A bracelet the same price as an iPad air??? Awh come on :(

These are the prices for high end bracelets.
My Omega Seamaster bracelet made of titanium needs to be replaced and to get a new one is $450 at the Omega Boutique.

My issue with the :apple:Watch is more about being obsolete in 12 to 24 months while the Omega can last generations. Sure I understand one watch does way more than tell time, but I would not pay top dollar to get it.
I wonder if Apple will announce a trade program for the very high end watches.

Every single high quality watch in say 5K+ category comes with automatic movements and not with battery powered electronics you can throw away in few year or so because you can't get a firm ware update or it just doesn't sync with your host device. High end watches are investments you can see for the rest of your life and not something you end up throwing away in few years.

They have proved to be investments because wealth has become increasingly concentrated in a smaller percentage of society and that fortunate group has larger buying capacity. Basically all rare and luxury items have increased significantly in price in the last 30 years. From famous paintings, to real estate in coveted locations, the price has gone up. Luxury watches aren't special, they just benefit from this same trend.

And even from a technical perspective the watches are not really all that special. In the $10,000 range I believe all of the movements are still made by Swatch and basically on their assembly line. Maybe at the higher level you get to something that is truely a special custom made complication.

Realistically they probably could have sold the two sport band sizes separately for half the price which makes this feel like more of a cash grab.

Am i missing something here the 38mm 18 carat rose gold edition with white sport case is £8000 in the UK, the 38mm 18 carat rose gold edition with rose grey modern buckle is £13500, correct me if i'm wrong but that means the buckle strap is £5500

idk about you guys but i got my eye on that $17,000 option...gonna sell both my cars and take out a loan, gotta have that sorta gold looking case to show off to my friends.

Finally. Something good to come from having no friends.

I don't need to spend money I don't have on things I don't need to impress people I don't like.:D

From one end of the internet to the other, people are shaming Apple for the pricing of the watch and the fashion focus.

The comment about the 1% now being who Apple serves kind of sums it up.

People called Apple overpriced before. THIS is what overpriced means!

Serious question. Do you actually own a $10,000+ watch?

Follow up serious question. If not, would you actually ever purchase a $10,000+ watch (not just fantasize about, but actually purchase)?

I own a 10k omega speed master, because it has a sense of history and timeless-ness. Its value will only go up over time. 10 years, 20 years from now, I will pass it on to my kids.

Unless apple rolls out some sort of trade in program, the 10k "computer on your wrist" makes little to no sense.

Apple have created a toy to extract cash from the foolish, the vain and the pretentious.

Bravo, Apple!

...said everybody since the Apple II. then the Mac. then the iMac. then the iPod. then the Phone. then the iPad... boy, dont you people ever get tired of being wrong?

it's simple -- it's a device. the device offers value. some people will find the value worth the cost, some people won't.

just like, you know, cars. or phones. or...

with price like this, they could've at least give the Sporty version a saphire glass.. but nooooooo:rolleyes:

Great Keynote, but the pricing of some of these bands are just ludicrous. Disgusting really...

Wow, I'd rate that as probably the most boring keynote ever, had it not been for the MacBook, it would have been a disaster.

Never in a keynote have I heard the presenter almost mumble the pricing, and the room be dead silent, and that included Apple employees

I did not even bother to watch Apple's time wasting. I have some Netflixing to do.

I really liked the Space Black Stainless with the linked bracelet but apparently it's going to cost $1000. Guess I'm going space gray sport with black sport band. $449 for the linked bracelet is absurd. It makes me hopeful for 3rd party bands eventually.

that isn't an absurd price for a high-end watch band. do some homework. (hint: the band takes 9 hours to be machined plus hand polishing...)

Not me. I honestly don't "get" watches & why people spend so much on them. If I wore one, I'd get a cheap one that doesn't look tacky and keeps the correct time.

There are many reasons, one of which is perception... You don't have to agree with this, but it's true...In Corporate America, you are evaluated based on the way you look and how you present yourself. Wearing a nice suit & watch, shows that you pay attention to detail, and have interests outside the norm.

$10k +++ for an iWatch... What a joke. I'll stick to Panerai/Audemars Piguet/Rolex/Omega if i want a real timepiece in that price range.

I don’t get why people mention the Apple Watch Edition all the time. It’s an exclusive luxury item not meant for the ordinary consumer, but for the affluent who don’t mind spending that kind of money with wee thought. Apple has no product of this kind now, it should be disregarded for comparative purposes. Also, the Apple Watch is a smartwatch, you can’t directly compare it to Rolex or Omega. If you’re interested in an exclusive smartwatch, the Apple Watch Edition is currently the only option.

Every single Rolex, Omega, Hublot and Patek Philip comes with in-house built movements. This means the low end 3K Rolex and Omega watches too. Actually more and more Swiss watches are coming up with their own in-house movements. If you've ever seen skeleton watch with few complications you will truly appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making automatic high quality watch. Regarding high complication watches, it's totally different matter and price range.

The buckle is 18 carat gold too.

What interests me more than the materials and bracelets; is the actual watch UX, the processor, the ram; the notifications and how it all works. I can experience the same experience as a £10,000 apple watch for £300ish. Apple sport 42mm for me. I wonder if the edition watch maybe features uprated specs?
