To be fair, there are no waterproof smartwatches. I'm assuming the watch is IP67 water resistant like all the other smartwatches.

I think the watch looks decent. No better or worse than the other offerings on the market right now, 'cept maybe the LG Watch R. I just don't see a use case for me. For others maybe, but definitely not me.

What about the pebble? You can wear it swimming and in the shower.

It's ok, I don't think it's the best looking smart watch on the market, the moto 360 is a better design. Maybe it's an age thing but square watches (even with rounded corners) seem a bit dated.

As a design it's not bad but very little stands out about it to me, I'm sure it'll sell by the boat load and the owners wearing it will look ridiculous.

I saw the picture on the left and it seems to look nice enough for an inexpensive casual watch to wear once in a while. I guess if you are not using it frequently, you could charge it the night before, provided real world battery life is at least 24 hours. But I'm not going to buy an iPhone, and a throwaway watch is unacceptable.

Then I saw the right picture, that is THICK, ugh!

If we're getting offline apple pay - don't suppose anyone knows how it's secured on the apple watch? I can't find that out anywhere and I don't think it's said that the watch has touch ID

You use the second button (the one below the crown) by pushing it twice to use as touch ID. How does it work? I am not sure, that's how I read from the review site.

Well, when you will be wrong. And you will be. You can frame this little comment as expression of how little you know about this market compared to Apple. ;-).

I want to be wrong in this case! Knowing myself and my impulsive ways, I'll probably buy the 18c gold one on release day :p

It looks good to me, and the design is very nice with lots of combo permutation to choose from. The quality is much higher than Moto IMHO.

Switzerland is in trouble my arse.

I like you Jony but this wasn't even close.

So when apple generates more revenue and profits selling watches than 95% of the watchmakers in the works, next year, what will that mean?

One of the biggest shortcomings has to be the screen. The very first digital watches were dark until you pressed a button activating the display and had horrible battery life. Here we are again. They need improved e-ink or something similar to start to get past battery life challenges.

e-ink is terrible, id never wear an e-ink watch.

Do you know that the inexpensive Swatch brand with its massive sales is in the top 10 watchmakers of Switzerland but quite far from #1 in revenue?

I was hoping for a white gold edition. The yellow gold and rose gold look a bit too girly for me. Ugh, I cannot deal with these first world problems anymore!:D

You know white gold is an alloy of gold and nickel right? Wouldn't you rather platinum?

Doubt the watch will ever work with anything outside the iOS/OSX ecosystem. No other Apple products do except for iTunes. At best the Watch will get standalone function and apps with the ability to offload data onto non-Apple devices.

You mean like all android Wear devices... Hell Samsungs only work with a small subset of high end Samsungs! W

A fitness watch you can't swim with!?

Even if it was waterproof, it's only going to work with the phone. This is a useless brickette!

I think thats fine. How many smartphones you can swim with? And Apple Watch is a tiny smartphone with its own microphone.

But design, design..sign... I just don't get it.

I would think the future smartwatches from the Swatch Group should support multiple OSes.

I hope BB10 too, it would make sense at least for something more expensive than Swatch brand at present.

It has to be paired via Bluetooth with the iPhone and pre-authorized. As soon as the watch gets out of range of the iPhone it loses connection and you can't pay anymore.

Wrong, The watch uses a passcode, once the connection between the watch and the skin is lost you must re-enter the passcode

I feel like the $350 model is the Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Sport is going to be the mid-range. In the announcement they specifically said "Apple Watch starting at $349" and all of the materials have them positioned as Apple Watch | Apple Watch Sport | Apple Watch Edition. Plus I'm curious as they said the Apple watch required an iPhone but they could have been referring to the base model or the generic product, there is still a lot that is unknown at this point to condemn or laud it just yet.

it does;t make much sense for the aluminum and glass model to cost more than the stainless steel and sapphire model. The "sport" branding is a clever way to avoid calling it the cheap model.

Gold is a bit bling. Surprised there are no solid gold bands... probably will come but bet they will be pricey.

The sport edition will be the $350 with the gold hitting $1k I bet.

For a Man's premium version I'd prefer a Titanium version over gold. Like the Oakley Time bombs or

I think the Digital Crown (what you called the dial) is a brilliant interface because it's natural and easy to use. From what I saw in the breakaway shots, it is a self-contained control, probably with a magnetic or optical interface so that it can be sealed off from the rest of the internals. There's a reason they called it "Digital" after all.

It's brilliant because it helps the :apple:Watch retain a more conventional watch design, which will make it more attractive to a larger (and a more lucrative) market that is used to purchasing higher-end watches. Apple's market.

guaranteed it'll be gone in the Apple Watch 2

Ok after looking at that thing, the iWatch doesn't look too bad.

?

When in the pool (or on a beach) and needing my iPhone, I wave my hand (wearing a waterproof Omega) and Claudia brings the silly phone. WTF is this apple watch for?

Other than the brand-fooled populace, I cannot see people suddenly parting with their Patek, Omega, IWC, JLC and other diamond studded timepieces for a wearable computer gadget even if it is made of gold.

One thing I noticed whilst out in the blazing sun today: I can barely see my iPhone display at full brightness when out in the sun, my Pebble remains visible all the time, and especially the display doesn't "switch off".

Functionality wise I'll be sticking with my Pebble until there's a smart watch that has a good day-time display.

I love wearable tech and what these smart watches can do. But Apple's, to me, is just a misfire as Samsung, Motorola or Sony. We're going to need wireless charging and a few days-long battery life, a better type of display (e-Ink/LCD combo?)... and it's going to have to look good doing it.

Another curiosity I have over it: if my iPhone is password protected, with messages, emails, photos... do I have to enter a password to view that content on my watch or will any one be able to browse my phone from my watch?
