone, as Apple has not been able to compensate for the extra battery life that a cellular connection consumes.

Apple is researching low-power cellular chips for future versions of the Apple Watch, but has been unable to make it work for 2016. The company's "ultimate goal" for the Apple Watch is to decouple it from the iPhone, but technology will need to improve before it is able to do so. LTE connectivity and significant Apple Watch design changes are not expected before 2017.

The addition of a GPS chip, something planned for the next-generation Apple Watch, will allow the device to more accurately determine a user's location for better fitness and health tracking capabilities along with improved navigation. Previous reports have also suggested the Apple Watch 2 will include a barometer, a higher capacity battery, and improved waterproofing techniques.

Bloomberg's report does not give a specific launch date for the next-generation Apple Watch beyond "fall," but it is possible Apple plans to launch new Apple Watch models alongside the iPhone 7, which is expected to be unveiled at an event that will take place on September 7.

A previous rumor from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested we will see both a second-generation Apple Watch with the aforementioned new features and an upgraded first-generation Apple Watch with an improved processor and superior waterproofing.

That's a shame, but I can p robably do without the cellular. I was hoping they would reduce those huge bezels and make it thinner.

Whats about CPU performance? I want to play Asphalt 8 on my watch.
on a serious note, the S1 chip is slow. The S2 chip needs to be multitudes faster. Currently, there is major lag just trying to navigate menus. And that's on both wOS 2 and 3 beta.

GPS is a big improvement, but only for people who run. I only go to the Gym so it's not useful for me.
If they don't add LTE, I hope that it will be 30% thinner. The cpu will consume a lot less battery.
GPS is useful for people who hike. It's useful for directions when walking around. Also useful for quick directions look rather than having your phone propped up on the dashboard. And finally, no more having to pull out your phone to catch a Blastoise.

I had a Gear S2 with my Note 5 and I liked the cellular connectivity but I'm perfectly fine with not having LTE. I never used it with my S2. Only time it was helpful was if I left my phone behind, it would forward to the phone number on my watch and if I had an emergency, I had a way of calling. GPS would be way more useful.

Great news, might be worth buying if it has GPS.

All Apple need to do now it design a decent strap for sporting people to compensate for the watch be so big and heavy and uncomfortable to wear.

For people like me with skinny boney wrists the watch is unwearable, so it would be great if Apple designed a really comfortable padded strap, designed for sports use rather then being designer. Would be great not to have to take my iphone out running with me every night.

No Watch camera ever get a vote from me, as does the cellular.
For the majority of users... Pointless.
Regardless, I need the Apple Watch in stainless so will upgrade as I do find it as an excellent accessory to the iPhone meaning I get update alerts on important things without pulling my phone out at work and in meetings.
