According to the report below, based on people who have been using the watch, they're taking their phone out of their pocket far less than they used to.

People that have worn the Watch say that they take their phones out of their pockets far, far less than they used to. A simple tap to reply or glance on the wrist or dictation is a massively different interaction model than pulling out an iPhone, unlocking it and being pulled into its merciless vortex of attention suck.

One user told me that they nearly “stopped” using their phone during the day; they used to have it out and now they don’t, period. That’s insane when you think about how much the blue glow of smartphone screens has dominated our social interactions over the past decade.

no doubt. I don't think it coudl be a suitable solution just yet. maybe whenthings get even smaller and more efficient, we'll see some forms of "alternate charging methods" to help offset the standard battery charging.

two common technologies in use right now by watch makers are Kinetic motion and light based charging.

way too low a power for now, but remember, we're also only in gen1 of the smartwatch era. they're using general purpose CPU's and basically trying to shoehorn technology from your phones into the watch.

as we move forward, I think we'll start to see chips that are designed even more specific for this use (if sales are sufficient to warrant that sort of investment)

Don't take my word for it, but I think we'll see some integrated chip solutions that can provide kinetic power. just a hint ;)

Finally we get charging info. I honestly thought it might be closer to an hour though.

I don't like that it has to be on your wrist and hope that's something they can make optional via a setting. Sometimes I take my watch off and lay it next to my computer face up. I know most likely don't - but it would be nice to still get notifications.

Not needed during charging - but just because it's not on my wrist doesn't mean I don't want to get alerts...

Or you could lay your iPhone next to your computer...

Your current watch doesn't give you iPhone notifications...

So now people will be fiddling with their watches instead of their phones and talking to their wrists. I suppose some will see that as progress.

This was true with my Pebble and now Android Wear as well. I no longer use my phone to look at the time. And with having whatsapp, email and other alerts pop up on my watch, I don't have to look at my phone unless I want to respond. I can response via my wrist - but for long replies it's not optimal.

So i would say a lot of the "glances" to my phone have now been replaced to glancing at my watch instead.

To be honest, this is the most odd product Apple has ever released. I'm kind of curious as to how it's going to work. My CC is warmed up, but really, I'm buying it because it's neat.

It's amazing that Apple is still crazy enough to do something like this.

Dumb design decision.

why can't it send notification when I don't wear it? What if I take it off at work to charge it, so i won't get any alert?

it just doesn't make any sense. how about let the consumer decide when to get notification for once?

An interesting coincidence, human beings don't last all week without a nightly charge either!

If I buy this I'm going to need to work something out. Whatever the reason I keep my phone in my front left pocket and because I am right handed I wear a watch on my left hand. If I want to use both at the same time I'm going to need to make a change. Ha.

Apple continues to tweak Digital Crown on the Apple Watch, giving the button a "weightier, higher-end feel." Pressing and holding down the Digital Crown activates Siri, which the report claims works well and can be used for labeling, directions and commands using a paired iPhone. The goal of the Apple Watch, the report describes, is to return some of your attention away from your smartphone by allowing you to communicate from your wrist on the go.

This is why I think this 'report' is BS! They are NOT tweaking the crown.. no way, it's PHYSICALLY done.. it's in MANUFACTURING.. No way in hell this is STILL being 'tweaked'.. not by a long shot.

man, i really want to get one...but the only a day battery life is concerning. prob going to wait for real world users to report back on how battery actually plays out.

Why is this concerning? It doesn't concern me at all. I have no problem taking it off my wrist while I sleep and charging overnight. Only downside would be any sleep tracking, which I am not too concerned with either because I sleep great. So for me this news is really good. Can't wait for Monday!!

You people who expect a battery that lasts for a week, or even 3-4 days are dreaming.

Can you not have your phone sitting on your desk when you're at work? Notifications on the watch are about when it's inconvenient to get your phone out. I'd assume if you're at work and have somewhere to charge your watch you could have your phone out and accessible.

Since I predicted failure of iPhone and iPad... I predict the watch will be a big success (since my gut says failure). Apple always seems to pull a rabbit out of its hat (except for Newton and Lisa).

It's part of their security design:

"Only Delivers Notifications While on the Wrist"

Probably meaning to say, "Delivers Notifications Only While on the Wrist."

The first statement meaning something rather different.

It is starting to get annoying, if you can not live with one day of battery life, just don't buy it, but stop complaining about a product that is not even released yet....
