Apple Watch Ultra is here! First impressions and photos thread

The more and more I look at my old 45mm bands the more I feel they look too thin. They absolutely fit the mount but then taper too much for the wider case on the Ultra. I’m sure it’s just ME noticing it but now that I’ve seen it I’m having trouble unseeing it. The 3 types of Ultra band are all about 1-2 mm wider. It kinda sucks because these bands offered should really be in the class of $49 bands Apple sells but because they are for the $799 Ultra and because each has some small piece of titanium to match the Watch they charge $99 which is absurd for nylon/velcro/silicone bands.

This is currently my main issue. I’ve always loved the sport bands, and the proportions are off with the Ultra just enough to annoy me.

Does anyone know what this feature does? What does it do?

What’s a Taptic Time? The description is there but it’s still not making any sense 😞

So I'm just noticing that I'm not getting any message notifications on the Ultra, even though the notification is showing up in my iPhone.

I've tried "mirror my iPhone" and "custom" settings and they both don't work. Restated both iPhone and Apple Watch and still the same.

It seems to only impact 2FA codes sent to me from banks and other websites for verification purposes.

Never had a problem with the S7 before....
Shouldn’t be having those issues. At this point, I would just re-pair the whole Apple Watch as new. That’s what I did and didn’t have any buggy issues.

It tells you time by haptic feedback. It would probably be easy to get used to if you used it enough. So if it’s 11:05 it will long tap for 10 hours and short tap after for the extra hour making it 11:00. Then 5 short taps to let you know 5 minutes after giving you 11:05.

👊😋👍

It will tap out the time for you without you having to look at the watch.

Thank you for the explanation. This just gave me too much anxiety. Maybe I should just leave it off. Me v/s Time…

I think it means ....

Hours come first, Minutes come next.
Long tap is 10
Short tap is 1

So if now it's 8:43pm
You'll get 8 short taps. Representing hours.
Then 4 long taps, and 3 short taps. Representing minutes.

If it's 11:12
You'll get 1 long tap, and 2 short taps. Representing hours.
Then 1 long tap, and 2 short taps. Representing minutes.

The only time you'll get 2 consecutive long taps is if it's 10:10 or maybe your on 24hr clock.

So it sounds like your Apple Watch will be vibrating on your wrist keeping you informed without you having to look for the time. Still don’t understand why would Apple include this feature.

That sounds logical but very confusing imho

Really wanting one of these trail bands, hope they come in stock in the next month for in store pickup

I had a hell of a time activating cellular. I unpaired and re-paired the watch, deleted my cellular account/number and got a new one, and it finally worked. Not sure if anyone else has had cellular activation issues. Could also be user error just like my Alpine strap. 🤦‍♂️ Let me know when you get the messages sorted out.

I had a hard time activating cellular (AT&T) too. I just kept going back n forth and kept activating it and it finally went through. It seems like it takes a 2-7 tries before Apple Watch cellular pushes through.

Me too, I just cannot justify $100 for the Ultra loops when Apple is charging that for essentially the titanium pieces…but the black Trail loop is tempting, as are the ocean loops.

To each their own, but I personally think the Sport Band proportions are good fit on the Ultra.

Looks good in that photo! It’s the part where the sport band is the thinnest that I feel is out of proportion. I would love a sport band that’s the same width as the Ultra bands.

Have you tried it in the water yet? Read on the return thread water is hard to get out making the speakers mute.

My wrist is 178 mm and ordered a large alpine loop. Apple says a large band fits 165 mm to 210 mm… I’m starting to wonder if I should have gone with a medium now.
I went with Medium on my 170mm+ wrist, and while it is a perfect fit technically, I would have gone for large had I realized the normal fit leaves the exposed titanium hook on the bottom of your wrist. That can scratch a MacBook up quick.

Sizing up, as many point out, would make the hook sit further to the sides of the wrist so it won’t drag on laptops. I’d try the large and enjoy.

Same…for both AWU’s I’ve activated since the 23rd. Lots of back and forth in the app then suddenly it works.
