Looks much better than the way the braided loops fit on the 44/45mm’s!
But isn't that then an issue with the band manufacturing issue itself and not that the part connecting to watch rails being different in design?

Hmm.

Might be some bad news for my beloved solo loop.

For me, the crown hits my arm? and often the crown does not spin easily. which is annoying.

Just switch back to Alpine band its much more fluid and further from my arm.

?????

First workout with my ultra. NOT impressed with the heart rate detection during training. It took the watch 10 minutes to get a reading. Is someone having similar issues? Watch was worn tight, all sensors were clean and I have no tattoos. I hope this is a software bug that will be fixed…

No. 44/45mm straps fit also.
I looked at them all in store yesterday when I bought the ocean band and I prefer the green alpine loop over the orange.
I purchased the green alpine, sight unseen (at least in person), and it will be here Tuesday. Could you tell me if it’s close to a military type olive green in color as that’s what I’m hoping for 🤞.

I ordered with the orange. But decided I much preferred the green so managed to get to the store before it closed yesterday. Think the green is a more muted affair. Easier to wear.

As an aside, I think the bands are pretty easy to use. I got smalls, and the only issues is getting it over my knuckles. But easy once done.
Looks great on you. How big is your wrist? What size band did you get?

From experience over the years, cellular only will drain your battery quickly
If you activate cellular service on the watch, does the cellular connection turn off and default to WiFi or Bluetooth when near the phone? I’d like to activate cellular so I can use my watch more when I’m away from my phone, but due to the excessive battery drain when using cellular, am wondering/hoping the watch will revert to WiFi or Bluetooth and turn off cellular when I’m near my phone. Can anyone let me know?

Ugh. This looks like the same software bug that’s been around forever. I have this same issue on my Series 4 with indoor walks on the treadmill almost every time and occasionally on outdoor walks. I’ve seen other people complain about this issue as well over the past few years. I was really hoping watchOS 9 and new hardware would have finally fixed this. Darn.

All the text looks like gibberish too, the software must be broken

I’m no good with colour names but my Mrs said it looked “khaki green”. 😅

We need to put this in Apples lap so they can figure this out. completely unacceptable.

Coming from a Titanium series 7 45mm -

I love this watch. It’s the Apple Watch I’ve always wanted. I like the big case. I’ve always loved G-Shock style watches but they don’t do anything. Add the green alpine and I have the best of both worlds. Super happy.

Done workouts yesterday and today and no such issues.

Thanks. The watch does all the work.

I have fairly narrow wrists (size 5 for the braided and solo loops). I went for a small in the alpine loops and there’s plenty of scope to tighten (I’m fastening about halfway along).

You have to get pretty far out of range of your phone AND Wi-Fi before it even tries to connect. In my experience you have nothing to worry about. I have to pretty much get a quarter mile away from home before it loses the Wi-Fi and picks up LTE.

It’s not exactly that vibe, but Alpine is the perfect description of the color imo.

It’s a darker green (maybe even a bit olive-ish) in most low-to-medium lighting, but really becomes a brighter green, with the slightest tinge of blue, in bright sun light.

No issues here. 10mi run this morning and a few other workouts since receiving my AWU. Did you install the update? What workout were you doing? Which band did you wear?

I wore the Alpine Loop and the fit was nice and snug. As for the training, I did an outdoor run. Usually my heart rate goes up pretty fast and my old Apple Watches had problems detecting it from the beginning, too. But it definitely was never this bad.

Your heart rate was relatively high from the start (123). I usually start at 62 and then it goes up to 150-160 pretty quick. So there’s a bigger jump right away that might “confuse” the sensor/algorithm.

Maybe I should just warm up better :)

I purchased an Ultra with the white ocean band. I have an orange alpine on order. All of the bands are really comfortable, but for sure overpriced. Nothing new there….

The ocean band is one of the most comfortable bands I’ve had for an Apple Watch. It’s better than the sport band but yes a little more bulky. It’s a very soft, pliable material that feel good on the skin and my wrist doesn’t sweat at all with it unlike the sport bands sometimes. I suspect that the cheap copies won’t have the soft subtle feel of the oem apple band but we’ll soon see.

The Alpine bands are way more comfortable than I expected. They have a tiny amount of stretch so they don’t wear as stiff as they appear. I don’t find the clasp difficult at all it’s just different. I just tried them on at the store, so I don’t have any long term experience. They certainly weigh nothing. The trail isn’t any different really than other similar nylon trail loops other than a nicer Ti attachment. (I think) I have a cheap Amazon alpine in order to compare to.

Ordering was a pain. I was supposed to receive the watch on launch day direct from apple. Then they moved it to mid October. I checked Best Buy who said they’d deliver by 23rd, so I canceled the apple order and purchased through Best Buy. Then Best Buy day of deliver moved it to October……. I just went to the local Apple Store and bought one. I think that’s ridiculous from a shipping standpoint. I’ll have to take the Best Buy one back when I receive it.

Coming from a 45mm Ti 7 I love the Ultra.

1) It’s less bulky than I expected.
2) It’s not heavy feeling like I feared.
3) it doesn’t wear heavy or shift around with the ocean band.
4) I love the design, it looks more special and interesting.
5) I don’t mind the orange button. I do appreciate the people who have modded by taking off the orange and giving it a brushed finish. The finish looks fantastic stock but I fear it will show scratches. On my 7 I polished it out a bit to more of a fine brushed. It looks really good without the orange.
6) The screen is technically larger. It has a bigger resolution (not by much ) and is way at brighter. The flat screen reads better, swipes better, and it seems more crisp than the 7.
7) I’m quite surprised they were not priced higher. I paid more for my series 7 titanium. They should just have a Ti regular series 8 and drop the stainless. I see no point to it assuming they could get similar 3 finishes. I think a more raw Ti rainbow ish color would be cool.
8) No noticeable differences on sensor tracking for me. Works the same as the 7.
9) Battery life is insane. It’s at 45% and I haven’t charged it since I got it Friday. I’m also running Clockology. No heavy music or GPS use.
10) The ultra overall I don’t think sits higher or it much thicker top to bottom; however, the regular Apple Watch has a less bulky case so it looks like it sits a little lower. Top of screen to bottom of the sensor bulge is very very similar between both. Since the ultra has a larger case it has the illusion of sitting a bit higher. I’m sure it does technically but it makes it photo much larger than it is in person.

No regrets. I don’t like big bulky watches and it doesn’t bother me at all.

I set up my “Pip Boy” so that it has multiple Fallout faces. Looks perfect on the ultra.
