I have series 4 and was thinking of upgrading but the series 8 is so disappointing that I just stick it out 1 more year with this and maybe then upgrade. Should have just gotten the S7 from a sale before S8 was released. The new S8 is almost the same as S7, probably the most lack cluster upgrade ever.

They also removed the gold color option from the SE which is little disappointing too..

You can find the 7 starting at $299

I just went ahead and bought the Series 7 45mm to upgrade my good old Series 2 42mm. Very happy with the Midnight color and the increase in screen real estate.

Also, nobody seems to be talking about this, but there is another advantage in getting the Series 7 over the 8 other than the price: you don't have to update your iPhone to the latest iOS 16 if you want to hold onto iOS 15 a little longer. I became very frustrated with early major versions of iOS and I prefer to update around the .2 or .3 minor updates.

Still can’t decide which to get. I have the 6 but battery is the problem. I want the bigger screen and fast charging so getting a new battery is not an option.

S7 SS on Amazon for 640€
S8 SS 950€

IMHO the S6 to S7 screen size difference wasn't worth the upgrade. If it were me, it wouldn't be worth 640€ vs a 99€ battery service. You may feel different.

To be fair: You‘d have to deduct the sales/trade-in value of the S6, which might up-to halve the cost of entry for an S7.

We would then talk about - maybe - 350€ vs 99€.

And besides the technical improvements (20% bigger screen, fast charging) you would get a factory-sealed watch with full warranty in the S7, whereas the S6 would be an opened-and-resealed device with only parts-and-labour warranty.

Whether those points are worth the higher price, is a different discussion. But imho it’s not as easy a decision as your post suggests.

My main hesitation with getting a Series 7, rather than a Series 8 is that I want a new Sport Loop, as the one I have on my Series 3 is starting to look a bit scruffy. I'm not a fan of the Sport Band, which seems to come with all of the refurb watches, or those from a third-party store.

I might just end up getting the SE (with GPS) as a stop-gap, which I can then give to my son, when there is some decent innovation. Or possibly keeping my Series 3 going for another year and seeing if the Series 9 is better.

You are correct, just not any faster.

It's not any faster. New SiP is mainly for the new features and larger displays.
i didnt asked if its faster...only if its the same ..so it is new..because i was wondering how the S6 would work with the new features on apple watch 8 :)

Well I too have an S4 but waiting for another year will not yield any better watch. Until they add a BP function or glucose sensor (which is probably 3-5 years out) all updates will be minimal. I'm giving my S4 to the wife since the battery still get over a day and she wants to try a smart watch to see if she likes it.

Dust resistant and temperature sensor. Wanted to upgrade from a S3 but this is disappointing.
Thanks for posting the pics, that is what I’ve been looking for. So far I note that between 7 and 8, they have the same Bluetooth 5.0, display size and brightness, 50m water resistance, 32 GB capacity…

One thing on the 8 pic you showed is IP6X dust resistance, so I guess 7 doesn’t have that?

That being said I think you’ll be very pleased to upgrade to 7, or 8, or even SE2, if you are using a 3 still!

I went with the Ultra. Besides the larger and brighter screen, it has better battery life than my S7.

S8 Ultra:
Standard mode - Up to 36 hours
Low power mode - Up to 60 hours

S7:
Standard mode - Up to 18 hours
Low power mode - Up to 36 hours

If that’s really your main hesitation, I would just keep in mind you can get almost-new or new bands on places like eBay, I’ve had a good experience with that so far.

Someone above said that the S7 is also IP6X dust resistant. Not sure why it was not listed? I have a feeling that all models in the future will adopt the flat face like the Ultra. With my luck that would be next year after I've waited all this time to upgrade. Still on the fence.

that’s pretty amazing! and a good reason to upgrade for me… 2 days battery life (or at least 36 instead of 18 hours) is a big difference especially given this watch has been out for 5+ years or however long, and battery life has not budged “an inch” practically during that time….

Now I just have to decide if it’s worth that many hundred dollars more for that beneift…. I only get $155 to trade in my poor lowly “old” beautiful green Apple Watch …😕

The battery life improvement puts me in a weird situation, I want the best watch that lasts way longer with that much more battery, but I don’t really want or need all these “rugged“ features, or a band that looks like I’m gonna go climb a mountain or something, when I’m definitely not ! Decisions….
