Planned on ordering 2 (me and wife) and picking them up in store that evening after work. Now it looks like I'll have to order 2 for home delivery and take a sick day to be there.

Thanks Apple.

Supply is so short they are selling them half off to employees.

One of the big points of the Apple Watch is how you can send heartbeats and other more intimate communications with your partner. How are you supposed to do that when you can only get one? I myself wasn't seriously considering getting an Apple Watch, but my wife thinks she wants one, and some of those special features were almost enough to "justify" me getting one too. But this kills that.

Why does it "kill" that? You can purchase one watch. And your wife can purchase one watch. It appears you would rather complain than scratch your head for a second and find an easy solution. Or... have them delivered to your home. Or... wait a till the initial rush has settled down and then buy. Think about why Apple might doing this. It's not about "killing" your purchase.

Apple are playing standard artificial scarcity psych games to drive up demand. Baaaahhh sheeple!

Despite best planning it is almost impossible to predict which models will sell best, how many etc.etc.

That is why pre-orders are helpful in getting a feel for what they actually have to produce. It also enables adjustments in production.

The amount of people who will want this watch is yet to be determined, but if it is in the millions (which I expect) they can't be produced and brought to the US overnight.

Especially given the many variations one can order these watches in.

There is also no sales history to figure out what model should be stocked in stores.

The limit does not create an artificial demand. The demand is already there
by a combination of "I'll buy all Apple products" followers and impatient people with too much money who can't resist status symbols etc.

What Apple is doing here is good. They want the watch on their customers wrists and not some scalpers to make the product scarce and make money of the impatient. There will be some of that anyway, but it's now harder to do so.

Of those who buy immediately not everybody is knowledgeable enough to know that one should never buy an Apple First Generation product of anything.

This watch will get better over time and there is a good chance that developers will come up with enough ideas to make this worth buying.

For right now I'll wait and "watch" .

Being of an older generation I have enough patience to always wait until there is plenty of supply of any product and a verdict of its usefulness.

That being said, my girlfriend wants a light blue sport NOW! and will not be talked out of it by me no matter what I say.

She keeps asking for the dates and if I am at all successful with any argument , I'll be able to get her to wait until we get to a store to at least look at one and try it on, instead of buying sight unseen.

As always women win!

I feel your pain LOL.

There aren't enough employees to impact the availability, plus it is a nice perk if you are in Apple employee.

Some of these "Employee watches" will be sold on the open market, you know that, right?

Now this pisses me off! I was going to buy two stainless steel models and surprise my fiancée with one as a wedding gift. Now I'll need to wake her up at 12:am and have her purchase it (with the money I give her of course) This is so stupid.

Celebrate your love with a product with an 18 mos useful life!

It's not just about losing money-- it's about being fair to customers. I don't want to miss out on getting a watch on launch day because a a few hundred people in my area wanted to buy two devices just to return one.

I really think this about limiting returns.

Demand for these devices is going to be INSANE. I'm praying every single hour of every day I am one of the lucky ones to be wearing Apple Watch on launch day.

All of these app updates with Apple Watch support is really teasing what is going to be an incredible device from day one.

I'm kinda glad they do this. They should adopt this policy for launch days on iPhones and relax it after a few months. Sure it will make certain people who like to buy a few for their family members salty, but it will certainly help those who legitimately want one to get one (instead of those scalpers).

The problem with this is that there are a number of us on an unlimited data plan with Verizon, who have to pay full retail for our phones to keep the plan. Apple doesn't allow buying full-price on their website for launch day delivery. I've always had to queue up on launch day in order to get one.

It's okay by me if they redirect everyone to order online for an iPhone, as long as they make the online system so that it meets the needs of their customers.

Does anyone know when our debit/credit cards get charged when we make a reservation? I believe it'd be the day we pick it up since we're only "reserving" the watch and not purchasing it. Because they can cancel the order of we don't pick it up by the allotted time. I'd assume it'd be difficult for Apple to refund everyone who doesn't show up to pick up their Watch. Any clarification on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Reservations =/= Watches

Doesn't this say one reservation per person and then say your item(s)? Where does it say you can only buy one watch?

I gotta say, while this is partially a good idea to keep the scalpers at bay, it does make it more complicated and inconvenient for a legitimate buyer to purchase two of them.

I'm sure lots of people plan to buy one for themselves and one for their husband/wife, girlfriend/boyfriend.

To now require those people to make separate reservations is not going to create a good experience for them.

There has to be some sort of compromise. Perhaps allow each customer to reserve two?

Who the hell sleeps at 12 am? :D

Apple Watch Reservations Will Be Limited to One Per Customer

Exactly!!! I agree with you 100%!!!!

Sorry for double post

Wait. Let me get this straight. Tim Cook's political cronies are fighting voter ID laws in every state that has them but he's going to demand you have a government-issued ID to buy one of his stupid watches.

You better be careful, Tim, or I'm gonna tattle on you to Starbuck's CEO!

Time to stop all those customers in their tracks.

Requiring a government issued ID to buy a gadget ??? It's like Apple doesn't want to sell their product.

They're losing it.

Apple wants to sell their product. They are just trying to be more selective about who they're selling their product to.

It's going to be very interesting to see if this plan works out for them, or backfires.

Sucks, I had a similar plan. Especially since such a large part of the watch interactions require another person having a watch too. Sometimes us excited early adopters need to make that second purchase ourselves.

Maybe you have a friend who has no intent to buy the watch that can buy it for you? They'll have to be up at midnight to do it, but my buddy would do it for a case of beer. :D

EDIT: The more I think about it, the more it bothers me. His and her's WATCH is such a common thing, it's crazy they're preventing a his and her's purchase.

More than likely the charge will immediately be pending and the funds will be put on hold. (So if your credit limit is 5k, and you reserve/buy a 1k watch, you'll only have access to 4k of credit until the watch is settled either way). The purcahse won't post to your account until it ships, or picked up in store. If you cancel or just don't pick it up, the funds are released from the hold.

I am the tech person in the family. I do all the tech testing and buying. If I can't, just me, buy two, then two won't get purchased. That's just how it works. I suspect a lot of families work this way.

The scalping reasoning is debunked. The limited quantity blah is fine, but they specifically marketed the special two person features. And then made it hard to buy two at a time. Doesn't make sense.

The more I think about it, the more this 1 per customer thing bothers me. It seems that a watch is THE ideal "his and her" gift or purchase.

I'm not a big watch person, but when I think of his and her's anything, it's a watch! It shouldn't be more difficult to buy two of these than two iPads on launch.

Now they made it extremely inconvenient to do so, and at the same time eerily intrusive by requiring my ID for my one. Yikes! Yes, I know Apple isn't forcing me to buy anything. I just want to easily buy a couple at the store!

EDIT: In fairness, I originally hoped to buy a 38mm and 42mm watch, and returning the one I didn't want. This helps fight that. But in the end, I decided I wanted the 42 for myself and my gf wanted the 38.
