My wife will be happy -- she won't have to hear me moan about wanting to upgrade my S7. And the Ultra, while kind of cool, is not for me.
Agreed. I think the ultra is geared towards the world athletes and true back country explorers. Me a city dweller / suburbs will not find the extra features "useful".

I’ve got an S5 so a jump to the S8 will be fairly big but if I was on S7 it would be a touch call. Unless they start to add new features that are S8 only from the sensors. Wonder if devs can access them and make use of them in apps.
A jump from an S5, S6, or S7 is almost nothing. Health features are similar. Chip speed is similar (they’re all massaged version of the same chip).

Save your money. Wait for something that’s truly, honestly better than this.

If you’re having battery issues, perhaps there’s a reset or setting you can do to improve it.

I’m on a 5 year old S3, and can still survive 1.5-2 days. I don’t even charge overnight. Mostly short top-ups here and there.

Yep. Gold ss s5 here. No reason to upgrade yet. Still get a day out of it and does what I need.

If s8 got the screen brightness, speakers, battery, mics etc of the ultra then it could be different.

I’m more interested in iPhone 14 pm and AirPods to be honest. Next year can be watch.

I have a series 4 and am also looking at upgrading but not sure on the s7 or s8. I prefer the silver rather than the starlight aluminium and the 7 only doesn't have the silver

How come Apple doesnt allow you to select product for comparison?
I want to compare 7 to 8 but there is no option to change these comparisons to see side by seide
Because the changes are so minuscule in the watch line that being able to compare points out the lack of need to upgrade

Series 7 was an unexpectedly big upgrade given the size of the watch. Series 8 is a very small upgrade from Series 7, maybe one of the most incremental. Still a good buy for those on older models. I’m very happy with my green AW7, not a very common model in the world of apple watches
I think like with the iPhones, that is kind of the point isn't it? This update should be for people on older watches and not on a Series 7... I have a Series 7 and the new software is amazing, but the Series 8 doen't realle warrent my money at all

Are there any new trainingfeatures in Apple watch 8 or Ultra? Or is it only in the new software OS 9?

Plus;

New Low Power Mode can give you up to 36 hours of battery life, and it also has international coverage.
Both those are coming to older watches. International roaming will come to Series 5 and up and low power mode to Series 4 and up with updates in WatchOS 9.

Woke up this morning still gutted about the 8, I guess I will try to pick up a cheap 7 or replace the battery in my 5 see how the new software is on it and go another year.

Yeah, very disappointing.

Had Apple simply done the rumored flat design on the Series 8, that alone would have warranted an upgrade for me.

There are a ton of new Training features in watchOS 9 and everyone with a Series 6 and up gets them. Even the Series 4 & 5 gets a lot of new training stuff. Series 4 and up also gets the new Low Power Mode and the Nike faces.

It’s awesome that getting watchOS 9 is almost like getting a new watch, but it’s also part of the reason people don’t see the need to upgrade.

I really wish my series 4 was still living. I learned it was the last space black color…

Ordered from Apple a refurbished series 7 graphite and silver (unsure which one I want). Anyone with S4 or up really don’t have a lot of reasons to upgrade for, I think.

Nope not a lot of reasons. I only use s5 ss Apple Watch for notifications and occasional use. It works great for that. Still looks good and gets a day. I’m bad at not getting notifications on phone. It’s silenced usually.

I understand most on here are all of a sudden die hard sports fanatics. I play basketball a few nights and jog some at 52. I’m good. Don’t have any interest in managing it or quantifying it. Just more crap to track that doesn’t mean much in the end. All that health stuff is turned off.

I’m on a series 6, blue aluminium. Was hoping for a better upgrade in the series 8, mainly so that I could justify getting a silver watch (I regretted the blue but only after it was too late to send it back to Apple).

Not even sure the series 8 is a worthwhile upgrade over the series 6 to be honest. The screen is slightly larger but other than that I’m struggling:
  • From what I can tell it’s the same chip as a series 6
  • Same battery life
  • Body temperature sensor (but less useful for me as a man)

I have a SBTi S6, instead of going with the S8, I went with a Apple Refurbished SS S7. I wanted to go with a different color.

My S6 will be for sale if anyone is interested.

Still can’t decide which to get. I have the 6 but battery is the problem. I want the bigger screen and fast charging so getting a new battery is not an option.

S7 SS on Amazon for 640€
S8 SS 950€

I don’t know what Apple will do with the temperature sensor in the future. Maybe they add stuff so you can indicate if you get sick? Idk

Car crash is nice bc my car doesn’t have that but really 300€ for that?

I‘ve read the S8 has a different processor ?

Ultra would be nice as an active person (8-10h hikes are not unusual and too much for the S6) but too large

I have series 4 and was thinking of upgrading but the series 8 is so disappointing that I just stick it out 1 more year with this and maybe then upgrade. Should have just gotten the S7 from a sale before S8 was released. The new S8 is almost the same as S7, probably the most lack cluster upgrade ever.

They also removed the gold color option from the SE which is little disappointing too..

S7 for sure with that difference.
