I have a knock off nike band, and I'm really happy with it. I'm not sure I'm willing spend 50 bucks on getting the genuine product when this knock off seems so good.

This of course will kill off the cottage industry of selling the actual nike bands for such a high mark up
Perhaps, but there will be buyers for the SUPER RARE 42mm Nike+ Black/Grey watch band. If you want a genuine 42/Black/Grey Nike band, it'll cost you $400 unless you buy it from someone who already owns one.

I'm literally sitting on a gold mine here. Yay!

I think Apple's straps are insanely priced. But it's helped create a healthy 3rd-party market, so that's good.

Wow $50 for NYLON bands... it probably costs them less than a dollar to make.
I know apple likes a nice profit but $30 at the highest would have been more enticing and people would buy more than one color.
IIRC, the nylon Nato straps for Omega watches run around $170. Apple's bands are expensive, but their prices are not out of line when compared to other high-end watch accessories.

That's why I've yet to get a leather band from Apple. None of the lugs match. That and if I switch from my aluminum series 2 to stainless or ceramic I want them to look good with the bands I've bought. I can't imagine seeing a ceramic series 2 with stainless steel lugs on it.

Don't you like the leather loops? They look good with every model, depending on the color, obviously. Very comfortable, too.

It's ridiculous Apple continues to charge $150 for a leather watch band when there are plenty of other options available at a fraction of the cost.

Apple charges what enough people are willing to pay such that they sell the quantity they want to sell.

Pricing Strategy 101.

If you wish to marvel at ridiculousness, do so towards those who feel it is worth spending hundreds of dollars on a watch band.

Totally agree. I recently paid around $12 for this leather watch band on Amazon, and the fit and quality are every bit as good as the genuine Apple classic (brown) buckle that I also own.
That looks kewl. What's the name of the band please?
[doublepost=1490126997][/doublepost]I wonder if all these bands are going to continue being compatible if they come out with a slimmer/lower profile Apple Watch. Say Serires 3?

As much as I would like to believe you - just no...

I've tried a lot of different Amazon bands and all with great reviews. This is just some of the observations I've had compared to my Apple Classic Buckle:

Stitching sucks and isn't even close to the original in consistency and refinement
The adapters isn't as smooth and great fitting at all
The durability of the leather just isn't there and it quickly starts to show it really isn't real leather or at least real leather all the way through.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Apple all of the sudden is the only great producer of leather in this world, of course not, but the attention to detail is sky high and the quality of the materials great (even the sports bands are MILES ahead of the fake).

If you want great leather bands and don't like Apples offerings, I would suggest a great set of adapters and get a lovely 22 mm. leather strap - stay far far away from the Amazon junk - I've tried and been disappointed with a lot of them, but that's what 10-20 bucks gives you

My nylon Pollen has yet to ship. Shows "preparing".

It ships via FedEx. If you use FedEx delivery tracker, you can see when the label is printed and gives you a delivery date. Apple still says preparing.

Do people really spend all this money on watch bands? Amazon has some perfectly nice metal and leather ones for less than $50.

As a stockholder, I hope they do. For myself I've been happy with the Sport band knockoffs bought on Amazon for around $10. I own three of them now and they've all been fine.

Now what I am hoping to find is a good nylon band with a velcro closure. Apple doesn't make one and the only third party ones I've seen are just as expensive as if they were from Apple. If anybody knows where I can get one of those, lemme know.

OTOH I never understood why a non-matching buckle would bother people as they basically never see the watch body and the buckle at the same time (when wearing the watch). Non-matching lugs, that I understand to be bothersome.
Yes, this. Having a buckle that generally goes with the strap (say silver colored on a light colored band) is fine, since, as you say, it's on the other side of your wrist, but it seems kind of ridiculous that Apple doesn't offer ones with black lugs to accommodate those who bought the space gray or space black watches, especially considering Apple's premium prices. They made a big deal out of fashion - their choice - and everything looking perfect, and then expect those who buy the black(ish) watches to either put up with clashing lugs (not very fashionable), or limit ourselves to sports bands and leather loops (and black metal bands, which weren't offered initially). Kind of annoying.

I think the chances of them changing any time soon are vanishingly low - they didn't adopt an existing standard, they had plenty of time and resources available and designed just what they wanted, and likely took into account future thinner watches when the designed it.

They would have to get the watch to half its current thickness first before they even need to consider changing the strap attachment method

I sure hope you are right.
I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of bands that don't fit the next gen or the one after.

I'm sorry, but IMO you can't compare an Omega watch to an Apple Watch. Besides that, when Omega brought those nato straps people were disappointed in that price and that it should have been at the most $100. These apple ones look like they cost less than a $1 to make vs the omega ones that look much refined.
