Kind of annoying that you have to get anything „Pro“ with Apple now, just to get the redesign, even if u won’t necessarily have the need for half those features
I think there’s a LOT of money some company somewhere is leaving on the table by not just making cases and fitting the Apple electronics into it.

I hope the Pro is not the same as Rugged. I want the big screen, new design and the best features but don’t want it to look like a sport watch!
I’m the opposite! I want a watch that’s able to be banged around everywhere, and has a 2-3 day battery life. But don’t need the extra fancy features.

Is it me or year by year the watch is getting bigger by “mm”? Lol
Both of the Watch models got a little bigger when the Series 4 came out and gave a noticeably bigger screen. That was generally see as a big improvement. This new 47mm watch is a different model added to the other two (41/45mm. Those other two models are not getting bigger. Apple is just adding a new, more expensive top end model.

Wooo! We're finally getting a flat re-design Apple Watch. Last year was a bit of a disappointment. Hopefully, Apple is able to shock the world with AW 8. ⌚️👏
Eh, it's not saying the whole design will be flat (like the current iPhones), just that the screen will be flat. Sides could be just as rounded as they are now. If they want to make it impact resistant, they could go a long ways in that direction simply by having a (strong sapphire covered) screen inset a couple millimeters into the watch, so it has a 1-2mm lip around the outside edge of the screen, so no side impact or edge impact would hit the screen itself - you'd have to have something impact the center of the screen (have it hit by a corner, or a rounded object of some sort).

I'm already looking forward to upgrading my 45mm series 7 if this is true seeking in some TV at work on a large screen less noticeable than my phone will be sweet.
But does it do 4K? You don’t want to have to suffer with some lousy 1024p video! 😂

I think the article is referring just to the display being flat. Will the sides be flat too? I think I would like that. And maybe it wouldn’t look as large on the wrist. Looking forward to seeing this.

This is going to go nowhere unless it has physical buttons and unless they rework their GPS interpolation. For sports, Garmins are vastly better on every metric except style and gizmos.
Except Garmin software is horribly unreliable. Read the Garmin forums for all the complaints about the software.

A larger battery is an obvious update Apple will make if they’re producing a larger version, but it’s not going to provide a week of use between charges. Maybe 48 hours, 72 at most, as they can’t make it be too much without pissing off a lot of existing customers. I have to say that I’m still glad I switched to a Garmin Epix 2, with its 16 day per charge battery life, not to mention its round form factor and more masculine look.

We agree 100%. I was saying maybe the watch fills a different market than they were looking for. It is not a good option for other but there are other watches that work better for them but not for me. Given technology tradeoffs it would be surprising if one device worked for everyone.
Apple is still making the watch that works for you and you are happy with. This is an additional device, aimed at a new market, so why are you talking about "one device working for everyone" when there are two devices? I can't possibly agree with you 100% because your own arguments aren't even consistent with each other. Your personal anecdote of not being in the market Apple is targeting with this new watch seems kind of irrelevant.

I honestly think it's going to be a whole total re-design. Flat-Edge Apple Watch. It may look exactly like this.

If you don’t use a case don’t lie to yourself, the rounded edge iPhones were way more comfortable in your hand. I suspect the flat edge watch would be another step in the wrong directions

I just looked up the best analog sports watches for 2022 and there’s a few that are larger AND more angular than the Apple Watch is proposed to be. It doesn’t appear that flat sides on a watch are going to be a problem at all.

So is the new flat-edge redesign coming only to the Pro model? With the new Watch, Apple will have completed their quest to introduce a “Pro” variant in all their product lineups. A way to squeeze out even more margin for redesigns and new features where the standard models will stay on old designs and last years chips/features. There was a time where there was no “Pro” and the standard line was getting it all. And it’s not like the standard lineup got any cheaper when the “Pro” variants were introduced..

Also, 47mm? Please, please consult your partner or better yet a stylist before purchasing it and beclowning yourself. 47mm is far too big for most peoples wrists and a lot of people are very self unaware.
