I don’t have an ultra and I’ll probably stick with my S7 for another year to see what changes apple make for series 9. Anyway, all the discussion on here about the size of the watch on people’s wrists and comparing it to traditional watch aesthetics I think is a completely moot point. The Apple Watch is not a traditional watch and therefore different rules apply. Now apple have a larger watch, I am sure more smart watches of larger size will come out and they will all look normal in years to come. Remember the original Note phone and how ridiculously large it was? Now look at how normal a large phone is. To me, wrist size has nothing to do with whether the ultra looks good on you or not. It’s a computer on your wrist, in some ways the bigger the better. Wear it and rock it!

Here's a comment on the Ultra that I bet few will disagree with.

Next September, Tim Cook and his crew will be doing their very best to induce the maximum amount of early adopter regret. 😂

I guarantee a new black or space gray finish. I'd be surprised if there weren't some really tempting hardware upgrades for the Ultra. They'll be trying to convince people who sat out the first year, and trying to attract as many of the serial upgraders as possible. That's not evil or immoral, it's just being in a business where you sell products. :)

Oh, no doubt. Next year will be the watch finish everyone wanted but Apple wouldn't offer during an early adopter release.

Sorry for off topic a bit - but I’m running my first marathon next year. Do you use any particular settings on your AW to make it last? I have a cellular S5, and would like to keep cellular on, listen to music downloaded to the watch via my Beats Fit Pro. I don’t want to bring my iPhone.
That's great!! Best bit of advice I ever heard about running a marathon: Remember the first half is 20 miles, the second half is 6.2, haha!!

No particular settings, but with the S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, and S7 I would fully charge the AW, then turn it off until right before the race started, literally while standing in the corral. No problem with it lasting the race.

(BTW: For my AirPods, I would run with one in my left ear, and the other in the case. When I got the low battery beep, I'd switch them)

They now have Low Power Mode, which looks really cool.

I LOVE the finish of the Ultra. Looks beautiful.

Was fortunate enough to order one with an immediate pick up this morning and I’m very happy with the watch so far. Upgraded from series 4.

I hope you had 911 cued up on the phone app? 😄. I guess it could be "worse" - people who are coming from a Series 3 or earlier must really be in shock. Enjoy!

Looks awesome. I like the band. I have the orange alpine loop being delivered Thursday. My ultra is being delivered today, with the yellow ocean band. Not a band I would of chosen but when I ordered the Watch Best Buy said it was the only one that was available with delivery before mid October. Now there’s other options available for delivery as soon as tomorrow 😂

1) I agree, they will add a new 2nd option of finish in a darker color.
2) After 3 years of the same main CPU it seems inevitable that the CPU will finally be upgraded to the new 3 nanometer process. While it will be faster, more importantly it will use less battery power. I suspect that will help create battery life improvements for both the regular Apple Watch Series 9 (24 hours?) and Ultra 2 (48-72 hours?).
3) Apple will add worldwide wide topographic maps in 2023 (bet on it!) and the ability to preplan hiking and running routes in advance with turn by turn guidance. I am REALLY hoping this comes in WatchOS 10 to the existing Ultra but they could leave it for just the Ultra 2. Apple has admitted this is something they were working on in background talks with watch reviewers of the current Ultra as they know it is an obvious weak point vs. the competing watches from Garmin, Coros and others at this price point that all have this functionality.
4) I'm hoping but uncertain that Apple will do a large enhancement to cycling metrics in the same way they massively improved running metrics this year. For this watch to be treated seriously by the cycling or triathlon communities it simply must be able to connect to at least BLE version of cadence and power meter sensors on a bike.
5) I'm also hoping, but uncertain, that Apple FINALLY chooses to offer health and training GUIDANCE vs. just supplying metrics that have been recorded. EVERYONE in the fitness space from Garmin to Polar to Whoop to Fitbit to Oura etc. all take the data that is recorded and tries to convert it into actionable information regarding your recovery, fitness, ability to train etc. While I think Apple as a the 500 lb gorilla will never be as specific in their recommendations as competitors for fear of being sued for being wrong, I do think they need to start offering information such as "you appear overtrained based on your last week and months workload and the following heart metrics... take an easy day" etc.

I don't think we will see a new sensor next year, rumors continue to point to blood pressure or blood sugar sensors in development but still years away. Next year will be about new finishes, more efficient CPUs, a continued improvement in battery life, and most importantly a continued focus on WatchOS enhancements for the fitness and adventure community that continues to chop away at the feature set Garmin has that Apple doesn't.

Mine is really old, too. I had it for approx three years and wore it almost everyday. Did you do a lot of swimming? I had the impression that water can damage it over time..
Only ever gets wet when I wash it! It's as if it's been tugged on and it's ripping away from the fixed plastic lug.

Took off my Green Alpine Loop for the first time today and exchanged it for my OG Nike Sport Loop in black. Still the favorite band I own. I think I’ll put this on more often as I wait for my black Trail Loop to arrive in November.
It looks massive, and heavy, haha.
But I am definitely digging the "steampunk" look the more of these I see.
Very nice.

I wonder why athletes would wear a brick on the wrist during a race. The smaller watches give same health metrics. I guess if you fall a lot you can land on wrist to absorb impact.
Have you ever worn a sport watch?

AW Ultra: 49mm x 44 mm x 14.4 mm, 61.3g

Some popular Garmin watches worn by many runners, triathletes, etc.:

Garmin FR955: 46.5mm x 46.5mm x 14.4mm, 53g

Garmin Enduro: 51mm x 51mm x 15.6 mm, 64g

Garmin Fenix 7: 47mm x 47mm x 14.5mm, 56g

Garmin Epix Gen 2: 47mm x 47mm x 14.5mm, 53g

i didn’t experience this Saturday when i did a similar routine.

Today when doing barbell squats though the top of my hand pressed the side button on 3 separate sets making siren / power etc dialog pop up. The button sticks out so its a bit more easy for this to be possible.

With front and back squats your hands are often bent at extreme angles.

I don’t see this being a major issue but something new since I’ve being wearing an apple watch since the 0
