You have to be pretty close. Like literally almost touching your mac.
I gave my laptop to someone 10 feet away from me, and it unlocked.

since no one replied to my question on another subforum, thought I'd post here my question..
I use my Mac (late 2013 Retina 13" MBP) at school, connected to school wifi, BT turned on as well
My Apple Watch is connected to my phone via BT, but my phone is not connected to WiFi or Cellular Data (to save battery life throughout the day).
Would Auto Unlock still work?
(not upgrading my mac/apple watch to the beta, just a question that popped into my head)

Yep! Just tested this with Airplane mode turned on, wifi off, but bluetooth on, and it worked.
The auto unlock just needs Bluetooth LE, similar to how Handoff and Continuity work
How does the battery life seem on beta 2 so far?
On the first day it's terrible; 6 hours since unplugged and it has lost about 40%-50%.How does the battery life seem on beta 2 so far?

Battery has been the same. Hard to gauge in less than 24 hours for direct comparison but it hasn't been worse. Doesn't seem better which was slight less than OS2. 10-20% less. Activity watch face is still slow to load on a wrist raise. How does the battery life seem on beta 2 so far?
I received the same error but I closed the watch app on my phone then when I re-opened it, it showed I had an update. I clicked the update and it started the process to update. Only happened the 1 time and now it shows I am on beta 2.I installed the profile already and still no luck. Annoying.
The water droplet for Lock could be to show you should use it when the watch might get wet, whether from sweat or the rain or whatever. Water can make the screen do wacky things, and if it makes the workout pause or end accidentally, it's a hassle.
It brings back the Lock option from watchOS 1 and 2.

Same here for me, so you're not alone at least. I've got everything set up properly and when I click my trackpad to wake up the screen a little wheel spins for a second but then the password field shows. Sometimes the spinning wheel even just moves to below the password field and keeps spinning but I've let it sit for a while and it just doesn't seem to work yet. Probably just beta bugs. Really looking forward to this feature though now that I see how it should work. If anyone finds a fix please do post!Doesn't matter if I am touching my iMac with the watch, it prompts for password. Got everything set up correctly but it just doesn't want to work for me even with the box checked. I am guess there is some bugs that still need to be worked out on Sierra and the watch. Beta 2 for my watch is acting weirdly anyway.

Have you enabled two factor authentication, which is different than two-step verification?Doesn't matter if I am touching my iMac with the watch, it prompts for password. Yup, the watch does not decrypt file vault if you have it enabled, so a password is always required at first startup.Yeah, this is just beta 2, so things will improve hopefully.
It's working fantastically for me though, I'm pretty happy about this. Takes about 2 seconds to unlock, so I'm happy with the speed as well.
Also note that it doesn't work when you just turn on your mac. It only works when waking up your mac after it sleeps (either on lid close or by apple menu -> sleep)

Finally, I'm planning to submit it as a feature request but wouldn't it be nice if we could reorder watch faces on the watch like we can do with apps in the watchOS 3 Dock? (Hopefully I'm not just missing a way that this is possible.)

Haven't seen this anywhere: I just restarted my watch and when it booted back up it had reset to the default list of watch faces. Had to manually delete them all and re-add the few I wanted. Not a huge deal for me but a bit annoying. Will report it. Anyone else experience this? It also happened to me when I updated to Beta 2 but I passed that off as an update bug.
Also, does the "My Faces" section in the Watch.app on the iPhone work for anyone else? It doesn't seem to stay in sync for me at all and making changes there doesn't do anything. Also, trying to edit a face in the app doesn't include third-party complications. Working on writing all of this up for bug reports but just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same or different.

You must enable iCloud keychain on both your Mac and your iPhone. Worked for me then.unlock via watch does not work with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) ;-(
Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch.
Make sure your Apple Watch is unlocked, on your wrist, and powered on.
Battery is killing me here. I've dropped 60% in 5 hours on a 42mm watch. My 38mm on WatchOS 2 is twice as good as that. Tried setting up as new and from a backup and both are the same so its probably an OS bug. Beta 2 has literally halved my battery life haha.On the first day it's terrible; 6 hours since unplugged and it has lost about 40%-50%.
