Apple Watch Ultra is here! First impressions and photos thread

100% my issue too.
Was thinking in a same manner to get a large band. Have a medium band and the buckle/G-hook is at 180 degrees from the watch and thus scraping my macbook. Dont think i can exchange it for a large..

If we are talking different style bands, then no, they won't do that. If we are talking the same band but a different size, I don't know. My assumption is that it's the same policy.

Which is ridiculous by the way. Apple stores should have a system where you can exchange the band that came with the watch for something else if you desire without having to do a return of the watch itself.

Sadly the Apple Store in Sydney won’t let me exchange a size S green alpine loop to a size M and said I had to return the whole watch combo.

So now I’m without an ultra and I’ve been checking hourly for stock and it’s sold out everywhere 😡

Coming from a Ti AW5 I was expecting the Ultra to be too big and impractical to use everyday on my 160mm wrist. Like a lots of others, I’ve been converted immediately after trying it on. No regrets choosing it over a series 8.
I almost got rid of my Nomad titanium band before the ultra arrived but glad I didn’t. Loving this combo it’s a pretty decent colour match

The solution for the stores is so easy. Allow customers to exchange the band that came with their watches if desired. Then simply notate the new band in say a notes section that is tied with the Watch's serial number. Having to return the Watch itself is so stupid.

I feel this band suits the ultra better than the old series 5. The chunky lugs looked a bit out of place before. I find it quite easy to put on and take off with one hand, the magnets just snap into place once it’s lined up. Super comfortable too 👍

From what I can tell, the most Apple could do is to exchange the same band for different sizes. Even so, it will be a mismatch to the Watch Ultra overall package labelling as it printed with the band size as well.

Further, exchanging to different band most likely a no-go. Alpine loop comes with printed graphics of snow peaks mountain, while ocean band comes with graphics of oceans waves.

I'm guessing that Apple staff might just want to close off the conversation...

I called a store and they said it really doesn’t matter which Ultra band you change to, in size or color. All of them will mess up the SKU and trigger a messy inventory process, so it’s up to stores if they will help without taking the Watch back.

One Apple Store near me said they believe I’d need to return the Watch like the official policy and experiences here say. But a second store said that while it’s tough and there’s no official way, they can do it and it is just a tricky inventory marking setup. He wasn’t detailed but implied it does require the Watch in some manner being noted as return/exchange for a moment at least, and that he’d help me do it since they do know how at his location.

He said bring the Watch, the band I don’t like, the order info if placed online, and make sure the band I want is in stock or ordered ahead since they are out of most.

But then a hurricane arrived and he said they will be closed until Friday at the earliest so I’ll come back to y’all then lol.

I think it might look good with the black magnetic strap...

If you mean the leather link, yes, I wore one yesterday all day for a work meeting. It did hold the Ultra firmly enough on my wrist. Looks good and fits under a shirt cuff. Look around, I know I’ve seen pics posted.

When I purchased my S7, I asked in store if I could substitute a braided loop band for the stock band it comes with and just pay the difference, like you can order online. They said no, that was not possible and only offered to sell me the watch and the band separate, as both were in stock.

I went to the parking lot and made on online purchase of the watch I wanted with the braided loop band for in store pickup. Went inside an hour later and picked up the watch, which had been opened and the stock band removed, along with the braided solo loop band in a separate package. Same employee.

It’s very convoluted and doesn’t seem like employees have standard instructions at all lol.

I ordered with a white ocean, and just got my orange alpine in the mail today. I love it too. I think they are easy to put on and quite comfortable. I tried them both at the store, liked them both so I got both.

I ordered just now with JB at 1.05pm and it changed from delivers 04/10 to 05/10. There must be a cut off time at 1pm. Any chance I'll get it tomorrow? Hhahahhaha

Same combo as myself 👍 - the hook sits roughly on the bottom of my wrist - and I’m perfectly happy with that and doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

That’s ridiculous! I ordered mine with the medium alpine loop and swapped it out with a large strap I’d ordered at the same time with no problem at all when I picked it up. They just refunded me against the large strap and took the medium one away. In the UK but I don’t see the difference.
