I very much intend on buying this, but I still haven't read anything about a more durable/scratch resistant face? The primary reason I have a watch case on my series 6 is because on my series 3 I didn't. When I was doing cable flies one day the cable went across the face of the watch and left a massive scratch across the face of the watch.

47mm is absolutely bonkers. It'll definitely be very functional, but it's gonna be like wearing a dinner plate on your wrist.

I wonder how the PRO and RUGGED parts will be played out exactly. I guess that a MacBook Pro user in Apple‘s mind is someone who needs a real workhorse for film editing etc. An Apple Watch Pro user is an athlete who needs their watch to go through rough conditions, possibly for longer periods, hence battery life.

So why it make the fancy design then? Simple: What Apple is selling to the rest of us, i. e. those who aren‘t actually pro athletes, is the idea of being an athlete. It is a bit like a music shop selling a fine stratocaster to someone who just started playing the guitar.

It is like it always is: Some of us buy what they need, and nothing more, others buy what they want and of those, some make up rational reasons for their purchase which others will (typically rightfully) dispute.

or like using a phablet to make phone calls.... 🤣

I hope the Pro is not the same as Rugged. I want the big screen, new design and the best features but don’t want it to look like a sport watch!
You mean a sport watch like the Nike+ does? Same as all the others with a different band really.

I’m curious about this pricing when Hermes is the most expensive depending on the band chosen, so?!

sounds perfect for my hobbies and I would be totally keen to update my S5, as for example I gave up last winter to track my snowboarding day due to battery life.
But, I have a small wirst (using the small watch already), and a tons of bands (original and not only) that I dont want to give up.
Will likely get a S8 (or maybe keep the S5 for everyday use + Rugged watch only for activities…)

Really? The larger of the two current watches is 45mm. That's a difference of 2mm. That's about 5/64" of an inch. If 47mm is absolutely bonkers, does that mean that the current 45mm model is almost-as-much bonkers?

Interesting. So the standard 8 will be not much different to the 7. Slighter better battery. Maybe a new sensor??? And a few crappy new watch faces. (Watch faces are the biggest shame of Apple. 7 years in and that anaemic selection is all we got. It’s pathetic).

I think the pro is what they’ll be pushing. 47mm. Is that in the same size as a 7 with smaller borders? Or a bigger watch?

Will never buy an Apple Watch again, the resale value is appalling.

£800 watch I’m being offered £150 for a year and a half later that still isn’t sold after 2 months has put me off ever wanting another!

45mm is already freaking huge. I'm a pretty passionate watch nerd and have a bunch in my collection, so i've been down the sizing rabbit hole through much trial and error. I have a fairly average sized wrist and anything over 42mm looks wild on my wrist. My sweet spot, and most people's sweet spot, is 40-42mm.

The fact that people are ok with having a huge screen on their wrist is personal preference. And obviously a larger screen is more functional, but that dial size-to-wrist size ratio is objectively huge and doesn't look half as graceful on a lot of people as they'd like to think. It's like wearing a 2XL t-shirt when you're actually size Medium.

Going from a Series 4 44mm, to a 47mm (how big can that really be?) is a perfect upgrade.

Lets face it, despite the battery, extra sensors and other bits and pieces, it’s still an Apple Watch. A flat screen would totally make it for me. The flat screen on the Garmin is the nicest thing about the look, and I can’t wait to order it in, hopefully just over 10 days and 7 hours - plus keynote. I’ve saving for 12 months for this, and I’m happy to spend it on the top of the line Apple Watch.

BTW, most 47mm watches have massive bezels. If it goes edge to edge, it won’t be that big.

Same here. Never had any durability issues with either my S3 nor S5, except scratching the face.

How many of those big watches have big bezels? And how many are edge to edge?

A 45mm watch with thin bezels and a small lug-to-lug width still looks very large on most people, so I don't get your point.

If you've got a thin wrist, a 45-47mm watch will look big on you, there's no going around that. If it doesn't matter to you, that's totally cool and gives you what is objectively a more usable device, but let's not pretend the Apple Watch and it's wearers can defy physics.

My point was that I have a 44 mm Watch 4, which of course has large-ish bezels and is definitely not big on my wrist. There would be at least 2mm bezels at each diagonal, which if edge to edge a 47mm wouldn’t even be bigger than the Apple Watch 4 in physical size. I’m just spit balling here.

I'm not interested until it reaches at least 100mm.
The Apple Watch would be a day 1 purchase for me *if* the battery life is extended and not merely througha low power mode.
No Apple Watch has ever given more than a single day's usage without needing recharging to last all the way through the next day. There's nothing to indicate that Apple see any problem with this.

The so-called "Apple Watch Pro" will feature a larger 47mm case size, according to a report today from Japanese website Mac Otakara. By comparison, the Apple Watch Series 7 is available in 41mm and 45mm case sizes.

A larger 47mm case size would result in the Apple Watch Pro having a larger display, which could measure in at 1.99 inches diagonally.

The report, citing information received from "reliable sources," also claims the Apple Watch Pro will feature a completely flat display, whereas existing Apple Watch models have slightly curved edges around the display. The flat design could improve the durability of the Apple Watch Pro, which Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported will be a "rugged" model designed for high-impact activities like hiking and extreme sports.

While a 47mm case size is new information, the flat display has been rumored previously. Other features expected for the Apple Watch Pro include a titanium casing, longer battery life, an expanded Low Power Mode, an S8 chip, and more.

Apple is expected to announce the Apple Watch Pro alongside two standard Apple Watch Series 8 models and the iPhone 14 at its September 7 media event. Pricing remains to be seen, but titanium Apple Watch models currently start at $799 in the United States, so it would be reasonable to expect a starting price of around $799 to $999.

I have the latest Apple Watch, and have had several previous versions. I would appreciate a larger screen and thinner if possible.

I honestly think it's going to be a whole total re-design. Flat-Edge Apple Watch. It may look exactly like this.

I hope you’re right! And if they made the edges flat, they could probably keep the dimensions fairly close to the previous model while increasing the screen size. Looking forward to this event.

A larger battery is an obvious update Apple will make if they’re producing a larger version, but it’s not going to provide a week of use between charges. Maybe 48 hours, 72 at most, as they can’t make it be too much without pissing off a lot of existing customers. I have to say that I’m still glad I switched to a Garmin Epix 2, with its 16 day per charge battery life, not to mention its round form factor and more masculine look.
I have a feeling even with all that you’re still going to get the Watch Pro.
