I feel so off-sync with what's hip in tech what with every device having to grow in size or introducing a new jumbo option.

I'm 6'2", I got the 41mm model without hesitation, finding the smaller the better. Had an iphone mini existed when I had to upgrade, I'd gotten that. Apparently it's really unpopular. Had the smaller macbooks offered great performance when I needed such for work, I'd gotten one of those.

Meh… I actually sprung for the series 7 Stainless Steel Apple Watch back around Christmas and to get the full value of my purchase, I’m not upgrading for the next 4 years… me and my Fiancé came from the Series 4

Also, article maths is wrong. 45 => 50 is not “nearly 5% bigger”, it’s 10% bigger, but I guess all those decimal places to try and measure it in furlongs introduced some errors
The way this article is written is confusing, but I don't think the maths are wrong. Ross Young is referring 1.99 inch as the diagonal length of the display. But 41mm and 45 mm (the sizes used by Apple) are referring to the vertical length of the Watch case. We cannot strictly refer to the vertical length of the watch to calculate the screen area increase.

So, if the diagonal screen size for the S7 45 mm is 1.9 inch for a screen area of 1143 mm2, we can roughly approximate that the screen area for a bigger S8 with 1.99 inch diagonal is 1200 mm2, which is less than 5% more surface over the 45 mm S7

The only thing that would get me to upgrade my SE is this rumoured redesign. Seems like the watch is plateauing in regards to technology. More sensors are appreciated but wouldn’t change the way I use the watch.

I’ve been moving my face closer to my watch. D’oh!

“A 1.99-inch Apple Watch display size compares to 1.691-inches on the 41mm Apple Watch Series 7 and 1.901-inches on the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7.”

Whats with those weird inch sizes? 45mm is 1.77165 inches, not 1.901.
Are they including the bezel and the curved edge as “the display”?
(Why are we suddenly using inches anyway?)
Because 41 mm or 45 mm refer to the height of the watch case, not its diagonal length. I guess Ross Young is using inches because it's the unit most companies use to refer to the diagonal screen size, but Apple is marketing the Watch screen sizes differently than Macs, iPads or iPhones

I hope the initial flat design comes out this year as I skipped last years failed redesign btw…

I’m still on the very 1st generation Apple Watch OS 4.3.2 (15U70) only because it has Sapphire glass and stainless steel and Yes it slowed down like a “iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1.2” or “iPhones 4s on iOS 9.3.5”.

Lucky I’m never updating my iPhone 13 mini on iOS 15.0.

Apple slows down your device.

Bring out an actual black watch instead of the midnight. That black looks great in the header. Also hoping the rugged edition comes to fruition, would love a more durable apple watch.

Oooo...Tempting. We'll see how practical it is and how they incorporate a bigger battery, which will be needed since the Rumors say the processor will be the same as current.

Honestly, that iPhone 12/13 slab design mock-up for the Watch 8 we’ve been predicting for a while now has not grown on me. It just looks like it would be uncomfortable to wear. Not to mention, it wouldn’t age well. Looks like a cheap Chinese knockoff.

My recommendation would be more of the rounded, contour edges of the new MacBook Pro’s and Air. It’s a squared off design yes, but it’s a little softer.
Agreed, continues too look unattractive… holdover hoping that last years rumors had some merit…
I do think that there needs to be some other form factor (eg round) growing market share

Right? Does apple even market the watch sizes in freedom units inside the USA, or do they just use mm like everywhere else?

I’ve got at assume the new size is 50mm, and not the very on-brand 1.99” Apple Watch 🤣

Also, article maths is wrong. 45 => 50 is not “nearly 5% bigger”, it’s 10% bigger, but I guess all those decimal places to try and measure it in furlongs introduced some errors
It’s actually closer to 51 mm, but you’re definitely on the money. You can tell this rumor is fake because a display size jump like that on your wrist would be cartoonish haha

Polished CHAMFER edges would be real nice on the watch. Get a little *bling, bling* on the watch like the 5s.

Yes, I think a chamfered edge would add much needed depth and dimension to the AW. That's why the SS models IMO look the best. The reflections create layers and texture.

as long as the case does not increase I welcome the larger screen.
How about more efforts to make it a little thinner?. Are we in the same status of phones?. No more changes in size?.
How about a Watch Max, Watch regular and Watch Mini?.
By the way: Same CPU for this year, again!!!!! no efforts to make the battery last longer or nothing!.
If I don’t like/need a rugged model, what is the reason to update my S6?.

is it a round AW really off the table ? I wear round sportwatches from Garmin, I'm a female with tiny wrist, and the only way to make a bigger watch, with a bigger battery, and without looking ridicolous on normal human wrists is making them ROUND, because the bigger diametres lies horizontal on the arm, and not vertically like in the square body where the watch lies off the edges of the wrist.
You would think Apple knows this by now, also given the majority of their watchefaces being circulaire and not square (because a round watch/watchfaces just LOOKS better, duh).

I don't honestly now why the display needs to be bigger. I'm still on a series 4 and I never wish I had more display space (smaller bezels sure).

Better and/or custom watch faces... now that's a different matter.
That's because you're young, with good eyes...

I don't understand why people get worked up with 'rumors'. Until Apple actually tells you what is to come, these things are POINTLESS!

Unless, that’s the only way they can achieve longer battery life.
Not necessarily. Different battery technology and more efficient electronics can make a big difference. But need to save something for Watch 15 ;)
