Apple Watch Continues to Dominate With Estimated 1 in 3 Share of Smartwatch Sales Last Quarter

Wearables division takes in $5bn in a quarter. Approx 4 million sales per quarter. And yet there are still people calling it a piddly-ass market, gimmick, failure etc.

In this thread: People who don't understand the basics of finance, thinking they're smarter than Cook, Jobs, Gates etc.

If you are that locked into the Google Ecosystem, you are right, Apple’s devices will never be for you (not intended as a criticism, just an observation).
Once you try to replace all those components with Google services, Apple’s ecosystem just does not add much value.

Well that's not really my point.
If Apple offered their services on other platforms and I had an Android phone, I have the ability to change all Google's default apps to Apples default apps and they'd work just as well and I'd still have the added value of say Android with Apple services.
So just because you have an Android doesn't mean you're locked into Google's ecosystem because you have the choice to use any ecosystem you want and not have to compromise the usability of that ecosystem whereas on Apple devices if you were to use other apps and services you'd have to use "work-arounds" and compromise on features. That's what I'm saying.[/QUOTE]

I work in a hospital, it's amazing how many nurses and doctors I see wearing Apple Watches.

after an extensive research into smart watch and now owning a series 4 44mm, i can see why apple watch are so popular. too bad there is no android app else this would sell alot more

Exactly! Sales would go up! Can’t believe shareholders haven’t ditched Tim.

He has tanked their stock and revenue could be so much higher.

Hope Apple will bring other health features like continuous glucose monitoring- which will be a giant leap. I have seen people switching to iPhone due to AW.

Ah, yes, always have to find some way to spin things to make the AW seem less successful than it really is.

I see them all over the place, and I don't know anyone who owns one who hasn't found it to be one of the best products Apple has made (especially the AW3 and AW4). Just as owners posting here also claim it's a great product.
I don’t know anyone who owns an Apple Watch because most of my family and friends use android. I’m the only one who has one. However I see them around all the time. In fact I’ve seen one in last 5 minutes when I was doing my grocery shopping.

iPhone also had marketshare early on.
Will Wear OS take over in the next few years as wearables become more mainstream and prices hit rock bottom?
Hopefully Apple can bring it's watches down in price (notably the stainless steel models).
Wear OS is dead in the water.

So many people eating crow about the Watch. I love it. And all those hot takes that Apple didn’t know what they were doing with the watch and figured it out later is BS. Go back to the original keynote. The three pillars of Apple Watch were health/fitness, notifications and fashion. All three still exist today.

The Edition was never meant to sell in large quantities. It was Apple playing around with materials and showing existing watch makers what they could do. The link bracelet and milanese loop are as good as any high end watch bands. One of my favorite things about the Watch is how easy it is to swap out bands to fit any occasion. Sure Apple pivoted more towards fitness but that’s what companies do when they see how their products are being used in the real world.

The only angle you could maybe say Apple got wrong was apps but apps are what Apple knows and I think they were trying to avoid Watch being thought of as just a fitness band. There’s lots of places Apple can take the Watch it has a lot of room to grow.

And the funny thing is, they can just make an Android app for it and triple the sales whenever they are in bit of a financial pinch, .

Still very happy with my always on watchface on my Garmin Fenix 3. Maybe one day Apple will have one as well, and a round watch.

Agreed. Whilst the Apple Watch has gotten better over time and now has more features. It’s core functionality has remained the same.

Yeah Android is exactly what the Apple Watch needs

So we can either have less screen space for the same size watch, or a watch that's 50% bigger for the same screen space?

Another great idea. This one belongs with "the let's install Android" on it to make it better suggestion.

Agree. I have the Felix 5X Plus and couldn’t be happier. While I liked my Apple Watch (they are great, especially the series 4), having to charge it every night was a real downer. I run with GPS and music for 90 minutes a day and still only need to charge my Garmin every 5 days or so.

Here in California, it is a BIG hit with the really old.

And AAPL knows that.

They'd be wise to continue their efforts in that area.

It's twice the size and weight of an Apple Watch. Most people are ok with charging every 2-3 days, but would not be ok with a lead anchor hanging off their wrist. Yes its true, Apple Watch does not need to be charged every day.

Actually, that's not possible. The Apple Watch is too bulky. It needs to be round. It's like they just shrunk the original iPhone design down. It's just another solution in search of a problem. What can it do that your smartphone can't? etc.

;)

It is round on the corners......hey you got break the mole.....

For those commenting that "35% of nothing/not much" is still nothing or "not much" -- you really need to do 2 things; First, try to remember that the Apple Watch is NOT the iPhone (yes, I have the Series 4 and can make calls, but still). Second, go research the entire WATCH market. If Apple spun off the Apple Watch as its own company, it would be the largest watch company in the world -- and that includes everything from Timex to Rolex.

I think it is also notable that the wearable market is growing each year as the various products mature. I think that in time the Apple Watch will have a battery that lasts for 3-4 days, offers 3-5 hours of talk time, etc. I also think that 5 years into the future we might have an Apple watch that does not even need a phone to upload software and will be an independent device, so that one can choose to have a separate phone or not.

And, for the "what can the watch do that my phone cannot" -- well, take a pulse for one.

Suggest a candidate for the job who runs a company with results consistently better than Apple's.

Dime a dozen. There are the former CEOs of Intel, GE, Theranos. All are available and have done a bang up job in the past.

If that fails, there are tons of MR forum posters who know a lot more about running a trillion dollar company than Tim Cook or any of his incompetent minions.

iPhone has higher market share than ever.

Just hoping that people have their sarcasm detector turned on and are not taking that list serious. Especially the last one on the list. How she's not in jail is beyond me.

I see lots of people (still) commenting on the fact that the watch is square. I have no idea when the first square faced watch was made, but the first one I personally owned was in the early 1970’s. It’s not new or radical. Honestly, I think most of those complaining about the shape would still be complaining if it was round.

It works well for me and since I’ve owned 3 or 4 square watches before Apple ever had a watch I don’t find the shape strange.
