I stick to my S4 for another year, Always on display is nice but we already have that for the past two models and i am still not fussed to buy a new iWatch, i prefer to wait for a blood/glucose meter sensor and some other health related tracking tech.

Apple trying to sell us on larger calculator buttons on a watch.

I’m disappointed that the 7 continues on with only minor updates, as I was hoping to have a good reason to upgrade from my 5. It really seems like Apple must be hitting some hurdles in doing any kind of significant changes to the Watch, given the 5 was effectively a slightly improved 4, and the 6 was a barely upgraded 5. That makes the 7 effectively a 4SSS. I would have been fine with the same internals if they offered a different case design, or even for Apple to move past this non-sensical focus on maintaining the rectangular shape and offer a round Watch.

What do you want, a massaging function? A cup holder? Flames on the side?

Battery life is still bad. I really don't understand this apple watch hype.
That is actually part of why I am upgrading from my series 6. I want the ability to charge it back up faster so I can use the features the watch has that drain it so blasted fast when you actually try to use them. It’s a refinement of the Watch I like but don’t quite love. If it’s going to sit on my wrist for a few years, I want to reduce some points of frustration. I suppose I could and should wait for next year’s model but if they add more sensors it’s going to be a redesign that is likely in need of more refinement the following year. I want to pick a plateau and stick to it awhile as I did for my past Apple watches. And I actually also liked and wanted the Starlight color.

This was a great time to come into the Watch ecosystem, so the wife took the plunge on a Product Red Series 7.

I like the fact that this is a refined version of the 6, which was already VERY compelling.

She almost got the 6 instead at a discount, but we thought the larger screen and fast charging was worth the difference, and with my Veteran's discount it was extremely reasonable.

I on the other hand, would not really use the features of the Watch just yet. I barely use my iPhone as it is. By the time I want one, a refurb 6 or 5 or SE should be more than fine for my VERY basic needs.

Reactions: the future
Did apple finally allowing more than measly 3GB storage allowance for music? I can only put 45 songs on it so needs to be very picky. Back in watchOS 5 till 7 I think, I could easily fill the entire 16GB Apple Watch with music that I could listen while running outside. Now it’s just pathetic. What else those storage space are for? Photos don’t take up much storage either, and Apple Watch apps are very small anyways.

Aaaaand… of course there’s nothing much noticeable from this generation to Apple Watch series 6 cause there is none. Heck, I’d say only series 3 or below users worth upgrading to 7 cause screen is MUCH larger plus a plethora of new features. My series 4 does enough of what I want and this generation Apple Watch doesn’t have redesign and body temperature sensor, so not as appealing as I thought it would be.

This year's review cycle has taught me that I really only want reviewers to compare previous models more than 12 months old. I don't care how the Series 7 compares to Series 6. Tell me why I, a series 3,4,5 owner should upgrade? Same for the iPhones 13. Tell me why the 2-3 year old model will be better suited upgraded.

Because, if I'm being more cynical....of course the series 7 isn't worth upgrading from a series 6. This isn't Apple's target anyway. They want series 3 and 4 owners to upgrade. so what's better from a series 3 to a 7? Can a professional reviewer lay that out?

well over the 50% of the reviews listed went into heavy detail showing specifically how the upgrade would be as a Series 4 and earlier user. that literally do exactly what you ask.

What exactly are you waiting for?

I think it's a pretty perfect design with the only real improvements I'd like to see being better WiFi and improved health sensors. I disagree with the round watch, it makes sense when you have dials displaying time but it doesn't offer something above a square watch face when you have a digital display.

I completely agree. People don't generally upgrade their Apple Watches yearly, so to pit it against the 6 and claim it isn't a massive upgrade is bizarre.

And also, as a S4 owner, I find it odd that a reviewer (The Verge) would say anyone with an older model shouldn't be compelled to upgrade. That's simply...not true. I'm getting all the features from the 5 and 6, plus the larger screen and faster charging from the 7. That is a compelling upgrade.

I feel like these reviews sometimes look for a way to knock the product if there aren't enough new, exciting features. That doesn't make the product bad, it still makes it an upgrade from the generation before.

Upgrading from the Series 4. Figured the bigger screen, faster charging, new battery and all the changes such as AOD from 5 and 6 will make the 7 worth it from the 4.

Apple does the bare minimum in 2021, again. Both iPhone and Apple Watch releases are hardly upgrades at all.
Why do they even bother to invest all those resources. Word on the street is they are focused on next year, revamping the phone line, at least...

So true - all the reviewers say exactly the same thing. Of course last year's buyers won't wanna buy this year. Idiots.

meh. I’ll wait till the Apple Watch 10. Who knows. Perhaps by then we’re get 28 hours of battery life. Lol one can hope?:) I’ll hold onto my Apple Watch 6.

I have a S6 and bought the S7

Me too, I'm picking mine up on Friday. Then again, if I was intending to remain a one watch person I wouldn't have bought an S7.

I already have a black S6 and have been wanting another finish (SS gold) to go with it for a while now so my choice was do I stick with the one watch for another year until I see what the 2022 upgrade delivers or do I add a gold finish now? I chose the latter. I'm under no illusions that my new watch is going to feel significantly different to my current S6 but I will be happy to have a second colour option in my collection now, or at least I will have on Friday.

My only slight nervousness is that if I now buy a whole set of extra bands/straps that I think go best with the gold finish am I doubling my investment in watch straps only to see a radical redesign next year make them all obsolete? That might temper my new accessory purchases somewhat over the next 12 months although I've already got my first new strap on the way from BandWerk hopefully arriving in time for Friday.
