Switzerland is in trouble my arse.

I like you Jony but this wasn't even close.

Jon didn't even say that. Feel free to prove me wrong with a link to his actual words and not a rumour that someone who knows someone who knows someone claims they heard Jon say it.

As with every Apple product....

Wait for the third revision... if you but the first generation of anything Apple release as new it is basically field testing.

For the case of iPad, the third one was the worst. The second one was the best at its time and the fourth one fixed the problem with the 3rd one. :D But the fifth one (iPad Air) is really what an iPad is supposed to be.

I like the concept of the watch but the two things are making me hold off for now are:

it's not waterproof

It needs the damn iPhone at all times.

These two are deal killers. Until they fix these, I will wait. My Omega thanks Apple for now. :D

It needs the phone partly so it will work for nfc payments. If you separate the watch from the phone it loses pairing and the watch can not be used to make payments.

Also, isn't the whole point of the smart watch concept is to augment and support a mobile phone?

Cheap trills

Being priced at about twice what a better Swatch costs, it is an inexpensive and a disposable trill. With the remaining question: for how many? Goofy at best, slightly juvenile design, it is certainly not the swiss horlogerie issue. Kids, teens market?

From what I recall he said something like

"Switzerland is ******.
I think All first versions of Apple products are overhyped and real innovation comes in with v2. So let's wait and see. :)

I did not jump into the iEcosystem until the 3rd gen iPod.

Then again, I was never a judgemental jerk towards the people that were early adopters that embraced the version 1.0 and 2.0 iPods and iPhones. There always have to be early adopters brave enough to risk being disappointed. Because it is THOSE people who end up giving their feedback and constructive criticisms that will make (future) Apple products better and better.

To me, iWatch has a promising future, as do all smart-wearables like Google Glass. But Version 1.0 is not for everybody. I might be tempted to buy one eventually, maybe the 2nd or 3rd generation. I'm in no rush.

Let's see, all the major Apple media outlets reported the same story.

Have you seen any articles refuting those claims? Thought so.

Also, how do you know he didn't say that? You seem so sure.

I use my terrible iPad 3 every day. Not sure why you say it is the worst. After 2 years it is still fast, and has the features i need.

Apple Watch Tidbits: Charging Retail Box, Water Resistance, Calls, Offline an...

The Pebble is rated to 5ATM but like douglas said, just because it says so doesn't mean it is. Could be better, could be worse depending on what the manufacturers intentions are.

I've heard of people using their Pebbles safely in the pool. Though the thing is that it just has buttons... Buttons with dive quality gaskets in fact. This device needs openings for a speaker and microphone.

Maybe you can take the time to notice that the sites post the same crap as every other site? They just copy articles which makes you think they are all reporting it.

Every Apple media outlet just copies each other, probably from the same source. Any articles to refute the claims? Do you expect Jony Ive to say "No I didn't say that"?

Same with every other kind of news. Thing is, if it wasn't true, there would be a report denying it.

And yes, I did take the time to notice every article said the same damn thing.

Couldn't it charge from wrist movements? Some watches wind like that.

Yeah? And where are you going to put the pendulum that winds self-winding watches? Make the watch a 1/2" deep? There's a lot of processing going on that would quickly burn a battery down. I don't see much downside to charging it overnight. However, to make this idea work, I think it needs a battery life of 24 hours between charges.

Just because a rumour does not have counter rumours, does not make the original rumour correct.

Sport edition is probably 349 model

I'm guessing the Sport Edition model is the $349 model based on that it seems to be the one without a sapphire crystal face and uses ion glass (which I believe is what the new iPhones use as well).

I'm having trouble seeing this take off. But it always seems like the surest sign of success of an Apple product is to bet against it. Still, I'm betting against it.

