New in beta 2:

Playing some media with a third party media player opens that app on the Apple Watch automatically instead of the generic Now Playing screen, if the app is installed on the Apple Watch. If not installed, it shows the generic now playing screen.

For example, if I start playing a podcast through Overcast using my iPhone, it automatically opens the overcast app on my Apple Watch instead of the generic Now Playing screen. So I get access to the Overcast playback options like skipping chapters or favoriting an episode.

And the launch is instant, even on my Series 0 Watch. Very impressive.

Huh? That has been the case since Watch OS 4.0b1?

It's the reason we all had to remove Overcast from our watches as it doesn't support volume control with the crown.

Oh was it? I'm only finding this out now. I always got the Now Playing screen, not the Overcast app when I started it on my phone.

Yep, that one's definitely been there since 4.0. Overcast's always opened automatically for me in that way since watchOS 4.0. And as noted, lots of people find this frustrating because apps currently have no ability to control the volume of iPhone playback like the Now Playing screen does. Marco Arment has also mentioned this problem with watchOS 4.0:

https://marco.org/2017/09/24/what-watch-podcast-apps-need

The lack of volume control is especially damaging with watchOS 4’s great new “Auto-launch Audio Apps” setting. If you’re playing audio from an iPhone app and have its corresponding Watch app installed, that Watch app shows by default when your Watch screen activates. If you don’t have its Watch app installed, the built-in Now Playing app shows instead.

In the last few days since watchOS 4’s launch, I’ve had dozens of users tell me that they’ve uninstalled Overcast’s Watch app just to force the Now Playing screen to auto-launch instead, just so they could have quick access to volume control.

WatchOS 4.0 is the worst update I have ever seen. Why on earth would you remove the ability to browse my music library? I wish I could go back! This is just stupid stupid update! I am so angry that I can't just calm down.

Well it seems like watchOS 4.2 beta 3 has removed the “Now playing” app from the selectable list of apps. Now it only appears when you start playing music. It still seems to work the same.

You know what I find kind of annoying? I listen to music on my phone when I'm driving back home, and when I disconnect from the car, it still displays the music on the watch hours after I've stopped playing. I wish it was able to kind of assume that I'm done listening to music after, say, 15 minutes or so, or if there was an option.

Can someone check if they have missing album art for Apple Music songs on their watch? Ive got at least 5 albums without art when they have album art on every other device.

Is the complication still available?

Thats my experience on 4.1... i don't think beta 3 removed it unless betas 1 or 2 added it.

When tapping the crown from the watch face, to get to the full app list, instead of the older beehive view, I was able to scroll to, "Now Playing". Now in Watchos 4.2 B3, that selection is not there.

Perhaps in OS4, or 4.2b1 and b2. in WatchOS 4.1 the selection is not there.

Lastest beta has been very good with battery. I can now wake up after 7 hours of sleep with sleep tracking and still be at 100%.

totally agree, off the charger at 6am, 12 hours later i'm at 85%, that's with making numerous phone calls from the watch via Handoff, too many notifications.... etc

not that i had any issue with speed with any of the previous betas, but this one is definitely faster (Watch S1)

Has anyone noticed faster charging? Maybe this beta or maybe the series 3 in general. I put my 7 Plus on the charger at 65% and the series 3 42mm at 80% - same charger. 18 minutes later the phone was at 81% and the watch was at 99%.

Charging with the series 3 in general has been quicker to me. Battery life started at 100% last night around 9pm. Was at 80% at 4pm the next day. It was a lazy day with no LTE today but that is very good either way.

Hi all,

since 4.2 beta 4 on watch i've the problem that emails don't come thru on the watch when on LTE without the iPhone nearby. Yes, the iPhone is on and connected. On Watch I've a red symbol an no incoming mails. I'm sure that this was running on 4.1, i.e. before update on 4.2 b4. Anyone else have this problem? iPhone is iPhone 7 with latest beta 11.2 b4.

Thx
laro

No beta 5? Strange. These usually release alongside the iPhone and mac

I remember a beta for the Watch didn’t come out on the same day as the iOS beta before.

Maybe today? :)
[doublepost=1511975979][/doublepost]How is this possible as the month of November isn’t finished! But the award is great. :)

Latest beta seems to have completely killed the battery life of my Series 0.
It won't even get me through the day (10h) now.
Time for a new watch? It's less than 2 years old.
