Seems like they really reduced the number of SKUs available for default configurations when purchasing a watch. It seems like you can't buy a watch with a nylon band out of the box, etc.

Ya just updated the article with bundle info. You pretty much can only buy a new Apple Watch with a Sport Band or Milanese Loop now.

I was hoping for a price drop on Apple Watch bands. It's ridiculous Apple continues to charge $150 for a leather watch band when there are plenty of other options available at a fraction of the cost. ...snip
The problem is self evident. No need for "SMH".
You answered your own quandary as to why there is no "price drop":
I own several Apple watch bands...snip
As long as people keep shelling out the money for Apple watch bands, expect no price drop.

These bands are WAY overpriced. I get all mine from AliExpress and they are just as good. Most of them you can't even tell they're not from Apple.

Finally, getting a Nike band. All the eBay/Amazon knock off ones are horrendous. Orders a Black/Volt for my GF and for myself.

Still can't configure the metal on the bands. Why not? I didn't want the Steel watch so now I'm never going to buy Apple bands that don't match my dark aluminum. How hard could that be to offer? It's like they don't want my money.

I think it's absurd that Apple charges so much for simple watch bands, some cost more than the watch face itself. I don't know if Apple is out of touch with reasonable prices or they're just greedy. Either way, I think I'm just about done with Apple products. Their computers are overpriced and underpowered, not to mention they don't seem to care much about them any longer, and accessories such as watch bands are far too expensive.

If the iPhone 8 (or whatever they call it) doesn't blow me away, I'm likely to switch to android.

One other interesting note from today's releases: Apple has stopped including the more desirable bands with their watches. You now can now only get the stainless steel models with a sport or Milanese band. The nicer leather and link bands now have to be purchased separately. Likewise, the Nike+ models now only come with the all-black or all-white bands. The black/volt band can only be purchased separately.

Seems like a deliberate attempt to make a little extra money by pushing you to buy at least one extra band.

I have a couple apple brand bands and a couple third party. The third party are just as good and much cheaper but I generally just wear the sport since it is by far the most comfortable to me

I'm glad they have added the Nike band to buy separate, I will pick one of those up at my next Apple Store visit :)

I'm shocked it too so long for them to release them separately. They would have made a lot of money doing so from the beginning.

This is true, I have the first gen Apple Watch but I wasn't going to buy the Nike one just for the band but I do run so being able to buy the band separately is great. I just hope the bands are supported going forward, I plan to upgrade to the 3rd generation and hope that the bands I've brought for my first gen also work.

Same exact position. My Series 0 is going strong. Had no plans on upgrading to the Nike Series 2, but really liked the band. Tried the Amazon/eBay ones but they were terrible. I also hope Gen3 offers the same band connector and I'm fairly confident it will. They are constantly releasing new bands.

Yep... they will have to halve the thickness of the watch before the current band attachment mechanism needs to be overhauled, and I can't see that happening any time soon....

For me, I like the Midnight Blue woven Nylon band and the fact that you can now buy the Nike bands directly from Apple!

Only thing I DON'T like is the fact that if you have a Space Grey Apple Watch (like me!!), the Midnight Blue Nylon band ONLY has a silver buckle, which will just look odd with my dark Apple Watch?!

I don't understand why Apple didn't give us a choice for the colour of the buckle.......

Finally standalone nike watch bands. Now whether or not I was to spend $50 on a band o_O

It's pricey no doubt, but if you figure that people were buying he Nike Watch and selling the bands for over 100 on eBay, 50 isn't so bad.

Personally I have yet to find one knockoff silicone band that I couldn't immediately tell wasn't an Apple original. But I also wasn't going to spend 100.00 on a Nike band from eBay. Now... maybe.

I own plenty of OEM and third party bands. I agree the prices and quality are decent for third party, with no real way of visually being able to differentiate. However, Apple's bands are a much higher quality in terms of build with lug connectors and materials used in the bands. (There are some really nice third party bands quality wise, but you pay somewhat more).

For example, the sport bands that I own that are third-party are much thinner and have a different texture to them compared to the Apple OEM bands. Even though the third-party sport bands are plenty capable and work great, they still are not the quality that Apple produces. One just has to make the decision, do they want to purchase OEM or third-party, based on what they want.
