The 10:10 thing is sort of industry standard. It's symmetrical, which people tend to like more. On a lot of watches, it also lets the logo be shown (and almost framed) pretty nicely. I wouldn't fault them for that.

The design, however...

Actually, It is 10:09 that is standard. It's done by many manufacturers because at 10:09 both hands are evenly spaced from the 12 and neither are obscuring a number.

They serve different markets. It's that simple. There is some overlap, but I have seen very few Pebble owners who have committed to buy the Apple Watch (in fact, the anti-Apple Watch fervor on Pebble messageboards is nearly the same as the anti-Pebble fervor on this thread.)

There are some, but by and large, the Apple Watch and the Pebble seem to have completely different targets.

The comparison of the $300 Pebble Time Steel to the $350 Apple Watch Sport is spurious as well. If you're springing for the Time Steel, you care enough about the looks to upgrade from the regular Time. If so, you're probably not going to consider the Watch Sport, either. The Watch Sport most closely compares to the regular Pebble Time at $200. And the Pebble Time Steel most closely compares to the Apple Watch (no-modifier) which starts at $500, but to get a leather or steel band costs at least $200 more.

They both have target markets, and people will buy each - so there's no need to blast each other, really folks.

I had connection issues with mine, too. Pebble was a fun starter smartwatch, to see whether it's a concept that would interest me, but I can't imagine choosing it over the Watch, at this point. I charged my Pebble every night, anyways, so the battery life was lost on me.

I did a search and realized I have the same issue, seems to be related to iOS wanting to shut down the Pebble app, mine re-pairs with the watch quickly though.

I'm not an Apple Watch hater, and can see purchasing a second gen, my Pebble Time Steel should look like hell by then, LOL.

I stand corrected! :D As a kid I was told it was because it looked like the clocks on the walls were smiling. Lol.

Not comparing like-for-like. At the very least compare a Pebble Time with the Sport version of the Apple watch, and a Pebble Time Steel with the SS version of the Apple Watch.

But beyond that, for me it's mainly battery life. 10 Days is massive. And the always-on display. Also I like the simplicity. I don't want or need a hundred apps. Photos on my watch? Why?! I want simple notifications and music control, and maybe a fitness tracker. My favourite Pebble feature? I get in my car, plug my phone in and as I drive off I hit the middle button three times. Music starts playing. Hard to do that on a touchscreen and without looking.

The Smartbands have some interesting applications, too. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of that.

I'm not anti Apple-watch as it does look cool, I may even get one on V2 or V3 of it (when battery life hits 2-3 days minimum), but for now the Time Steel has got my money. There is room for more than one product in the market, and I like what Pebble have done. They pretty much kicked off the entire Smartwatch thing and have done a good job so far.

Completely agree with you. It's 2 days I'm trying to find some REAL excuse to spend so much money for the Apple Watch instad of the Pebble (the only one alternative, for me). And unfortunately I couldn't find them. First, let me say I like watches with plastic or silcone band and I really don't like leather or steel bands, so my choice would have been the Apple Watch Sport.

Speaking of mere money, from Kickstarter the Pebble Time can now be bought for 179$ + 10$ and the Apple Watch Sport 42mm for 399$: a difference of 210$. Unfortunately, I live in Europe and the exchange is very different: the Apple Watch Sport 42mm will cost us 449€ (from Apple Store France site) or, if you prefer, 476$ (77$ more than the US Store) for a total of 287$ more than the Pebble Time. And maybe in Italy the exchange will be even worst.

And this is only the economic aspect. Then there's functionality: and here I am again 100% with NeilHD post. Battery life for me is very important and many of the other stuff seems to me more like an excuse than a real functionality (photos on my watch, why?). I really like the Apple Watch but I don't think that 287$ are worth the functions that I can already find, in a different way, in the Pebble Time. I'm 90% sure that I will buy V2 or V3 of the Apple Watch in the future but, for now, I don't think it's the perfect product for me. Sad about this :(

Pocket Lint also did a very good comparison here:

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/133053-apple-watch-vs-pebble-time-steel-which-one-should-you-choose

;)

I have never owned a smart watch before but very recently bought a black Pebble Steel (don't have interest in the new Pebble Time/Time Steel as don't like the looks of them - FAR to much bezel!!!).

My fave thing is that it looks like a normal watch - it doesn't look like you're wearing some fancy gadget on your wrist (like the Apple watch looks like). Also - the amazing battery life as opposed to Apple's quoted "....18 hours" - which is terrible + add the fact you have to remove the Apple watch to charge it (Pebble charges on your wrist).

Finally - can you REALLY see yourself answering a call, from your Apple Watch, and talking into your wrist, for everyone around you to listen to your conversation?!?! You would look like THE biggest dumbass/plonker/idiot/lookatmeimwearinganapplewatch/prick ever!!!!

The Apple Watch just gives me visions of this:

So, NOT, cool.............. *shakesheadindisbelief*

I don't think the comparisons work out that simply. The regular Pebble Time has a plastic case, and Watch Sport is aluminum. I don't like plastic watches, but I like how the Sport looks. So for me, the choice is between Pebble Steel and Watch Sport, and the price difference is $250, since I would get a leather band for the Watch Sport.

But I agree there is no need to blast each other.

You charge your Pebble on your wrist? I take mine off to charge.

