My Apple Watch Ultra 1 still has amazing battery life and I don't want to give up the blood oxygen feature that still works on it. No upgrade for me.

42mm would do it although I’m a 44mm now and I’m realizing 41mm or 40mm would be more flattering.

46mm min. would actually destroy sales imo. Most women and all children are no longer customers for the product.

New battery technology is needed for apple Watch, and all "wearables", and phones, and mobile computing, and EVs etc.
Until then, upgrades will be incremental and mostly marketing-based.
For sure!! The poor battery performance is the sole reason I haven’t jumped aboard the Apple Watch train.

Currently using a Withings Scanwatch Nova which suits my use case for now with a battery life measured in weeks, not hours.

The new Garmin Fenix looks impressive but the very high $$$ is off-putting.

3D printed casing (some models only)
More efficient OLED display

Thinner logic board
Hypertension detection
Sleep apnea detection
So, according to macrumors, 45 series 9 vs 46 series 10 :
The series 10 is taller, 46mm vs 45mm. It is also wider, 39.7mm vs 38mm. But has a smaller screen, 1.89’’ vs 1.9’’.
So macrumors expects much bigger bezels on the new watch.

Oh, and it is also thicker, 11.6mm vs 10.7mm.

Comparing "apples" to oranges is an exercise that reveals nothing.

I’m still rocking an original SE. Nothing since then has seemed like a good enough reason to drop over $200+ more dollars on a new one.

Haven’t noticed any battery issues. I only use the fitness, timer, weather and time functions.

I’ll prob wear it till it dies unless Apple can really redefine it.

Wait so the series 9 45mm has a bigger screen than the series 10 46mm?

Super lame if true. We have to wear a bigger watch to get a smaller screen?

It’s kinda the story of Apple Watch that it’s not really worth upgrading (wich is a positive tbh). The only reason I will upgrade from my six is that my bonus points with health ensurance need to be spend.

The watch increments have mostly been tiny since the Series 7 brought the always on display to the table. Pretty poor innovation since then.
My S7 doesn’t feel slow in the slightest so doubt I’d even notice the new CPU’s.
There might be a market for a non fitness version - notifications / payments & much reduced thickness ? Not sure really. Considering going big if the Ultra 3 is decent (or getting a 2 discounted).
I definitely need sapphire though. My s7 standard model screen is scratched up so badly.

No pulse detection on the new pixel watches sounds like a great idea too , & ties into the sos / emergency contact calling. Will Apple deliver this ??

Never make buying decisions based on rumors. This “buying guide” is useless. I won’t know if it’s worth upgrading until I see the released product and reviews. In my personal case, no matter the released product is, my series 4 is ready for retirement.

Sleep apnea detection

Legitimate question: doesn't sleep apnea detection require pulse oximetry? I believe I read it's a primary factor and whether it does or doesn't in the series 10, I wonder how that plays out in light of the Masimo litigation..?

FINALLY new health features.

I stuck with a Series 6 because no new health features were introduced for men in more recent models.

Damn. Small wrist gang … Apple wants their newest watches to look like calculators on our wrist.

Maybe I read it wrong but the article seems to cast doubt on new sensors being in the 10 and that they’ll be delayed for a future model.

how small are the wrists on people complaining about their small wrists and big watches? I have pretty thin bone structure and have zero issues with the largest watches 🤷‍♂️
People love to complain even if they really don't have anything to complain about.

It’s still a device with a battery life that can’t exceed 48 hours between charges without disabling most of its innovative features.

Each persons use case will vary, but it’s simply not there yet in terms of battery lufe for me.
The huge popularity of Watch Ultra proves this more than anything: People getting the $799 model not needing most of its features, or liking the size and looks of it.

But swallowing a big camel just to have a Watch that doesn’t need charging 1-2 times a day with normal usage.

It seems sadly that Apple is too satisfied with Watch sales figures and profit margins. So I don’t expect battery life to go up by much even when an upgrade is introduced.

Asthetics. I don't like the look of large watches on me, regardless of utility.
