I'm kinda glad they do this. They should adopt this policy for launch days on iPhones and relax it after a few months. Sure it will make certain people who like to buy a few for their family members salty, but it will certainly help those who legitimately want one to get one (instead of those scalpers).

So one appointment to try them on and a separate one to buy it?

And a third to pick it up! This is definitely not the experience I am looking for. I want to go in, try it out and if I like it, walk out with it on my wrist. I get making the appointment since supplies are limited, but creating the process where I need multiple visits? Any experience where the customer walks in and gets excited by the product and has to walk out empty handed should be considered a terrible customer service experience.

Do you have more than one credit card? Set up another Apple ID and buy a 2nd watch if they limit online purchases. Put the 2nd watch in your fiancée's name.

I'm guessing they'll allow at least 2 with online preorders. They know families live in the same house and may use the same credit card and Apple ID.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot. You'd think the limit would be two. Worst case,I'll give the money to a friend who isn't purchasing a watch and have him buy it. We shall see......

It doesn't stop them at all. That's why you see them in line with 10 other "family members" all buying two each. This might slow them down, but not stop by any means. This however does make things more difficult for me. I was planning on surprising my fiancée with one as a wedding gift. Now I'll have to have her or a friend purchase it. ....just another hurdle I suppose.

They haven't said this will prevent you from pre-ordering 2 online or via the Apple Store app. You will not be able to reserve more than 1 for in-store pickup.

As for surprising her, I'd recommend pre-ordering one or both to a friends house and then having them gift wrap them together and bring them to the wedding. Also it hasn't been confirmed yet ( I don't think ) but there was a rumor of custom engraving when ordering online. I'd say a wedding gift is one such occasion that I would think would be apt for such a service.

Congrats btw,

I guess I'm a bit confused on how the reservations will work. So you can only reserve one which is fine with me. But are reservations going to be available on 10th for pick up on the 24th?

Send me $50 via Paypal and you can have my reservation.

Apparently Apple feels the need to take a page from Harley-Davidson's BS "artificial scarcity" model of sales and marketing. I can only assume they understand the mentality of their target demographic.

I never understood why any retailer LIMITs what you can buy. It defeats all logic.

If all a company cares about is it's bottom line TODAY - then sell as many as you can to one person. Say there were 1,000 people in line and 1,000 watches available. If the first person bought all 1,000 watches, Apple could close the doors, shut down for the day and save money by sending all the employees home. Apple as a CORPORATION _WINS_ that day.

But for the 999 customers who were 'screwed', they feel bitter, alienated, and might not buy your products in the future. Another way to put it, Apple might have won the BATTLE day 1, but they lose the WAR.

Now this pisses me off! I was going to buy two stainless steel models and surprise my fiancée with one as a wedding gift. Now I'll need to wake her up at 12:am and have her purchase it (with the money I give her of course) This is so stupid.
This was my first reaction. What about husbands/wives buying a matching pair for their significant other? Wrong move, Apple.

2 is probably the right number to allow... but Apple is also watching these boards and seeing many people say they're going to buy 2 watches with 2 different sizes, and just return the one they don't like.

Apple loses money when this happens. Apple doesn't want to lose money. They'll still sell out.

Apple Watch Reservations Will Be Limited to One Per Customer

Why are some people confused? Where has it said that there will be NO reservations? It doesn't. It's limited to one watch per customer (which is fine by the way as sales will be very limited). The only thing we don't know is when reservations will go live. I'd of though this Friday along with pre-orders.

There's nothing confusing here.

It doesn't though because it stops scalpers buying up the product and selling for more which is not good business for Apple.

How so, they still sell the SAME PRODUCT FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY? It is no difference to Apple.

----------

As a retailer would you rather have one customer who bought 1,000 watches and was very happy, or 1,000 customers who each bought one watch and were very happy?

Well, If you have enough inventory, the guy that bought a 1000 watches is going to lose his rear end. The problem is that Apple wants the free hype but under manufacturing and creating shortages on purpose.

So now there will be even longer lines of only foreigners paid off to stand there and get one watch each??? Or anarchy when Apple store employees refuse them all?

It does make a difference to Apple, because it degrades the experience for customers who genuinely want to buy and use the product.

I for one am very glad for the measures to stop scalpers. I queued up outside of an Apple Store on the iPhone 6 launch date, and 90% of the queue were scalpers who would let more of their families in, artificially extending the line.

I ended up giving up waiting in queue, even though I waited overnight, when I realized the queue was much longer than it looked.

It was, unequivocally, a terrible user experience.

Make a reservation... Apple couldn't even give me one!

Apple stop make things we don't want and start fixing the OSes!!!

You could blame Apple for not producing enough products consistently at every launch. Its a marketing gimmick at the expense of customers. If there was enough product, there would be NO scalpers.

Just read a review of the Sony Smartwatch 3: 2-3 days per charge, waterproof (IP68), screen always on (LCD, with backlight coming on when raised), integrated GPS and WiFi. This is what I was looking for from Apple, and why I wont be in any lines or online until some future iteration.

Who knows?

There's a lot of conflicting information coming out which makes it seem like this is going to be Apple's most complicated product launch so far.

I wish Apple would hurry and clear up this mess.

Is it a mess for people that don't follow rumor sites?

Why do you need an Apple ID at all when using the Apple Store?

Simply use 'Guest Checkout'.

Oh.... I didn't know that. I thought you had to be signed in with your ID when using the Apple Store app. You're saying,do it from their website. Gotcha!

Exactly! And it has already been 'officially' answered. On the 10th for US, and on the 25th for the rest of the world. Source: Apple ireserve source code.