I haven't actually had the need to charge it yet (only had since Monday) but I guess I was saying, that it is possible to charge it whilst its on your wrist (which is probably what I will do anyway - I have a portable charger, which I can just plug into the watch, whilst it stays on my wrist, so I can continue to work at my desk whilst still wearing the watch!)

I charge mine once a week. It charges pretty quickly.

the more I look at the Pebble Time's bezel, the more I'm leaning toward Apple Watch.

That really a fair comparison.
1. Why would you compare it to the bigger Apple watch?
2.You are forgetting the import tax you will have to pay on kickstart as well.
3.That is the preorder price and not the real price of the item.
4.Plasic watch face is very much not equal to the aluminum of the Sport watch.

I will say I have a time steel pre ordered, but I am 99% sure I will be dropping it. Those bezels kill me.. and all for the sake of keeping screen resolution the same! Plus I would like to be able to actually reply to text messages and not just see them, And apple pay.

1. Since the comparison is not a generic one, but a comparison of my future watch, I've compared the 2 watches that are in my wishlist: 42mm Apple Watch Sport (I don't like 38mm) and Pebble Time (only 1 dimension available).

2. Price is final, EU orders departs from Dutec Ltd, Ireland

3. It's the exact money I've spent and, for now, it's the official price you can still find the Pebble on the only official webiste that can sell it.

4. As 1

This whole back and forth between the two is a difficult comparison I will say.

Someone close to me recently told me I could have either one for my birthday which recently passed.

Not sure which to tell them to get me. First off, super cool someone would do that for me...but now decision time...

Pebble Time Steel - 10 days of battery, Always on display, currently no siri or microphone use (outside of gmail) on the iPhone, not as robust.

Apple Watch Sport 42mm- Stellar performance, seamless integration with my iPhone, 18 hours of battery life (which may not be an issue, I don't plan on tracking HR every day, nor do I go running every day)

I currently own a pebble watch. Not wearing it changes how I go about my day I will say. Would I call it a necessity, for me yes, but only because I have gotten used to it, but thats neither here nor there...

Having a tough time deciding what to go for.

Having owned a Pebble, and currently a fitness band with equally long battery life, I think the battery life can be overstated, depending on your habits.

In my case, if I'm wearing a mechanical, I still take it off and set it face up (works best for my watch's timekeeping) on my nightstand every night, and then I plug in my phone. When I'm wearing my Pebble or fitness band, I still plug it in every night and go through a similar routine, so that I don't have to keep track of the days left on the battery. I just top the batter off every night.

Ultimately, my point is that, as long as the Apple Watch gets me through a days use, it really doesn't change or add any hassle in my life to charge it every night. Obviously, the more battery life the better, but at what cost? Well, that cost is features and screen quality.

The Pebble Time is on the left, Apple watch (42mm) in the middle.

Wow. Pebblers: have fun wearing your Bezzle Watch

I have owned a Pebble and I also really don't get the "well I don't have to charge my Pebble every night" argument. Not once did I wear my Pebble while sleeping so I would always charge it on my nightstand every night. As long as the battery lasts a whole day who cares!? Also in my experience the Pebble is plagued by disconnect issues and ultimately hampered by its inability to connect to iOS as the Apple Watch will.

Exactly my thoughts. I bought the Pebble a year ago as an experiment to see if smart watches worked for me. The concept works for me, but my Pebble had connection issues, and I also charged it every night. It was a good experiment, but I can't imagine choosing it over the Apple Watch, money not withstanding.

Same for me. Assuming money isn't a major issue, it's almost a no brainer.

This whole battery thing is #batterygate type nonsense.

The 18 hours they quote is based on specific parameters

"Testing conducted by Apple in March 2015 using preproduction Apple Watch and software paired with an iPhone using preproduction software. All-day battery life is based on 18 hours with the following use: 90 time checks, 90 notifications, 45 minutes of app use, and a 30-minute workout with music playback from Apple Watch via Bluetooth, over the course of 18 hours. Battery life varies by use, configuration, and many other factors; actual results will vary."

I don't check the time that often, I don't receive that many notifications, I don't workout every day, I won't play music from the watch most of the time.

People are paying a lot of attention to the "18 Hours" and not to what that looks like on a typical day. I wake up at 6:30 and go to sleep at 10:30

Agreed. I'll probably burn through the batter the first week, because I'll be futzing around with the thing all day, but then I'll settle in and likely use it relatively sparingly.

I don't HATE the pebble, I just feel that the Pebble and the Apple Watch (and other full featured smart watches) are in different leagues.

---Copy of my post in another thread---
The Pebble has a LOW RES digital Ink display, which saves a TON of power.

Plus it's the lowest powered of the bunch; by a LONG SHOT!
It only has 128KB of ram thats KILOBYTES! thats LESS than a PC XT! Thats less than a TI89 Calculator.
People complain that 1GB is too small for good apps on a Iphone, on the pebble, apps have access to only 24KB! (Again KILOBYTES) That's less than 1/20th DOS Low Memory! (640KB)

It has only a 120 MHZ arm main processor, that's Megahertz, just twice the hertz of a 486DX!

It has a WHOPPING 8MB (yes MEGABYTE) of total storage, and as far as I can tell only 800KB is available for user storage, which is LESS than a 3.5" FLOPPY DISK!
