The 10 day battery of the Pebble Steel is just fantastic. Also, price.

Do you sleep with your watch on? I don't. As long as the watch lasts all day (which it will), multi-day battery life is unnecessary.

I have the Android Wear LG G watch R and I'm very happy with it. It complements my Droid Turbo.

Its unnecessary for you, not for everyone. Your not actually trying to say 1 day is better then 5 are you?

Ive already said it is. 1 day of reliability is better than a month of unreliability.

It's an Apple forum of the faithful. Of course the watch gets the most votes.

Those with unresolved frustrations are easy to spot, they're still stammering on about Android or Samsung or any target they can think of...:)

For many people, I think it is.

5 days of battery life means 5 times as much battery. That will either add weight, or bulk, or both. Or, it means dramatic reduction in functionality to allow the normally 1 day battery to stretch out to 5 days.

If you can achieve 5 times as much battery life without increasing weight, increasing bulk, or reducing functionality, by all means! But until that point, I'd rather have a lighter, slimmer watch with more functionality if all I have to do is touch a charger to it when I take it off at night.

Exactly the reason I sold my Pebble. It just disconnected too much. I ended up just checking my phone for notifications because I couldn't rely on my Pebble anymore. Other than that, it something I used for games in my free time. Not exactly useful. Glad I got some money out of it.

...I may end up doing the same if the random disconnections keep on happening. Good thing is, I only paid £80 for my Pebble Steel off Amazon as I was given a ton of Amazon vouchers for a recent birthday. I'm hoping I will at least be able to get the full £80 back off eBay if I do end up selling mine.

I'm gonna try my Pebble for one more week (gonna set it all up AGAIN (I've already had to do this twice in the space of only ONE week) at the weekend) and if it continues to disconnect, I WILL be sticking it on eBay!! :(

Well I mean if you didn't have to add bulk and what not. Strictly 5 days vs 1 day. Even 3 days would be fine actually.

At the same time I really don't know how long it will last. For all I know my usage may get me 2 days with the apple watch.

Im going to wait for 2nd gen anyway, don't like buying 1st gen of anything.

if your going to say the same thing over and over like a broken record then I will ignore you. If you have nothing relevant to add don't bother.

In fairness, you asked.

All other things being equal, no one would argue that 5 days of battery life is preferable to 1 day. However, when it comes to comparing the Pebble to the Apple Watch, all things are far from equal so you have to determine what compromises you're willing to accept to get to that 5 day mark. And there are a lot of compromises when it comes to using a Pebble with an iPhone.

  • You can dismiss notifications not interact
  • inferior display
  • less sensors

Those are what the pebble lacks compared to apple watch from what I can tell. The e paper display is better for outdoor viewing though.

I wonder how the apple watch will do with its OLED screen in the sun light.

You forgot:

o inferior apps
o a very small dev community rather than apples huge dev community
o a horrible design (imho). Bezel City
o Yet another iteration of 144x168 screen size (seriously how many times are they gonna take peoples money for this?)

I agree on the design of the pebble time. I have the first Pebble Steel and its much better looking.

..totally agree with you there - the original Pebble Steel does indeed look 100 times better than both the new Pebble Time (looks like a plastic toy watch) and also the Pebble Time Steel (FAR too much bezel).

Although all the Pebble watches all have the same exact screen size (the actual screen - not watch face), the thing with the original Pebble Time is the fact that the bezel around the screen, is in proportion to the screen itself, so it looks cool. The bezel on the nee Pebble Time/Time Steel, is ridiculously large so much so, that it makes the screen look tiny - they are NOT in proportion to each other.

This is THE reason why I did not back it on Kickstarter. The main reason I bought my Pebble Steel (one week prior to the Apple Watch announcement) was mainly for the battery life (my Pebble has been going for over a week on just ONE charge!) as opposed to Apple's measly "18 hours" - that is just ridiculous!!! :(

There's no doubt that the Pebble's battery life is unmatched at this point, but IMO it's simply too gimped by iOS to be a worthwhile companion for the iPhone. It's basically just a pager tethered to the iPhone, and the tether is tenuous at best (I had to re-connect my Pebble and iPhone several times over the few days I had the Pebble). If that's satisfactory to you, then the battery is a compromise; for me, I'd rather have a fully-functional smartwatch that I have to charge every night than a Pebble that lasts a week but barely adds any functionality for me.

Well I'll admit I was wrong. Yesterday I did not receive some messages. I thought it was an anomaly, but it happened again today. Yet a message right after went through..

Its sad because I really like the thing, but I will return it and switch to my regular watch for now.

I enjoyed getting notified and it will make it hard not to get apple watch. I really don't want to get the 1st gen.

And another one sees the Truth of Pebble. :)

Trust me, I went through the same thing; seemed very cool at first, but coming to the realization that the Pebble can't be used to its full potential with an iOS device demonstrates the level of compromise involved and that, for me at least, it's not worth it.

My friend with an Android phone can do all sorts of cool stuff with it, and seeing him use my old watch (which I let him keep) made me realize that the Apple Watch is what I was really wanting out of a smartwatch.

The disconnects and having to re-pair them to get them talking again were really annoying, though. This is where I see the connectivity through wifi on the Apple Watch really shining.

I'm sorry but I would have no interest in a watch if it wasn't that Apple was making one. That's the cold hard facts. I'm not interested in pebble or Android. I only care about the Apple Watch. The others are dead to me.

haha...pretty rough. The only reason this attitude makes sense to me is because no one is going to be able to vertically integrate the way that Apple can, but if the Pebble Time could do everything the Apple Watch does (and didn't have that hugely ridiculous ugly bezel) I would strongly consider it for the always-on screen alone.

There really is no comparison between the Pebble and Apple Watch.

Build Quality:

The Pebble Steel watch feels cheap. If you look at the glass at a certain angle you will notice the glue lines where the glass connects to the casing. I bought a Pebble steel and returned it for the plastic one right after I bought it.

Without a doubt this one belongs to Apple.

Battery Life:

One of Pebble's biggest claims is its battery life. They don't mention that you get this battery life in exchange for a crappy eInk display. Digital watch faces look fine but analog watch faces? ugh, the jagged lines are terrible looking. Don't believe me? go browse some.

Functionality:

The Pebble is a big dummy terminal. All you can do is view or dismiss notifications. There is no touch screen, no voice input, nothing.

use case

Wife texts you "I'm going to the store after work I'll see you at home".

Pebble: > read > dismiss > reach for phone > open messages app > type "Ok" and press send.

Apple Watch: > Read > press reply > choose "ok" > done.
