What exactly are you waiting for?

I think it's a pretty perfect design with the only real improvements I'd like to see being better WiFi and improved health sensors. I disagree with the round watch, it makes sense when you have dials displaying time but it doesn't offer something above a square watch face when you have a digital display.
Specifically, I was hoping for a different form factor, something more like a traditional watch case. It doesn’t have to be just flat edged sides, but could be a stepped design, like what many watch cases have. Improvements in battery life, chip performance would be nice and I’d really prefer to have a flat lens (like what I’ve had with my 15+ year old Seiko Automatic).

The thing with round vs rectangle screens really just comes down to how you design what you see on the screen. With a round screen, you wouldn’t design everything to be simple left to right rectangular elements. I know Apple addressed this early on by saying they wanted to make sure consumers felt comfortable shifting between Watch and iPhone, but I think most people wouldn’t be challenged by a shift to a different screen shape with a Watch.

I’m 51. Work in a hospital. Worked the last 2 years harder than ever. 6 days a week. Never had to participate in a zoom meeting. I answer the phone. That’s enough. I know what they look like dot need to see them unless it’s in person.
I could never handle doing zoom calls.

I opened ft when it came out once and a few rare time when My dad will ft me and I won’t turn on video.

im not a outgoing person. Tend to keep to myself. Prefer my cats to other people.
Just for clarification sake, I was just joking with you. 😄 On another note, thanks for all you do in the medical field. The last two years has been difficult to say the least. My dad delayed retirement and has been traveling to surge hospitals. He does anesthesia. It seems like he‘s aged a decade the last 18 months. Take care.

Since I sold my Series 6 I have to buy it. Oh well better to have the latest and greatest I suppose. 🤷‍♂️

What’s wrong with an incremental upgrade? It seems a majority of people who own Apple watches are keeping them for quite a long time. As with any device, if you’re coming from something that’s 3 or 4 years old, this probably feels like a big upgrade. For enthusiasts who buy a new one every year, this is small. But enthusiasts aren’t the target audience. Also, this kind of tech is becoming commodified. Just look at the iPhone. Most consumers can be happy with an iPhone 11 purchased this year with little reason to by the 13. The watches are getting to the same place, at this point.
Nothing wrong with incremental upgrading if one can afford it.

I can make more use of the watch and its benefits than the phone, which cost just as much.

Good, but meh. Even when compared to my Series 4. The biggest difference is the always on display, and I just really don't care that much about that.

I'd like to see some new health sensors relating to blood pressure and diabetes, since those are two things that a lot of people get as they get older, a few people in my family have issues with, and I'm starting to get to the point where I need to be more concerned about that stuff. I also hope they offer that rumored third model with a larger display. Maybe I wouldn't actually like how it looks on my wrist, but I'd like to try out something like that. Not sure if it needs to go all the way to 49mm, though. Perhaps they could retune the lineup: 41mm, 44mm (slightly smaller casing than current model), and 47mm. I think that would give a good range without having the top model be massive.

I’ve got the 5 and turned the always-on off, just for the added battery life not having it on provides. I think I used it for maybe the first few months, then when I was barely getting through the day and my wife wasn’t even making it through the day, I turned both Watch’s AOD’s off - and magically we both easily can get through a day. I can typically get about 30 hours of use out of it.

My wife and I both use our Watches for tracking our heart health, and I’ve been using it overnight, more so for the heart rate monitoring than for sleep tracking. The Watch actually provided me with a way to track my health as I got back into a daily workout routine. I’m in my mid-50’s, so I wanted to be sure I was being safe initially, and now after a bit more than a year of consistent daily cardio work, it’s great to be able to see the improvements I’ve made as metrics I can track over time.

It would be great if they can figure out the blood pressure and diabetes monitoring tech, although I’m less concerned about either given my significantly improved health. We now just need to get my wife’s mom to be ok with wearing one, as she’s already got several heart related issues and has fallen twice in the past 3 years, both times requiring an ambulance, so getting notifications of events she may be dealing with is critical. But she’s a typical stubborn 80-something year old who doesn’t like change.

What sort of use do you do out of interest? I’ve got a 6 and have always on display, I typically do at least a hour walking work out a day , then usually another work out later on but inside so not using GPS but I find I end the day at around 50% although worry this may drop off quickly.

Last night for the first time actually I wore it for sleep tracking - had around 30% when I woke up I put on charge for a hour and it’s been ok, think I’ll need to get use to a new schedule of when to charge when my S7 arrives although the fast charging will help.

1mm will make a big difference with screen size and viewable info. Anyone pre-order from Best Buy? I am still trying to figure out if they will deliver by 10/15 or ship it by then?

To all of the people complaining about incremental updates, I have to ask.. “where have you been for the last 10 years (or longer)“. It’s always incremental updates, even back in the days of Steve jobs before the iPhone.

People are not going to run out and upgrade their Apple Watch every year, so expecting significantly new features every year is a fool’s errand. This is a nice offering for people looking to get their first Apple Watch (which is about 80-90% of the iPhone user base) and assuming Apple can work out their supply kinks, we should see another year of solid sales.

I'd be perfectly happy if all they do for Series 8 is up the battery life. I'd love to get a couple days of full use vs. one day or 1.5/2 if I barely use it.

Makes you wonder why Apple even does yearly releases then. Go to 18 or 24 month cycles, save $ on manufacturing, or something.

Another person who thinks working from home means slacking off and watching TV all day. Amazes me people think that can be done and a person wouldn't be fired.

Where in my OP did you see me say that?

Go take a reading comprehension course.

My guess is that there’s still a huge enough market to attract that Apple sees the value in keeping to an annual upgrade cycle in lockstep with the iPhone.

So, realistically, what would you consider changes worthy of being called and upgrade?
Multi day battery life. For the life of me I don't understand a full blown app store and so many apps for a device that is very limited in interfacing ability. They should introduce a variant of the watch that is completely for activity and health, and with multi-day battery life. Those are the only ones I use on mine.

Okay, but most companies are working that way now, with the hybrid environment becoming larger.
I have no reason to have one. They use them at the hospital but I don’t ever sit on meeting like that. For that I am grateful.

No worries. I have had limited contact with Covid patients. Lots with Covid tests.

my ex is a icu nurse. She was a hero.

It's like saying the 2021 Ford F-150 is disappointing compared to the 2020 and you shouldn't upgrade. No crap.
As a ford salesman, I could tell you MANY reasons the 2021 blows away the 2020. Starting with the 12 inch screen and adding wireless CarPlay… performance… it’s a huge upgrade honestly. However just like with vehicles, the average user upgrades/trades on a 24/36 month cycle (think of lease terms). That’s what we should be comparing things to.
