This is the killer feature of the Apple Watch... it is sized and styled perfectly.

You don't look like a moron. That's not something any other smart device/watch can say.

This makes me laugh,

One person complaining the Apple Watch doesn't do anything more than your iPhone can...

It's just another diddy little computer that doesn't do anything that the other diddy little computer in your pocket can't do already.

...and another person complaining that it does too much!...

I wanted that same feeling with the Apple Watch, but I didn't get it. In fact, I was discouraged. It felt overwrought with features.

Some people can never be pleased!

What do you think people will look like when they are walking around talking to their wrists?

To be fair, so far, Android Wear is sort of a novelty. Where I can see :apple: Watch being really useful is the HomeKit and :apple: Pay integration. Not having to reach out for my keys to unlock my house door, to unlock/turn on a car, to pay for transportation, or to pay for gas/groceries. Those things alone make the :apple: Watch more than a novelty.

But even then the level of convenience is only slightly better than a phone. The problem is that the phone can do all of that. So is another device that will cost at minimum $350 worth that small bump in convenience? I suppose we'll see. But I don't think the watch really takes off until it really takes hold of its purely unique features. The health sensors are a start.

All of this Apple Watch bashing reminds me of the iPod introduction: “No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame.”

Who the hell was clamoring for wireless when mp3 players were in their infancy?

Good way to showcase the watch, Apple...

One of my problems with the promotional pictures is that they're misleading with the display of the device being on. I get it, they need to show the watch off, but the second picture at the top op this thread is a more realistic version. Most of the time you see the watch in public, it will be just a blank face, unless you happen to be the one wearing it.

That's one of my major pet peeves with purely digital smartwatches. Most of the time, it's gonna be this black slab of glass on your wrist. Pretty ugly, IMO, even with a nice band. I would love an Withings Activite - essentially analog watchface - that had a glass casing that would turn into a display when it did something "smart." I doubt that tech exists yet, but that'd be amazing.

I run a lot with my phone (20-30 a week at wines) for music with wireless headphones. The phone is either on a sorts band around my arm, or clipped to my belt. During long runs I wear my pebble only so I can quickly glance down at my wrist an check my pace, mileage, time. Much easier than wrenching my army up to try and check that or u clipped the phone with my sweaty hands. That is literally the only time I use my pebble.

I wear a watch at work as punctuality is important in my job. Wearing the watch in meetings would be great since I can get subtle notifications on the apple watch versus the loud vibrations on the pebble. Everyone in the meeting hears it when the pebble vibrates an it can be disruptive. Hoping the 'taptic' notifications are not as noticeable.

But it can't. No gps unless you also carry your phone, and if you have your phone, why do you need a watch too?

Lack of integrated gps is the killer for me, and I will consider an Apple watch when they add it.

Well it doesn't as that wouldn't be a smart watch, that would be a phone with a strap.

Dick Tracy disagrees. Without stand-alone capability it's more of a traditional dumb watch.

This LG device has stand-alone capability and not only does it look more professional but also less like a phone with a strap than non-stand-alone aWatch.

I remember the lines for the first IPad and I had a reservation and bypassed the people camped out.

I don't wear a watch because I have to download a 100 page PDF file just to change to daylight savings time. After the third time, this watch is not intuitive and I just use my phone for time.

But even though I have an iPhone 6, I would still use the watch for ApplePay which I use all of the time, especially after I found many more stores with this app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mobile-pay-finder/id942307294?mt=8

The other thing I like about the watch is the ability to change bands. And if it can track my distance running and walking that is an added advantage as well.

My rank of features.
1. Apple Pay integration
2. Calendar
3. Automatic Time Setting
4. Fitness Tracking
5. Interchangeable Bands.
So much more there.
Navigation.( through taptic comunication )
Taptec ( heptic comunication)
Messages at a glance.
Making calls..
.....etc

The Apple Watch will get you attention from the opposite sex in a way that your iPhone won't. Isn't that a good enough reason?

Uniformed fud !

Do you sleep with your watch on?

most people I presume who wear modern day watches aren't doing so out of practicality, but likely more to do with Fashion and habit.

I still wear an analogue watch. mostly because I think it looks good. it's my way of wearing "jewellery" without actually wearing useless jewellery. it looks good and can at least offer some practicality. You can get away with this easily because watches are pretty much ignorable most of the time. Without the need for constant updates, or charging.

if I had to start charging my watch everyday, I would likely stop wearing one. the first gen of Smartwatches, both Apple and Android are non-started because of it. None ofthese things are able to replicate the "jewellery" and simplicity of maintenance of non-smartwatches.

I'm going to have to have lunch more often in Mountain View after I get my Apple Watch.
You know, to piss off the Googlers who aren't eating on-campus.

Especially when it vibrates!

Remember when Apple sold remotes for the iPods? Then they had a cable and cost what - $50? Now the one for the phone is $350. At least it is wireless and can play Pole Position.

What do you think people will look like when they are walking around talking to their wrists?

When "everyone is doing it," they'll fit right in.

In the 1980s, everyone had a pager or two strapped to their Bat Belts. In the 1990s we got used to seeing people walk around with one of their hands next their ear. In the 2000s we got used to seeing people walking around looking at the little slab in their hands. Then came the bluetooth earpieces that made people either look like Borg drones, or like lunatics talking to invisible friends.

To people who weren't a part of that group, it did look strange. One fellow told me that watching someone using a smart phone was like watching them pet a hamster. Obviously, that kind of reaction is why smart phones never really took off, because no one wants old-timers to think they look strange.

I hope that top pic is in the USA, just so I can know that there is someone else here that much prefers 24 hr clock besides me...

I didn't want one... but now I do

I was skeptical of all this, then I was given a Pebble for Christmas - Even since I'm addicted. Getting the notifications on your wrist is actually really awesome and I understand how Cook and others have said it's become essential.

The Pebble is SUPER simple and bland compared to the :apple: Watch and I'm already understanding how that addiction will grow.

Give it a chance - or listen to those who wear one for a while. you'll see...

Are you sure those aren't just a $20 Casio watch from 20 years ago? They sure look like it.

Hideous! No style and zero appeal.

Post of the day.

I remember not so many years ago sitting in a restaurant near a woman who seemed to be having an animated conversation with herself. I was a little worried and thought maybe I should move to another table, because it appeared that she might be psychotic. My first exposure to a bluetooth earpiece. Now it's the new normal.

I still see people who are talking to themselves, no Bluetooth involved. :D

I hope I'll be able to pair it with my Apple Newton.

You will need the PCMCIA III Flash Card adapter. Look on eBay and you might find one. Also, a developer for hire who still programs those in-demand Newton titles...you'll need a driver to work with it, and a proper way to interface Lightning to Newton. Just don't know the demand. I'm saying it sounds impossible, but maybe somebody with enough time on their hands could devise some way to interface the two, there is just not a $$$ market for that solution, I don't think people are using Newtons much these days over iPads.
