THIS is what i'm looking for! i have 2 series 4 watches.... i'm willing to save money and get a series 7 (41 mm) if i can find a deal! but every "deal" i find is the same or more than i can get a brand new 8 with the military store discount!

target is still selling their series 7 watches at full price!

even the watches at the apple refurbished store are less than $10 cheaper than what i can get new (i don't need cellular and even all the alum versions are gps & cellular AND i get to choose a band new vs a sport band i already have!)

i just can't find any true deals on the 7 for a 41 mm
The sales have been there…but sporadic. I seem to recall the AW7 45mm (GPS) in green was going for like $270 in the past couple of months (Amazon or Walmart). Just in the past couple of weeks Walmart has had the 45mm S7 (GPS) for $300. November and Black Friday/Cyber Monday are coming soon:)

I have a S6 but do fancy the slightly larger design, have my eye on an S7 on discount rather than the S8

Is EU where the 8 SS is 200 USD more expensive this year it would be a no brainer to go with the 7 SS which is now 300 usd cheaper than the 8 SS

Like new S7 product red £140 cheaper than the S8 too on Amazon. I am tempted just considering if my blue leather band will go with it.

Think carefully. I had the last two product Red AW’s (6 & 7). Loved them both! Sure you can wear any color band with the watch, but realistically the red watch is very limiting in band selections. I have the red braided loop and had the charcoal braided loop (from 2021)….both looked awesome IMO:). I’ve pasted the S6 with the charcoal below. Also the red sport bands look great.

The Apple refurbished store has what you want. Your military discount stacks on top of the refurbished discount as well.

41mm Midnight (w/Cellular) is $341
41mm SS Graphite is $458
This is the way.

I just upgraded from my Day 1 AW5 Aluminum Space Gray, to a Apple Refurb AW7 45mm Graphite SS for US$549. That same watch was I think $799 a year ago, and the same watch in AW8 is $799. Kinda like getting $250 off for what's almost the same watch.

Helped me justify going Stainless Steel for the first time. I have nicer watches, but I've always thought spending a lot on an Apple Watch didn't make sense when the value was in the tech, and in 2+ yrs is outdated/lower in value. But I think that was true-r in earlier generations, and now that we're at 7th/8th gen, the updates are much more incremental. Kinda like when the iPhone got to around the 6/7/8 years. And so the difference between models are less, and so I'm more willing to spend up a bit more on a "nicer" version.

And for me, $549 was a great price.Apple Refurb store is really a gem. Great way to get pretty good deals, on stuff direct from Apple for essentially "like-new" hardware. Much higher quality than your avg 3rd party refurbished device. It's not as big of a discount as you can get if you're willing to go on the secondary market, but that comes with some amount of risk.

There's still some available on the store now if anyone's thinking of doing it. It comes with the Abyss Blue Rubber Sport band, but I was always going to use it with my existing Graphite Milanese loop, so didn't matter to me.

I’m on a series 4 and thinking about upgrading- s7 is available in SS for like 650€. The only feature that might make me wanna go for the 8 is BT 5.3- though I’m not sure of its actual usefulness…?

I have a series 3 and my wife has a series 2. I just bought us both the series 7 (on sale for $379). Is it worth spending the extra money now for the 8 or just keep the 7? Besides the crash detection, what else does thee 8 have that the 7 doesn't?

I just noticed the 8 is on sale at Walmart for $50 off. I picked up a series 7 the other day for $120 off at target. I’m upgrading from a series 5, decided the deal was too good to pass up and using Apple trade in to trade in my 5 for a gift card, so it isn’t costing me much to upgrade. Less than $250 to upgrade.

Crash detection, BT 5.3, temperature sensor, and silver on the aluminium seem to be the highlights.

Leaning towards keeping the 7. I got the Series 7 45mm GPS + Cellular for $379. Target lists the same watch but the Nike version also for this price but it's out of stock and Best Buy won't price match since it's out of stock.

If you have a Series 7 and are looking to jump to a Series 8, the upgrade won't be as noticeable.

If you’re comfortable buying used, check Facebook Marketplace or similar sites. I just picked up a 45mm Series 7 in perfect condition, with the band, box and all accessories, for $250. There were several other ones in my area, despite not being in the most populated area. I think a good deal on a Series 7 makes more sense than paying full price for a Series 8–they’re just so similar.

just curious!,Does the BT 5.3 help in anyway? as i have the 14pm and airpods pro 2nd gen.

Potentially. It enables new features that the devices may choose to use.

  • Bluetooth 5.0: In mid-2016 came the great revolution, a new step forward that doubled the transfer rate, quadrupled the range, continued with low consumption designed for the IoT, and allowed a greater amount of data in each transferred message. In terms of numbers, the transfer rate was up to 50 Mb/s, and the range was up to 240 meters.
  • Bluetooth 5.1: The new version that arrived in 2019 revolved around location, allowing devices to know the location of other devices to which they are connected within centimeters. It will also be able to identify the direction from which a signal it is searching for is coming.
  • Bluetooth 5.2, also known as Bluetooth LE Audio: This is a standard released in the early 2020s that improves sound quality and energy efficiency in all devices that connect for audio functions. It uses a new codec, the Low Complexity Communication Codec (LC3), which can more efficiently compress and decompress the data being transmitted, and allows audio to be transferred to multiple devices at the same time.
  • Bluetooth 5.3: Announced in July 2021, although it has not become available until May 2022. This version offers lower consumption when used, less interference in connections, better security in connections, and better quality at all times, depending on the bandwidth required. Small details for further refinement.

So BT 5.3 has a lower power mode available, and 5.2 has LE Audio, but it's not clear if Apple chooses to use those features.

So potentially it's better, but in practice I'm really not sure.

hmm i see, thanks for the clarifying it for me! ill probably decide to go for the S7 for my first apple watch instead of the S8 then.

The Ultra has fallen from the fugly tree and despite the size doesn’t have a display that is much bigger.
45mm
396 x 484 pixels
1,143 sq mm display area

49mm
410 x 502 pixels
1,164 sq mm display area

I guess they need more competition to up their game and for the most part they have little on the smart watch side of things.

I don't think the ultra is focused on fashion, it's focused on users who need the extra function first and foremost.

Most plumbers don't worry about the looks of their pipe wrench. :)

Just got an ebay S7 45mm GPS for 250 $USD. Came with unopened band, unopened cable, 6 months of warranty left. My S3 42mm still works great and has 96% battery health but I wanted to upgrade. The S3 gets much better battery time. I may try low power mode on the 7.

I wonder if this is the reason my old AirPods 2 sounds better when connected to my new iPhone 14 Pro. It really surprised me that a 3 years old pods can sound better just because the phone is new.

Goes for S7 to get more bang for your buck but be careful about battery health. Focus on that for purchase. If you go for Apple refurbished you will get a 100% battery health which is ideal but the discount may not be much. On the other hand buying from second hand market will give you good discount but battery health may not be great.

There is very little difference in the 7 and the 8. I still like my SBTi becuase it is black, durable and very lite!
