I think we need to see the series 7 whilst ignoring the rumours of what it maybe could have been.

My series 4 had an ECG. Not sure how often anyone uses that normally but for me it was when it first launched then never again. I would see the same usage with any other health feature.

Ive sold my S4 in anticipation of the S7 and overall I’m still happy I did. The new screen is an improvement and I’ll get the always on feature that came with the S5.

I’m disappointed the processor isn’t a further step up (from S6) but they did the same in the past as the S4 and S5 used the same CPU.

Oh and I’m not sure I like the blue tint that the replacement for the space Grey has!

Did they take an S6 SIP and use that new packaging technique? The one where they use a new double-sided chip packaging process to further shrink the size of the die?

I’m disappointed in both the lackluster update to the Watch, mainly because I love the flat edge and flat screen design, as well as the fact that they can’t even provide timeline of when they’ll be available. I would have updated from my S5, but instead will keep it for another year. I was in the market to get one of the new Watches for my mother-in-law, for her health and safety, but with delays, I’m going to just pick up one of the S6’s for her. Even she was hoping the new 7’s would offer some additional benefits, although she’s quite tech hesitant, so it’s not going to matter for her use case.

Apple has yet to really clarify what the “crystal glass” is that they seemed to heavily emphasize in the keynote. If it’s even remotely close to the sapphire displays that comes on the stainless/titanium models, this alone is a pretty substantial upgrade over Ion-X and would consider it a win. I am aware that the AR feature on the Apple website specifically says it’s Ion-x, but am hopeful this will change when they become available to ship and the specifications get released by Apple.

I’ll be ordering the new S7 regardless, as I accidentally dropped my stainless series 3 and the screen detached from the rest of the watch at the beginning of the summer. Whether or not I go stainless again just depends on the type of glass used across models.

I was maybe a bit hopeful of some additional new features, but given supply constraints across all industries I’m happy with the new features I’ll be getting as an older watch owner.

Edit: comments below show internal documents from Apple indicate no improvement to type of glass used in their displays.

My S5 is still going strong. The size increase would be nice and I don’t mind the weight increase personally but I think I can go another year. In fact I think this will be a relatively cheap year as the only thing I’m considering is a redesigned 14” MBP if and when it’s out.

But series 6 was a minor update too.
Ya, but I don't feel like waiting another year. Series 6 will net me an always on screen, slightly faster processor and the oxygen sensor. Along with a longer battery than my Series 4 (which cosmetically has seen better days).

People are already putting their Series 6 on eBay so I'll pick one up at a discount and upgrade to the Series 8 next year (assuming we actually get a redesign or additional health sensors).

Does anyone know how thick the Apple Watch 7 is? The 6 is 10.4mm and just fine. I had issues hitting the Apple watch 3 on things more than any other watch possibly due to it being a slightly thicker 11.4mm
Nope, suspicious that Apple doesn't even have a specifications page up for the Series 7. Do they even know what the measurements it will be yet?

Guessing? Might be slightly thicker. The features page says the front crystal is 50% thicker but the new display and/or case might also be thinner 🤷‍♂️

The specs are out.

Will the existing MagSafe Duo Charger support the fast charging on the Series 7 watch?

Nope, it doesn't even max out with an iPhone 12 and Series 6:
To use both the iPhone and Watch charger at the same time, the MagSafe Duo Charger requires at least 15W (5V/3A or 9V/1.67A), but this will result in slower charging.

Extracted the specs here for everyone’s reference.

New screen size looks great. But 1 new digital face which is just a rehash is a complete failure.

I used to upgrade my AW every year since S0. I stopped last year and didn’t buy a S6. TBH, I think I‘ll continue and skip out on this gen. I don’t need larger buttons, since I only use my watch for the watchface. There aren’t any new watchfaces that I would use, thus the upgrade is useless to me…

Apple please just open AW faces up to developers, and free up the one design intern you have left working on them right now.

Can anybody expand on “the most crack resistant front crystal” under durability. Seems like marketing BS to me. Aluminum still uses Ion-x for the display, so I’m confused on how the series 7 display is different in that regard, if at all.

I think the thickness gives it more density and makes it less likely to crack/shatter. I highly expect it’s just as susceptible to scratches though. They changed how the screen attaches and also made the glass thicker is all.
