I have the better SS watch and think it was priced very fairly. I'm surprised a basher/hater would wear an overpriced apple product. Isn't that being hypocritical?

"Basher/hater"? Did you even read the second sentence of my post?

Here, I'll hold your hand for you:

I like it more than I thought I'd have liked one, and I anticipate my appreciation of it growing more.

Was three sentences too much to tackle?

Oh my, apparently I've posted an opinion that's far too honest and personal.
Having hurt your feelings, I apologize.

Please tell me which part of my reply showed that you "hurt my feelings". Because you didn't. You just expressed an opinion that is diametrically opposed to my own, nothing more, nothing less. Maybe your feelings are hurt?

Yeah, I am waiting for V2 or maybe V3. I want to track swimming, so waterproof is a must and hopefully apps to do that.
I'm a semi-pro athlete, SUUNTO is my Active Fitness Watch of Choice over the last ten years.

Fitbit outsells Apple Watch? And something called Xiaomi equals Apple. Wow.

It looks like they just dumped Apple in with fitness trackers...even if you back Apple out of it, it's fascinating to see that Fitbit is kicking Garmin's butt. But Fitbit has a device for just about every price point, and you can buy them just about everywhere short of a Quick Check, so it's not too shocking that they're the market leader among fitness devices.

There's always going to be a market for a cheaper, more fitness focused type device than a smartwatch. And Fitbit is probably the only one who's going to survive the inevitable carnage due to the sheer size of their marketshare.

First Apple product I've ever purchased and not just been blown away by. Returned it on day 13, bought a Fitbit, which did all the things I actually wanted to use it for. The "digital crown" is a mistake and seems designed by someone who's never actually worn a watch before and requires weird, unnatural arm configurations to use. I think Samsung's current "bezel" method makes a lot more sense. Hopefully Apple sees sense on this.

Also, shock proof and water proof for the sport please.

So basically, you paid $100 more for an Watch instead of a Fitbit... to do the same thing? Nice way to prove the point of the poster you quoted o_O

can you see activity data on Fitbit without a phone?
can Fitbit track sleep patterns?
What kind of App support does fitbit have?

I'm sorry but the Watch is several steps above a fitbit

I had almost decided to give my mum my Apple Watch for X-Mas as I wasn't feeling the need or desire for it anymore. But before I reset it and wrapped it up, I decided to go a few days w/o wearing it first. I made it two days before having withdrawal symptoms. It's now snuggly back on my arm :)

Sorry, mum.

If you have not seen it yet check out the Tag Heuer Connected watch. Stunning and you don't need your phone with you for it to work. It makes the Apple Watch look like a brick.

That's gorgeous but looks to be for most grown men or large wristed women only. That's why I'm so loyal to Apple. They didn't forget people with small wrists or lefties. I'm a lefty and petite. I'd have been willing to try other smart watches but they just didn't want to make any for me.

Shame on you! :p Your post made me lol. I will neither confirm nor deny that I would so such a thing to my own mom if I were in that situation. ;)

After bashing it for a while , I actually went out and bought one . Hated it for the first week , now I don't take it off ever. And I have a watch collection I adore

I wear a diff watch every day, so the Apple watch isn't for me. I bought one as a gift for a cousin, and he loves it. I still think the killer apps are coming in the next year or so, and those will make you enjoy it even more....

This is perhaps the dumbest marketing stunt in history. Buy a $1500 Android Wear watch (no, thanks) and when it becomes outdated, pay us another $1500 and we'll give you a mechanical watch instead. Which begs the questions:

  1. Why buy Tag Heuer's smartwatch in the first place? And,
  2. I found no less than 20 automatic Tag Heuer watches in an informal survey of macys.com for less than $3000.

Great deal, TH.

I also recently got one even though I haven't worn a watch for a number of years. I like it and probably just like with you, it only comes off my wrist when I go to bed.

1) Depends on model. Lowest models, no - just a 5-LED progress bar.
2) Yes, and the battery lasts 5 days. I don't know how AW owners are tracking sleep while charging.
3) What kind of App Support does it need? I keep reading here, and elsewhere, how the AW is so much more than a fitness tracker and shouldn't be compared to Fitbit, yet often in the same post this is followed by descriptions of how its health tracking "changed lives". At least the iPhone Fitbit app. provides a one-stop shop for stats, goals, exercise, and caloric intake.

The AW applications seem to be slow loading and running, based on what people are writing. What value does that really bring?

