...and since I’m generally healthy I wonder if constantly monitoring things would actually just make me more paranoid.

I used to think the same thing, but if you're healthy already, you probably won't waste much time constantly monitoring things. Maybe more than normal at first, but I'm sure you'd just lose interest after a while.

You will find that most people who already use health and fitness wearables (like the Apple Watch) are also healthy. They don't use it because they are unhealthy. Monitoring your health is not a bad thing. Some people may discover things about their health that if they did not use the Apple Watch, wouldn't have... or it would have been too late. I don't think monitoring your health does make you paranoid. It's better knowing then not knowing.

I sort of disagree. I needed to lose a bunch of weight and get in shape and my Apple Watch was my motivator, as odd as it sounds. I was able to blend technology with getting in better shape and losing weight which actually worked beautifully. I think if I didn't have the AW to monitor my workouts and make me try harder each day to close my rings, I might have lost interest.

For $800 dollars i would rather have them bring back the more durable ceramic model.

Interesting. Well, that also apply to many people. But this is based on my own observations On the gym where I go, most people that have Apple Watch are in a perfect shape and look perfectly healthy. Same with the ones I see randomly out and about (with exceptions every now and then) It is great that you have managed all these changes but I think many people use it because they want to monitor their calories, exercise and heart, even though they may be healthy.

I am the same. Love the watch, starting to dislike the iPhone.
Apple had a similar response when they moved away from iPod and toward iPhone. The only difference here is that the Watch still relies heavily on the phone even when its cellular plan is activated.

I think on the other hand the bigger phones make more sense in that scenario. You can keep your bigger phone put away when you are mostly interacting with your watch. Then use the big screen when it is warranted. I was a big proponent of the SE, now that I have the Xs I couldnt see myself going smaller. I really think this is the perfect size for the vast majority of people. Small enough to use with one hand, but the screen is nice and big.

I see merit in both extremes :p

What you said makes sense. Se does too tho since it disappears in your pocket and feels like you’re living the watch , phone free untethered lifestyle, even without cellular watch.

Same here. Not that I dislike the iPhone - I mean, it’s a great product - but I am far less excited about it. I think that the X hit the spot for me as I don’t feel any need or desire to upgrade.

If Apple allows the watch on other platforms their iPhone sales would drop. There’s no doubt people buying iPhones or not considering switching to Android because they don’t wanna lose their watch.

So yeah they’ll sell more watches for $499 but lose sales of iPhones for $999+ which may also have higher margins.

And if iPhone sales drop, a whole bunch of negative side effects can happen.

It would be a very short sighted move.

On an unrelated note, I love my S4 stainless gold. Looks gorgeous and how instant everything is finally makes the watch useful versus just taking the phone out to see something or do something.

Oh and a pro tip: the new info graphic faces with many complications make good launchers. You can use some complication spaces to put short cuts to music or workout app and not deal with the list or grid view at all.

Last year AW persuaded me to "close my rings" every single day. Great challenge & motivator. Led to significant improvement in heart efficiency.

...though did quit on 1/1 from mental burnout (after 365 straight days). Heart efficiency dropped. Watch S0 finally died (wasn't completely waterproof); now with S4 will likely pick back up exercising.

I thought about buying the Apple Watch solely for monitoring my heart rate during the gym because I have target heart rate goals when I'm working out. That's how calories are burned. I heard the sensors are great for it although for weight lifting not so much. However at $400+, my friend advised against wearing it solely for the gym.

I am still Apple Watch-less for now, and I'm hoping that Apple puts something out that competes against the $150-200 segments. Very doubtful given their target demographic, but one can hope.

Apart from obviously selling more iPhones or keeping people on iPhone, I fail to see why a watch's paired device had to be an iPhone and couldn't be an iPad. Even more so now with cellular on the watch (despite the iPad also having the cellular option)

Always puzzled me, back to the S0 days.

You have attributed my nick to a post I did not make. Weird.

Many people have used Jawbone and other fitness trackers for fitness goals. I don't think you "needed" the Apple Watch, but at least you were motivated by it to achieve your fitness goals. I think gamification encourages people to work out, but at the same time once you get into a routine, you will be interested with or without the watch because you will feel better after working out.

Never really understood why people are bothered with the dot, or even the ring.
Dot was a bit garish, not quite matching the rest of the design. Ring is much better. Better if nothing, but Apple has an interest in people signalling use of the cellular version; I'll look for the dot/ring out of curiosity.

The new Apple Watch just might get me to switch back to the iPhone, despite the exorbitant pricing. Which is precisely why they don’t allow it to work with android.

My wife didn’t know that it has a cellular function. She was immediately interested. When she’s out of the house juggling 3 little ones at Costco, dance practice, the children’s library, driving, etc it can be troublesome to have to fish her phone out of her purse.

Why not pick up a used S1 or S2 to try it out. There are bargains to be had at the moment with lots of people upgrading to the S4.

That's a great point. My friend also recommended I take a look at a S3 even though it's more expensive than a S1/S2. I think historically from a buying technology pov, I rarely if ever buy something that is 2 or more generations behind the current. I blame myself for wanting the latest and greatest. The watch is a nice to have for me, but not a must have.

I've just picked up a used S3. They fetch a bit more than the older models but I've still seen some really good deals.

I was chatting to someone at work last week who thought the same, they didn't want the iPhone but needed it for the watch.

The Apple watch would sell like hotcakes if it could be paired with android.

Apple the company that likes to think it is saving the world, will let users use other OSs only when it suits them.
It would be great for a device that detects falls and afib could be sold to the masses without the need for an iPhone

But it is selling like hot cakes without Android.

Thanks for your 2 cents. I will re-think this again. With Apple products, I am consistently weighing the pros/cons.

It would sell more if you can pair it with Android as well. No reason for Apple to do that though. They need to extend the produce lifespan so they can slowly crawl to this point someday.

The supply constraints are kinda pissin me off i had to order the watch a week after launch and over that time the delivery date slipped from oct 15 to oct 19 thats quite the late delivery date in fact they havent even charged my card even tho i ordered it on sept 21. i think im going to die of hype

Sounds like you could really use a heart monitor.