Not at all. The limitations of the form factor of a watch, combined with the technology currently available make the Apple Watch–at least for now–nothing more than an interesting curiosity. FWIW, Apple would have been better to come up with an Ive-designed activity monitor, combining the best features of Withings, FitBit, Fuelband, MIO in a simple, beautiful package:

1. Sleep monitoring.
2. Meaningful, accurate activity tracking.
3. Smart, vibrating alerts.
4. Decent battery life.
5. High-end materials.
6. Tight IOS integration.
7. Bluetooth 4.0 syncing.
8. Heart-rate monitor.
9. GPS.

All of the above are currently available in other devices, but not together. That was Apple's for the taking, and that's why I am disappointed in Apple Watch I guess.

1. Sleep monitoring. Pretty sure some ppl will create an app for this.
2. Meaningful, accurate activity tracking. The Activity app on Apple Watch provides a simple and powerful graphic of your daily activity, with three rings telling you everything you need to know. The Move ring shows how many calories you’ve burned. The Exercise ring shows how many minutes of brisk activity you’ve done. And the Stand ring shows how often you’ve stood up to take a break from sitting. The goal? Sit less, move more and get some exercise by completing each ring every day.
3. Smart, vibrating alerts. It’s called the Taptic Engine — a linear actuator inside Apple Watch that produces haptic feedback. In less technical terms, it taps you on the wrist.
4. Decent battery life. Apple has 6 months to come out with 1 week battery life.
5. High-end materials. Sapphire? Gold? Can't be more high-end than that, also some jewellery companies will sell diamond band if that is what you want. For a price.
6. Tight IOS integration. It's literally an extension of iPhone with the same iOS.
7. Bluetooth 4.0 syncing. The watch has WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0
8. Heart-rate monitor. On the back of the case, a ceramic cover with sapphire lenses protects a specially designed sensor that uses infrared and visible-light LEDs and photodiodes to detect your heart rate.
9. GPS. Apple Watch uses the GPS and Wi-Fi in your iPhone to help measure the distance you travel during activities that can’t be measured in steps, such as cycling. Perhaps the only thing it isn't built-in although you still can use iPhone GPS via bluetooth connection.

You've never seen news articles refute previous reports? You're joking right?

I love how everyone is all but hurt about this. Go into the "Jony said the Swiss should be worried" thread.

I predict that they would miniaturize the entire NFC and bluetooth chip/circuitry necessary and embed it completely inside the Watch to make it stand-alone so it will not be dependent on an iPhone or any other device. That might not happen until iWatch 2 or iWatch 3, tho.

Remember the early iPods? They were NOT stand-along devices without also owning a Mac/PC with iTunes installed. But in modern times, my iPod Touch 5th gen can act as a stand alone product. I activated it without requiring a Mac. I download and purchase apps and music without requiring any other device. And I certainly can store and backup all my data to iCloud via WiFi, rather than being forced to synch or store backups on my iMac.

It's just a matter of time until Apple updates the Apple Watch to become a stand-alone mobile computer. Maybe generation 2 or 3.

iPhone 6+ will be my next iPhone. Apple finally made good on my request for a 5.5" iPhone since they released the iPhone 4. I will be coming back from android. I said it before and I will say it again, the iWatch (I refuse to call it the :apple:Watch cause using a symbol is just stupid) would fly off the shelves at $199 especially being a first round device. Yes it does a lot of cool things, some of which I think are a bit of a stretch on that size screen, but $350 is just as bad as $400. The design is not as pleasing as I would of expected from apple, reminds me of the first iPhone. Thick, Chunky, Not waterproof to swim or shower, Expecting the battery life to be not so good which means even if it lasts 24 hours, no sleep calculating which i was looking forward to. Unless some things are clarified or changed and I actually can touch one and see it in person, I'll be waiting at least for the 2nd Gen which sucks cause I was really looking forward to a new cool multifunction watch.

We're talking about swimming, not diving.

99% of swimmers on earth have never come close to 33 feet below the water.

The static pressure of being under water 10M is less than what is experienced when in motion, especially powering your arms through water while swimming, even at the surface.