I have a Garmin Vivosmart for now. Music control, waterproof, 5-day battery, phone notifications, touchscreen/data display. I would only consider sacrificing battery life of this device for GPS capability, hopefully in the next AW.

Yes you can see activity data on a fitbit without a phone. Fitbit Zip and Fitbit One (the clip on Fitbits) have screens, as do the Charge, Charge HR and the Surge. The only Fitbit you can't see data on is the Flex.

Fitbit tracks sleep patterns.

Fitbit is compatible with a number of other fitness apps, and syncs with Runkeeper.

The thing is, Fitbit isn't the same thing as the Apple Watch...an Apple Watch does 90% of what a Fitbit does (Fitbit probably still has an edge in sleep tracking) while a Fitbit isn't intended to do what an Apple Watch does. But not everyone wants a smartwatch. My wife loves her iPhone, but she has a Fitbit Charge because all she wants is her fitness data. We bought it for $90 on a Black Friday sale as an upgrade from her Fitbit Flex.

I would say that comparing an Apple Watch to a Fitbit is sort of like comparing a Tesla to a Civic/Camry. Both get you from point a to point b. Both are cars. One is flashy and loaded with a ton of new technology, and has lots of cool upgrades and other options. One is just a car. Chances are, the audience for the Tesla isn't the audience for a plain sedan. But that doesn't mean both aren't successful.

That's probably the closest way to compare Apple Watch and Fitbit...they're similar devices, but they aren't competing with each other, because the person who wants a $100 fitness tool isn't buying a smartwatch, and the person who wants a smartwatch wants more features.

I was going to wait for gen 2 but after using my iPhone with a Android Wear watch that I picked up last year I just got tired of charging the thing every night. And I find it more useful just to whip my 6s due to it's smaller size. If I use my Nexus 6 as a daily driver I could see the watch being useful because that thing is a tank. Maybe it's more useful for iPhone Plus owners.

Yes, you can see activity data on the Fitbit without the phone.
The Fitbit does track sleep patterns.
The Fitbit has the Fitbit app which also helps you see activity over time.

I am surprised that Samsung Gear doesn't even rate a mention in the list or in the discussions here. With all their advertising spend, and the popularity of the S6, I would have expected better.
And whatever happened to Microsoft's offering? I've never seen it advertised here (might be different in the US) and frankly never seen it in stores. Also who has a Microsoft phone? Unfkrtunate, seemed interesting, both products are missed opportunities. What the hell is MS doing?
Not at all surprised Fitbit is first, it is a dedicated fitness tracker at a much lower price point that sports people won't feel they have to worry they might scratch or lose or get wet. It seems very rugged. Whereas something like the Apple Watch is a different category, more of a fashion accessory with casual fitness tracking, perhaps good for people who do some casual fitness like jogging before work. A simplification true, but the Apple Watch is very much positioned that way.
While I used to wear digital watches in the 80s and 90s, and the idea of a smart watch appeals to me, it is overpriced for my needs and I'm not in the least interested in Fashion. I'd be afraid of looking like a poser, showing off expensive jewellery. That in my world is crass. Showing off wealth, especially when you don't have it, is not cool. I love my iPhone 5, bought 2nd hand so I could afford it, but it is not on display or used to show off. It is functional and a logical extension as a Mac user.

Nice flashy ad. Not my thing. Funny, the ad lost me when it swung around and it showed the "Intel Inside" logo. Lol. Contrast of positioning. Intel in mobile is low-end and all their advertising with their logo and sound in the past has focused on cheap fast power hungry desktop PCs. Intel to me has associations of cheap Dell PCs with garish Intel Inside stickers all over it. Not at all associated with high fashion. $Aud2000? Wow. Cheap compared to the Gold Apple Watch to be sure, but for a smart watch, pricey. I know high-end mechanical watches go for that sort of prices, but a smart watch with an Intel processor...

The Fitbit has a crap screen.
The Fitbit does not have strong app support like the Watch.
The Fitbit does not participate in research trials.

I'm sorry but the Apple Watch blows away fitbit in the health/fitness

You can get AppleWatch Sport for $250. Don't see how that's 'showing off' your wealth

Well, they're comparing Apple Watch sales to other fitness/activity bands, not smart watches; it's a bit misleading, but since the Apple Watch is also advertised as a fitness device, there you go.
Why is it misleading? I have seen many here saying that it's very useful for activity tracking. And I don't think many are buying for any other purpose. So I think the comparison is pretty much justified. But what you can say is that Fitbit costs half of Apple watch.
