make the 42mm $200 and I buy one for every single person in my family for christmas.
more than that, I'll pass. already have the whole apple product line, don't feel like paying an extra $400 every year to have the time on my wrist.

So who's taking bets on year-end sales? When I went back to read the forecasts of 30 million sold in a single year I didn't think it was close to possible. Looking at these numbers, 30 million seems easily doable for the Apple watch 2 as they appear to be heading for ~20million sold in 2015
Unless they do something to make the second gen worth getting to the masses I doubt it. Most of their market will have already owned the first gen and how many are going to instantly upgrade?

Fitbit outsells Apple Watch? And something called Xiaomi equals Apple. Wow.
Well, they're comparing Apple Watch sales to other fitness/activity bands, not smart watches; it's a bit misleading, but since the Apple Watch is also advertised as a fitness device, there you go.

Interesting sales figures.

Girlfriend really wanted Apple Watch for her training sessions so bought one, I never saw the need at all and didn't see the point. After 5/6 weeks g/f decided AW was useless for her training and I got the AW and she got a Fitbit Surge. FS has proved excellent for her training and I wouldn't be without AW now so win/win for us and an honourable draw between Fitbit/Apple in this household.

It would have to be something special to make me upgrade. I'm OK with mine but I recommend my friends who ask not to bother at the moment, it doesn't do enough to justify the price

If there is, that must be at least 30% longer battery life

That is hilarious math. You do a whole bunch of what-ifs, pull numbers out of every orifice you have, and come with a result that would require selling half as many watches as the iPhones. You really expect a product "in its infant stages", will sell 1 to every other iPhone owner? 100 million people a year buying watches?

Damn that kool-aid is getting strong.

Not as hilarious as your math saying Apple watch advertising this year was over $1.5 billion. Apple spent a total of $1.2 billion in advertising FOR THE ENTIRE COMPANY in 2014.

My 5 year estimate of 100 million units is very aggressive. But even if they only reach 50 million that is still $20 billion in sales. That's about the same as iPad/Mac.

Crazy how the Mi Band is only $15. Definitely an interesting device.

If all you use it for is to tell time, then $200 is too much.

Still an uninspiring device in its first revision, but I'm happy about the sales success. That will bring us a better second revision.

I think most of them are spent on iPhone and the watch

Apple Music also had a ton of ads.
iPad Pro also a ton of ads.
iPhone by far has the most ads, say at least 3x more than Watch.

Watch advertising is probably only 20-30% of total advertising.
Last year Apple spent $1.2 billion.
So about $300 million on Watch advertising for the year.

What a ridiculous request.

At $200 for the 42mm Apple would be losing money on every unit they sell.

And if you only use it for time you are better off buying a $10 digital watch. And who says you need to buy one every year? I use my Watch for activity tracking, heart rate monitoring, and a bit of sleep monitoring. That alone is worth the $250 price tag. That alone will pay 100x more with less doctor bills and less flabby stomach.

I also use it to control AppleMusic in my car.
Use it so I don't every miss a notification/text.
Use it for ApplePay, checking into hotels, boarding pass, quick sports scores, stock ticker, ect.

I bought the SS Model upon its release.

An interesting product, I tried to like it but after a few weeks it lost its luster, didn't do anything to earn its place on my wrist so I returned it.

In fairness I have a large selection of gorgeous handmade luxury Swiss Chronographs. By comparison Apple looks cheap, plain, and just too annoying.

I don't need notifications, I'm organized and not too lazy to take my iPhone out of my pocket to see its highly useful 5.5" display.

:D
The only difference between us , I am hugely unorganized

Funny, that. I think Apple Watch made all analogue watches look very, very old, overnight. And to say the SS Apple Watch looks "cheap" is just stupid. You may say it looks "plain" or "simple", if you must. But on the other hand, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, you know. That's the difference, to me, in a nutshell. Your "chronographs" are poseurs; despite their complicated exterior screaming "look at me", they only have very few, very simple functions. The Apple Watch is understated, it looks like the simplest object, but does so much more. And up close, the materials and finish are very beautiful, making the whole object, in a (ivesian) word, essential.
